and I know, you can spin this around, and say that proof of Global Warming could fall into the same category of internet BS... but there are more reputable sceintist out there that claim global warming is real, and that we are entering, or have entered the stage of no return.

In an embarrassing blow to the movement to combat global warming, hackers have posted hundreds of e-mails from a world-renowned British institute that show researchers colluding to exaggerate warming and undermine skeptics, says the Boston Herald.

University of East Anglia (UAE) officials confirmed the Climate Research Unit's e-mails were hacked, but were unable to confirm the veracity of posted content, according to British and American news reports. Skeptics of human-caused warming, who note temperatures appear to have stopped climbing, called the news explosive:

* Around 1,000 emails and 3,000 documents were stolen from UEA computers by hackers last week and uploaded on to a Russian server before circulating on Websites run by climate change skeptics.

* Some of the correspondence indicates that the manipulation of data was widespread among global warming researchers.

"This is not a smoking gun, this is a mushroom cloud," climatologist Patrick J. Michaels told the New York Times (NYT).

One of the emails under scrutiny, written by Phil Jones, the center's director, in 1999, reads: "I've just completed Mike's Nature (the science journal) trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (i.e., from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline."

Prof. Jones has insisted that he used the word "trick" to mean a "clever thing to do," rather than to indicate deception. He has denied manipulating data.

The e-mail authors also refer to skeptics as "idiots," fantasize in one case about beating up a skeptic, and discuss ways to prevent skeptics' papers from being published, London's Daily Telegraph reported.

Lord Lawson, who served as chancellor for six years under Margaret Thatcher, has called for an independent inquiry into claims that leading climate change scientists manipulated data to strengthen the case for man-made global warming.

It is quite easy. The scientists in their own words admitted to completely inventing this scam. I dont have to put on a republican hat and try to figure out a way to read it in a way that would suit my party. It's simple. They wrote words. I read them. The words admit that it's a scam. End of story.

The emails are not the smoking gun.

It is the HARRY_READ_ME. That was and remains the problem (right now). They completely bungled the algorithm and dumped the original raw data. They should have hired a ****ing professional programmer and not use a 1970s style database. It's unfortunate this is the issue because it is a programming issue and not accessible to everyone.

I think SuBe means AGW or Anthropogenic Global Warming. Man's impact in potentially warming the globe. It is of course possible to have global warming and climate change without a single human on earth in this sense. But AGW in theory is focused on human and causation.

I find it humorous that since Climategate there has been a flood of global warming scare stories. Even this story said the problem was happening due to erosion...but we bet global warming played a part too, even though there's no proof.

The temperature data is in, the earth is COOLING. Haarp is in Alaska though...so to blame global warming for something when a huge installation built to do exactly what is happening is a few miles down the road is kin of stupid.

I'm not talking about the content of the information, I'm talking about how information is obtained. If someone leaked those e-mails to the media or the authorities, they are protected under the law if those e-mails or documents clearly show wrongdoing of whoever is being investigated. What I said earlier, was if some outside individual or group unlawfully accessed whatever system information is being kept on (regardless of what that information is) then whomever that is should be investigated and or prosecuted. Usually an "internal leak" isn't an all of a sudden thing....usually whoever said whistleblower is has been talking with authorities and has agreed to provide said information in exchange for immunity or something to that effect.

I believe in due process.

No seriously...the information that shows global warming came from these people who admitted to the scam. Its that easy. they were the people who gave the fake data to the UN, and the UN numbers is what other scientists quote.

The evidence that has not been tampered with, not had fake data introduced into is, shows that the earth is cooling, not warming. Heck, back when the world was warming, the entire solar system was! Maybe the sun had something to do with that???

Exactly. Eliminate all evidence that has been worked on by those implicated in the admitted fraud. The people who threw away data, intentionally deleted data from the data streams and created false data...the people who threatened outside scientists who wanted to peer review their data...their work is not allowed.
