Wouldn't they be able to shut down a forum if there are discussions about a movie or song are too detailed? Protection of the copyright?

Guess we can say goodbye to word of mouth advertising.

Of course, that's what Hollywood wants. They don't like the fact that people can tell their friends about crappy movies, forcing them to actually produce work that takes effort.

I guess they forgot about a little thing called the telephone.

I am sure these *******s will go after phones next. After they have their ways with the Internet

When teenage girls are no longer allowed to talk on the phones or internet about the movies they just watched, I'll almost feel sorry for the **** storm that Hollywood will get. ;)

Almost... :awesome:

Also, what about people who have photographic memories? They can replay a movie in their heads without paying. SOMEBODY HAS TO STOP IT!!!!

Hollywood will be recruiting Professor Xavier and his Cerebus for this very purpose soon. :o

Teenage girls will suddenly become more politically active than most adults in this country. How sad is that.

Actually, we should send a message to the teenage daughters of everyone in Congress. See what happens to these bills then when mom and dad start getting chewed out at home.

Oh ****. If they pull that off, it's a potential game changed.

iTunes pays artists a lot less. Granted it's on iTunes, the most popular music distribution site. So this thing is still going to need to overcome that.

It has already been shut down. Artists get screwed on iTunes, just like they were getting screwed with traditional music stores. The record labels and retailers take 90% of the money. MegaUpload wanted to provide a place for artists to bypass the record labels and middle man retailers by selling music directly to consumers. Record labels are scared to death of this so they shut it down under the premise of "piracy" even though they allowed MegaUpload to do whatever it wanted for years upon years. Awfully convenient that the site gets shut down right after announcing a legal service that would literally crush the music industry. Record labels are on their way out, but they are desperately trying to cling to their power. The irony is Google has enough money to buy out all of the music and movie companies.

Itunes sucks...why do people keep using it?

For the same reason they pay twice as much to buy books from Barnes & Noble instead of getting them from Amazon. People are stupid. Only time I think buying at a brick and mortar is when you're getting a large item like a TV. But if you're getting some books or movies, Amazon is the way to go.

Because its easy. Given the choice between easily downloading something illegally or easily downloading something legally, most people will take the legal route.

So...filling consumer demand reduces piracy?

THAT'S CRAZY TALK!!!OMG11!!!1!

Haha, yep. The music industry was practically saved by iTunes. Not as much money as way back then, but better then nothing.

And now the music companies are ceasing CD production.

Really? And I thought I was sad when VHS was stopped. :csad:

For real? I never thought I'd ever see the day when CD will be ceasing production. Will they continue with DVD or stopping all tangible forms of media altogether?

CD's won't cease production. The music industry just won't sell them anymore.

DVD should stick around for a while. Not everyone has the bandwidth or internet connections to download bluray quality movies. And there's not been a huge surge to replace old DVD players.

Mr. Rogers would have been against SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA

Taken from his 1979 testimony before Congress in favor of VCRs and home recording of tv shows

"Some public stations, as well as commercial stations, program the "Neighborhood" at hours when some children cannot use it ... I have always felt that with the advent of all of this new technology that allows people to tape the "Neighborhood" off-the-air, and I'm speaking for the "Neighborhood" because that's what I produce, that they then become much more active in the programming of their family's television life. Very frankly, I am opposed to people being programmed by others. My whole approach in broadcasting has always been "You are an important person just the way you are. You can make healthy decisions." Maybe I'm going on too long, but I just feel that anything that allows a person to be more active in the control of his or her life, in a healthy way, is important."

Yeah, but it's just as easy on Amazon...and it's cheaper...and the files are not copyprotected.

Well that's just about people's ability to change. Itunes came first and had more songs to start with (they're probably pretty close now). If people want to spend more money than they need to, may as well let them. Either way, both of these shops and other like saved the music industry. It needs to happen for films and games as well, if they don't want pirating to take a large chunk of potential buyers.

You can't copy or burn songs to CD from Itunes? I don't know because I don't use it. That sounds terrible.

Sure you can. That was one of the selling points back in the day. It was one click to import a CD when all the other software made you jump through hoops.
