Animation Disney's 'Moana'

Never heard of the lady, but it seems weird to have to change the title for someone who died more 20 years ago. But, I guess she was very famous there if they feel the need to change it.

The official reason behind the change is because apparently in some European countries (such as Spain) "Moana" is a registered trademark.
Again, that's the "official reason", but I'm sure at least here in Italy the decision has indeed been definitely influenced by the whole Moana Pozzi thing. She's literally the first result that comes up on Google if you type in "Moana".

Personally I think it's a very feeble reason and I dislike the change, especially since Moana sounds so much better but hey, what can you do. I guess it's for the good of the many little Italian girls who in a few months will be searching the internet for pictures of their new favorite Disney princess, lol.

The internet is terrible though so the new title being associated with a character who is both animated and female will probably lead to even more porn.

Is this like them changing ninja to hero with the turtles back in the day?

Yeah but that's something you'd have to actively look for to find.
All I have to do now is type "Moana" in my search bar and a good 1/3 of the resulting images are of the actress, and I have SafeSearch activated. Again, that's quite an inconvenient considering that nothing similar happens if I instead search e.g. Rapunzel or Elsa, lol.

Yeah, that will pose a problem when the flick comes out.

"mommy i searched for moana and this lady came up with something inside her..."

"TURN THE TABLET OFF NOW!!!"

Interesting.

But, the kids could end up finding porn of Disney version anyway because... yeah.

DeviantArt's sole existence... Animation porn and "original" Sonic characters. :p

Haha that would be something for a young parent, would catch them completely off guard.

I enjoy animated movies and I keep track of the new ones for my little niece who loves movies and collects princess figures.

This movie seems like it has a lot of promise. The animation is awesome, will be very enjoyable, visually.

The Rock's character is intriguing. For the people saying there was too much of him in the teaser, it makes sense.

He is a legendary demi-god who has accomplished great mythical feats. Disney is establishing this first glimpse to plant the seeds of island mysticism. The otherworldly will play a big part in this environment so to introduce that element makes the most sense by focusing on a main character who has a history within the mythology

I am now wondering what his character arc is. Maybe people have stopped believing, maybe he's intially just using Moana to get him what he needs, etc.

I wonder if people keep saying the name sounds too sexual because they're misreading it? It's pronounced mo-Anne-ah not moan- a. But oh well.

Yeah I don't know what the character arc will be. Maybe there's just one more monster he wants to fight but eventually he learns he doesn't want to fight all the time anymore?

I doubt it has anything to do with how people pronounce it.

He's not fat, he's stocky. And obviously he's agile. If he was like some overeating slob then maybe.

characters are stylized. i think based on the style he is meant to look fat. no story here lets all move on.

In a lot of cultures (including some Polynesian ones) being fat is a sign of wealth and success.

Disney gets in trouble for every type of body issue. There's no pleasing people.

There's too much of an expectation that every character needs to be perfect and when they are people say they're boring

Him being fat never came to my mind.

Ignore the controversy. Shake it off. Keep it moving. It wont mean a thing
