Getting back onto the topic,

If SOPA and PIPA get passed

I don't see it happening.

UPDATE: Looks like we're not the only ones missing Wikipedia today.

Five key senators have abandoned their support of the Senate's Protect IP Act, The Hill reports. The group in question included: Florida Republican Marco Rubio, a Tea Party favorite; Missouri Republican Roy Blunt, a member of the GOP leadership; and Texas Republican Jon Cornyn, who heads his party's Senate campaign team.

Also executing an about-face: Utah Republican Orrin Hatch and Arkansas Democrat John Boozman, who had been sponsors of the bill.

Ron Paul is a racist loon. Being right for the wrong reasons on a couple of issues doesn't make him any less of a racist loon. And no I am not defending any politician's crappy choices by calling him a loon. Bash away at the Pres and any other person, I don't give a ****.

I'm black and him wanting to chuck the civil rights act is more than enough reason for me to never vote for him. I, like many white people, vote my own interest and it isn't in my interest for a majority white country to ban me from sitting at a lunch counter, getting gas at a gas station and generally being more ****ed over way more than I am now just because Ron Paul doesn't like black people and or stupidly believes that most white people just out of the kindness of their own hearts would have stop the segregation laws. That is a fantasy that silly libertarians tell themselves at night.

You know what would have happened without the Civil Rights bill? In 2012, I still would be banned from most places and most white people wouldn't give a **** because it's not them getting ****ed over. And no I'm not going on a screed about how all white people are racists I'm saying that Humanity doesn't work the way Paul says that it does... if he isn't racist (I come down on thinking that he is).

Paul cares about white Americans. Unless a Paul fan can tell me what a black person is to do if they are driving through a small town and run out of gas but all the gas stations have "no blacks allowed." And all the restaurants. And the buses.

So are they just supposed to set in their car and wait to die?

Ron Paul does not oppose the Civil Rights act, only the part of the law that took away rights from private business owners in regards to who was allowed to their service. He could not support such a law based on his Libertarian principles.

The rest of your post is lolz.

No one is disputing the economy sucks (from being a carry on legacy). But if you are black, I would look at how blacks are doing disproportionately worse than every racial demographic (including latinos) in terms of unemployment and net worth post-2008. This type of **** usually comes from bad policy that exasperate a cut into a giant flesh wound. Good intention does not mean good outcome, kinda like someone who wants to lose weight on a McDonalds diet. Good intention and bad ideas in terms of execution.

That's only if there isn't a massive purge in Congress.

Congress' approval rating was already screwed before this came to light. These bills have just made things a lot worse for them.

Now, if there isn't a big purge, and a lot of the supporters keep their jobs, they don't have to worry about reelection for two years. So they'd have all the incentive to try and push it through again early next year, and hope everyone forgets about it by the 2014 election.

What on earth are you basing this on?

His lying of passing the NDAA Bill. They are telling people to publically stop supporting it now. So that people can slowly forget about the bills. Then bam if he gets re elected they get passed

Thing is Wikipedia, Google and all these other sites have already been put on alert.

Anytime any version of these bills tries to be introduced or sneaked in through different legislation they'll make sure to bring it to the attention of the people.

This is one war these buffoons can't win at any point in time.

You have an interesting point there, I still think the thing is super dead. I'd say more likely if there is a purge it hits everyone, supporters and detractors alike.

But if they do it early next year, there's nothing the people can directly do since they aren't up for election again. We can't threaten their jobs.

Indirectly there's plenty that can be done. The problem is keeping up that momentum for two years.

I doubt that. Considering how much he relies on the internet I don't think the president would go up against them after this level of backlash. He's too much a politician for that move.

Yeah, the purge mostly will come from the debt ceiling fiasco over the summer.

This, though, has definitely rekindled a lot of that rage, and probably added some new names to the list.

I would agree with you. It's also put the techies on high alert. They didn't run their lobbyists right so they had to resort to this stuff, but they won't be caught so unaware again. Between lobbyist pressure and the fact that the internet can literally strike back by striking I don't see this getting past ever again at least not in this form.

Beware the wrath of google.

This entire thing is so surreal and ironic. Comcast (owners of NBC Universal) who are one of the main sponsors/proponents of this bill is being directly contradicted by its own programmers in their internet department which just introduced upgrade blocks in DNS blocking.

Clearly their lawyers/lobbyist aren't communicating with their programmers. It's a complete irony fest.

It's so pathetic what they're doing and none of it makes any sense. Pathetic.

Google needs to get a little evil and hire them some lobbyists.

They will, this has taught them a good lesson. The way this happened will never happen again without their people having their say. On this I'm pretty confident about. Smart move for them all around really.

Open Letter From Musicians,Actors,Artists,etc.
An open letter to Washington from Artists and Creators

We, the undersigned, are musicians, actors, directors, authors, and producers. We make our livelihoods with the artistic works we create. We are also Internet users.

We are writing to express our serious concerns regarding the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

As creative professionals, we experience copyright infringement on a very personal level. Commercial piracy is deeply unfair and pervasive leaks of unreleased films and music regularly interfere with the integrity of our creations. We are grateful for the measures policymakers have enacted to protect our works.

We, along with the rest of society, have benefited immensely from a free and open Internet. It allows us to connect with our fans and reach new audiences. Using social media services like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, we can communicate directly with millions of fans and interact with them in ways that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago.

We fear that the broad new enforcement powers provided under SOPA and PIPA could be easily abused against legitimate services like those upon which we depend. These bills would allow entire websites to be blocked without due process, causing collateral damage to the legitimate users of the same services - artists and creators like us who would be censored as a result.

We are deeply concerned that PIPA and SOPA's impact on piracy will be negligible compared to the potential damage that would be caused to legitimate Internet services. Online piracy is harmful and it needs to be addressed, but not at the expense of censoring creativity, stifling innovation or preventing the creation of new, lawful digital distribution methods.

We urge Congress to exercise extreme caution and ensure that the free and open Internet, upon which so many artists rely to promote and distribute their work, does not become collateral damage in the process.

Respectfully,

Trent Reznor is that guy anything but awesome? Spoiler alert, no nothing else just awesome.

**** yeah!!! I love this ****! The people are actually participating and doing something.

Adam Savage is on that list! Coolest list of people ever, y/y?

I already signed the petition on Google. Hope this works, and I think it will. I just can't see a bill like this getting passed, nor should it.

Why are there only 19 artists on that petition?
It was an open letter, maybe they all collaborated on it. Hard to get a letter written by a lot of people. :oldrazz:

Also, SHH won't say anything about it because they survive on the support of the companies supporting SOPA. :o
