Google and Youtube should follow suit seeing as they've openly criticized these bills.

Lets hope they're next. As for Facebook I don't really care.

That would be one website I wouldn't miss if it disappeared over night. :hehe:

Agreed. I could easily do without Facebook, as for more government regulations, etc? :down

they already said that these people had nothing to worry about from the bill. They were going after foreign sites whose only mission was to pirate.

Lamar Smith:"SOPA targets only foreign Web sites that are primarily dedicated to illegal and infringing activity. Domestic Web sites, like blogs, are not covered by this legislation."
"This bill does not make it a felony for a person to post a video on YouTube of their children singing to a copyrighted song. The bill specifically targets websites dedicated to illegal or infringing activity. Sites that host user content—like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter—have nothing to be concerned about under this legislation"

That's very vague wording and the legislation itself is even vaguer. It would be up to the distributor if they want to yank copyrighted material or not when it comes down to it and that part they do make clear. If the company of _____ video game sees that me making a commentary or a walkthrough of their game as infringing activity they can simply yank it.

It sort of stomps all over the fair use laws. What is hilarious is that this bill is so "important" because the lobbyist for Hollywood are pushing very hard for this stinking bill to pass. That's what qualifies as important to these people in times of economic hardship.

This is a disgrace when the job markets are already diminishing and they want to create crap like this that furthers cripples the working man. It's disgusting through and through.

This is actually a conflict within the bill itself.

One part of the bill says it only applies to foreign websites.

The other part of the bill says it includes domestic sites.

Doesn't matter how good the intentions of a bill are, if it's written like ****, it should not be passed.

Perfect example: The owner of one live streaming site I go to got Permission from Rockstar to stream LA Noir the day it was released.

Then, as he started streaming, he was served with a DCMA takedown notice.

From a different department in Rockstar.

While he was streaming the install screen (not any game play).

And the next day, Rockstar figure their **** out, and he was streaming the game. After Rockstar had cost him a day of income.

Current DCMA law is so poorly constructed, and gives companies such broad powers, that they're already abusing it and using them inappropriately. And bills like SOPA want to give them even MORE power.

So the major sites are just Wikipedia, Reddit, and Mozilla? I've heard of this cheezburgers one joining.

ZOMG if Google took themselves offline...the world will end.

Literally. Lots of business rely on them. :funny: Taking off the search page will be quite enough!

I hope Google and Youtube follows suit, because these two websites are so integrated with everybody's daily lives that by taking them offline, it will send a very strong statement to all the clueless voters out there so have no idea what SOPA is and what it will do to the Internet. American voters need to know that it's not about anti-piracy only, but about anti-World Wide Web.

Did anyone read the MPAA getting angry with Wikipedia and Reddit for this?

The MPAA Says Blackout Protests Are an Abuse of Power

The statement comes down from none other than MPAA Chairman and former Senator from Connecticut Chris Dodd:

It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It's a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.

Oh the hypocrisy, it hurts.

I didn't want to read it, cause I'm sure my I.Q would drop to their level if I did.

:) IT HAS BEGUN! MOOOORTAL KOOOM--Oh wait, I am so stupid. Silly billy.

Wiki is dark, the English portion is online, but is only up on the mobile version. Google has a censored logo that when clicked on give you info.

Wikipedia is now officially blacked out until midnight eastern tomorrow, kiddies!

Google also features a blacked-out logo on its main page and search result pages.

IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG! :awesome:

Just food for thought, say this does pass, what's the big deal when you really get down to it? No more internet? I'm not 100% sure that it's a bad thing to be honest. Sure, blah blah freedom of speech blah blah unconstitutional blah blah blah, but what about blah blah outside blah blah face to face interaction blah blah real life?

Internet is the only real thing that's free nowadays.

Want to make your own movie? Sorry, can't distribute it over the internet for free. That would be denying those poor Hollywood distributors money. Better pony up the tens of thousands for that.

Don't even get me started into publishing. :o

Want to get your news from an unbiased source? Newspapers, magazines, TV stations, who all have bigwigs to answer to? Good luck with that! We've come to expect the cell phone videos of first-hand witnesses minutes after a big news story has come down. It's how the Middle East protests got international attention. There's no turning back now.

Googled blacked out their name. Cause, you know, one might forget what website they're at after typing google.com.

Love this series of tweets by Hydrophidian. And it's true.

"...engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy." translates into "give us back our control/stranglehold over creators/distribution."

'This rash of independently successful and successfully independent creators is unacceptable to our anitquitated business model.'

'How are we supposed to continue to extort money from creators and consumers if we can't force ourselves between them?'

'These Internets are allowing everyone to ignore our long-standing rules and cut us out of the process! It's so unfair! How selfish!'

'Let us block sites like the You Tubes, so everyone is forced to go back to doing business -through us-! It's the American thing to do!'

The RIAA doesn't like the fact that it's the middle-man in a world where the middle-man isn't needed anymore.

And like anything that's free, it'll soon cost to use it. They've been selling water for years and that **** falls from the sky.

Movies and publishing are fairly trivial things, and there's no such thing as an unbiased news source.

I'm not saying I want this thing to pass, I'm just saying that it won't take much to adapt to it if it does. It's not the end of the world.

Well, I didn't mean financially free. Someone always has to pay to provide internet to people. And if you have a lot of traffic, you have to pay for server space.

What I means by "free" is "nobody tells you what to do and how you should do it."

Well, I, for one, will be wearing black underwear today.

That's what real life is for. Computers are too structured to allow true freedom anyway, but that's a different debate entirely.

But how will I live without free porn movies?

Gotta love the fact that business interests backing the bill are claiming that Google and Wikipedia are trying to influence legislation.
