Google and Youtube should follow suit seeing as they've openly criticized these bills.

Lets hope they're next. As for Facebook I don't really care.

That's very vague wording and the legislation itself is even vaguer. It would be up to the distributor if they want to yank copyrighted material or not when it comes down to it and that part they do make clear. If the company of _____ video game sees that me making a commentary or a walkthrough of their game as infringing activity they can simply yank it.

It sort of stomps all over the fair use laws. What is hilarious is that this bill is so "important" because the lobbyist for Hollywood are pushing very hard for this stinking bill to pass. That's what qualifies as important to these people in times of economic hardship.

This is a disgrace when the job markets are already diminishing and they want to create crap like this that furthers cripples the working man. It's disgusting through and through.

This is actually a conflict within the bill itself.

One part of the bill says it only applies to foreign websites.

The other part of the bill says it includes domestic sites.


Doesn't matter how good the intentions of a bill are, if it's written like ****, it should not be passed.

Perfect example: The owner of one live streaming site I go to got Permission from Rockstar to stream LA Noir the day it was released.

Then, as he started streaming, he was served with a DCMA takedown notice.

From a different department in Rockstar.

While he was streaming the install screen (not any game play).


And the next day, Rockstar figure their **** out, and he was streaming the game. After Rockstar had cost him a day of income.


Current DCMA law is so poorly constructed, and gives companies such broad powers, that they're already abusing it and using them inappropriately. And bills like SOPA want to give them even MORE power.

ZOMG if Google took themselves offline...the world will end.

Literally. Lots of business rely on them. Taking off the search page will be quite enough!

I hope Google and Youtube follows suit, because these two websites are so integrated with everybody's daily lives that by taking them offline, it will send a very strong statement to all the clueless voters out there so have no idea what SOPA is and what it will do to the Internet. American voters need to know that it's not about anti-piracy only, but about anti-World Wide Web.

The MPAA Says Blackout Protests Are an Abuse of Power

The statement comes down from none other than MPAA Chairman and former Senator from Connecticut Chris Dodd:

It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It's a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.

Want to make your own movie? Sorry, can't distribute it over the internet for free. That would be denying those poor Hollywood distributors money. Better pony up the tens of thousands for that.

Don't even get me started into publishing.

Well, I didn't mean financially free. Someone always has to pay to provide internet to people. And if you have a lot of traffic, you have to pay for server space.
