Moana is doing great but I feel it would have done better in the summer.It feels like a summer flick. As for Sing, well I have learnt not to underestimate Illumination Entertainment anymore.

You're talking about the 3 day weekend as opposed to a 5 day weekend during the Thanksgiving week in the US. Moana has done admirably but but it's BO so far is not that great because expectations were higher due to the inflated previews numbers and the high RT score/awesome reviews. I agree that the true test will be how it manages to do once Rogue One and Sing, both are in theaters.

The movie is doing fine. This was never going to be the next Frozen.

It is doing fine but I thought Moana will be much bigger than what it's going to post for the weekend. I hope for bigger numbers on Sat and Sun.

Frozen was a freak of nature in the sense that it was fairly okay in it's first 3-4 weeks but exploded with outstanding legs later on. Expecting something similar for Moana was always going to naive. Frozen had 'Let it go' and a viral marketing campaign that Moana simply can not measure up against.

What worries me is that the Friday increase is lower than The Good Dinosaur. One day's gross is not indicative of the whole BO performance but it's still very disappointing for me.

Once again, when you have an animated family film with broad appeal, it's a marathon not a sprint. Especially during the holiday season when a lot more people and families are going to the movies, and Moana will probably do well that way.

And again, this is a good movie, and it got great reviews, but it's not exactly Zootopia or Frozen either.

It's got a couple good songs, but just a couple. Frozen had a top to bottom amazing soundtrack with a lot of classic tunes. This soundtrack has only two really good memorable songs. Even "Shiny" isn't that great of a song, and that one has Jemaine Clement. A big part of Frozen's appeal was its sick soundtrack.

Yes, here's my Moana review.

To address your concerns and comparisons to Good Dinosaur.

So I checked Good Dinosaur, and it only made $39 million for the three-day weekend and $56.6 million for the holiday haul. Also, it was against Hunger Games Mockingjay as well, which was in its second weekend.

So if you look at the results for Moana, it did considerably more than Good Dinosaur did last year in the same time period. And more for the holiday haul as well. It also opened No. 1, while Good Dinosaur opened No. 2.

Right now, I see Moana doing probably similar business if not more than Tangled or Wreck-It Ralph. Since it already has $81 million, we can assume it will far surpass the domestic and worldwide takes of Good Dinosaur. The Good Dinosaur finished with $123 million. Moana will snap that easily with its good word of mouth and great reviews.

Honestly, that's just your opinion.

As an adult, I felt this movie was better than Frozen or Zootopia by a large stretch. The songs were all incredible and moving, with Shiny and Maui's song being the two more "fun" ones that are kind of quintessential in a movie like this for levity. But as a whole, I found this film much more effective than any animated film i've seen in the last few years. It was pitch perfect from start to finish. While I can see why it's not going to catch on like Frozen, I think it deserves every bit and more of attention and acclaim. Writing off this movie as anything but phenomenal would be a misstep. Besides that, Moana was an amazing character that deserves to resonate with girls much more than Elsa.

Yes it is my opinion, but I just think Frozen had a stronger soundtrack which helped push the movie further.

Took my family to see Moana and I love it. It's neck to neck with Zootopia as my favorite animated movie of 2016 but I can't decide which one I like more. I need to see it a few more times when it's out on blu ray but I believe it is one of the finest ever released from Disney Animation.

Box office actuals are out. Actuals are slightly higher than the estimates. The film's at about $99 million worldwide now. I think that bodes well for word of mouth and subsequent weekends.

I think it more than likely breaks $200 million domestic at least.

Nothing else is out this weekend but la la land, and even that is limited release. It'll be Numéro Uno again.
