Lamar Smith is one of the worse big government corporatist. Look up HR 313. He is not big government, he is unlimited government. People needs to get stooge out of office.

Do you guys think the government will target more sites in the near future, and the users involved in those sites?

LOL, whatever. This has turned into a stupid pissing contest. Not going to stop buying stuff.

Hmm Time Warner supports SOPA, guess I'm not going to see Dark Knight Rises in theatres.

Artists admit it, you are business people and want to get paid at the end of the day too :p .

Why else are the Kirby's suing Marvel to try and get the character rights of Spider-Man?

Can do!

out of interest..... it Limewire still around?

Maybe, but Megaupload was the biggest fish, and they'll have their hands full with it. They generally don't go after individual users anymore. They used to try that, but such cases usually get thrown out of court, or ended in very bad publicity. Like when the music industry tried to sue a dead grandmother for several million dollars. At most they might go after the top uploaders.

So....I guess Anonymous chickened out of their Operation Global Blackout threat.

He just does not know when to quit. Does Smith needs to be elected to keep his job ? Because if so he needs to be voted out

He's a congressman, so yes.

Lamar Smith is not a senator. He is a congressman from Texas. And seems to have it out for the internet.

Now I mean I agree with all that on Hollywood however keep in mind it's not just their material. It's all sorts of stuff and I mean if we are going to support content creators and the rights to their material when sites like this get popped I mean . . . we can't really cry about it.

I think fair use is basically like what Movie Clips does or what reviewers use, things like that. I think it should also apply to parody. Though I think Movie Clips does license and ask for permission for everything they use.

I think those sites should have people to work for them that make sure people aren't violating copyright law etc.

I know people probably are upset about this, but at the end of the day if they were all legit they wouldn't be shut down.

I'm all about technology and innovation and all that. I don't support the restrictive nature of the SOPA and IP acts. At the same time, I think certain people need to drop the entitled attitude. I do think content providers need to stop being scared of the internet and embrace the technology instead of the old way of doing business.

I don't think though because you buy a PS3 or game console and you can jail break the console you can like hack and copy any game you want.

That's what most of this is all about.

People want to purchase/rent/stream content online when they want.

But the media companies don't want to give up their old business models. So they are overreacting and trying to shut down the foundation of the new business model.

It's all a bunch of time and money wasting ******** because in about ten years or so, they'll have finally accepted the internet and made the transition.

It's going to happen.

Advertisers chase consumer dollars, and big media chases advertising dollars.

Consumers are going online. Advertisers are following consumers. Therefore...

I don't see how people can not see this.

But then maybe they do and it's about control. By stemming this maybe they aren't trying to deny this eventuality but maybe it's a way of stalling things until they can get a better model of how to exploit this in the best way they can.

What the internet is becoming what cars were to horses for content delivery.

I would love to find more ways to have most of my cash go to the authors or artists and cut through the middle men. Something like Steam I dig. Steam and Kindle (and similar services) is where I do more of my purchases now.

But their old business model requires factories, materials, and production lines, distribution. Which equals jobs doesn't it?

I just have to ask:

What about countries where there are no original DVDs or media sold, and where streaming or digital downloads are not allowed on location grounds?

There are countries where there are no Hollywood movies screened in theatres, and only pirated DVDs are sold on the open market.

Some of these people may in fact want to buy original content, and pay for movies, but they have no legitimate way of doing it. For countries which have such facilities, there is no excuse, however, what about the ones which are not in fact costing the studios any money whatsoever?

If Hollywood has not entered a particular market, can we say that it is even losing anything from that market? It's not the fault of piracy in these circumstances, but Hollywood's failure to go global... truly global.

How about this for fail? Here in Canada I can't stream ANY content off of NBC's website, where they have legally put up full episodes of their shows. I WOULD watch their shows, on their site, if they allowed me to. I watch shows on CBC's site, Global, City TV, History Television and Space. The only show's I watched through Megaupload were the shows I couldn't find online through legit means.

Oh I forgot one. FUNimations youtube channel, yeah they uploaded entire series onto youtube officially. Great idea.

I'm not sure how the piracy crusade the FBI is on is gonna work. They are shutting down the filehosting sites in their juristriction and affilate nations that are corroborating but there are many more filehosting sites in places like China and Korea which pirates will simply move their data onto.

Unless they are going to get search engines to block access to the sites I don't know what they can really do.

That's true...and it's unfortunate that jobs will be lost as we go further and further into digital releases. But, it's progress and we can't stop progress simply because it means losing jobs. I know that's harsh...but there would never been progress if we stopped everytime people were effected in a negative way.

A lot of jobs will also be created because the current infrastructure can't support the demand for data consumers are pulling down. A lot of new equipment is going to have to be manufactured, installed, and upgraded.

The companies that support the current distribution system better adapt and start working on the new one, or they'll be going out of business. That's competition. Adapt and innovate, or die. Because they at plenty of companies willing to start up and take your employees and customers.

I agree...which is why it's so sad that some companies are trying their hardest to keep progress back.
