Animation Disney's 'Moana'

OMG! Can Illumination's Sing get higher Rotten Tomato than Moana? Lately I've been thinking that Sing will likely make more money but now even its reception can be better.

Nah critics love Disney Animation too much for that to happen. How else do you explain something so average like Frozen getting such a great reception.

I do agree that RT of Disney movies can be inflated (not-so-great movies like Dory or Doctor Strange can get great RTs), but Moana's RT isn't locked at 90%. Sing's RT is currently 88% (though it's still a very small sample) so if it can keep this score then Moana can get 85%+ but still be beaten by Sing.

The vast majority would disagree with Frozen being considered average.

It's not just critics that love Frozen, that should be extremely obvious by now. Majority of the hate comes from a vocal group on the net.

Huh. Those two reviews dimmed my hype down a bit. :csad:

I'm thinking "Frozen-bias" will now become a thing for Disney fans. :funny:

Don't worry guys, there are plenty of very encouraging tweets as well....... I'm only posting tweets with level headed thoughts.....

- really appreciate a disney film with a female lead and people of color
- treads unfortunately safe territory. No real surprises

- production quality overall top notch
- wish it took more time setting up it's world.
- overall quality film, but not a game changer

Frozen defied its fairytale template by swerving into matters of sisterhood, Big Hero 6 pulled off a clever trans-Pacific cultural fusion, and this year’s excellent Zootopia was both a snappy, original comedy and a valuable primer in identity politics. Moana never quite reaches these heights. Its cultural setting is fresh; its storytelling, less so. It navigates the reefs but it doesn’t discover a whole new world.

Everybody has their own viewpoint on it apparently. I trust Disney at this point though. Especially considering the guys that worked on this.

To be fair, even if it's like Big Hero 6 type safe, I'll still enjoy it.

I really don't see much buzz for this. I don't think it will do as well as expected.

I usually don't care about Disney animations but I would never underestimate the power of Pixar/WDAS at the Box Office.

The Good Dinosaur underperformed a year ago. I'm expecting Moana to do better than that, but I'm not expecting Frozen or Zootopia numbers either.

They need to feature more of the little pig to drive attendance. That thing is cuter than Anna Kendrick trying to eat an apple pear while wearing Pickachu mittens.
