  • No f***ing way does that offend me

Curse words don't offend me but there are times when they are not needed. I rarely swear myself. Only times when I hit my foot to something.

it's easier for a kid to say **** than it is for them to commit mass murder, i think that is their mindset.

I don't have a problem with it, although largely dependant on context - I wouldn't necessarily swear around people I don't know. They're still words, anyways - just considered to be more taboo than others.

I mean, unless you're just being a dick about it, it's not really that huge a deal. I remember some comedian was like british people are the only ones that could roll off a string of expletives and not have it come off as crass due to the accent.

I don't live in America, but from what I can tell swearing (or cussing / cursing) seems to be far more taboo there than here in Britain

it seems like use of the 'F' word doesn't seem to be that much of a problem with most, but does anyone here ever go nuts on the 'C' word?... you know, that one word that most women usually despise hearing... think any episode of the old HBO show, Deadwood, where the 'F' and 'C' words, among so many other colorful terms, flew left and right, every few seconds...

Believe it or not the C-bomb can be used as a term of endearment down here.

I live here in the States, but I DO have a few friends living in the UK, and the 'C' word seems to be used quite a bit more there with casual usage than it is here...

Well, yeah. Everyone knows that American culture is a weird mix of inconsistencies.

Brits and Aussies are cut from the same cloth with regards to this word, it's still considered the most offensive swear word but it makes its way into casual conversation more than it would States side.

They only bother me when being used around children. Other than that, no f***ing problems here.

It's funny, when I go to my AA young people meetings I and a lot of others let the curse words fly but when I go to a meeting with a lot of old timers I find others ways to be descriptive

Curse words don’t offend me. But their gratuitous or excessive usage is a bit of a turnoff. I enjoy when an otherwise articulate person reserves a curse word for just the right moment - for dramatic or comedic effect. The late, great Christopher Hitchens was a master at this. :word:

And IMO, excessive usage of “asterisk words” (curse word substitutes) is likewise problematic. After all, context (or a strategically placed first letter) pretty much tells us what “****” is. (The notion that these symbolic euphemisms maintain a site’s “family friendly” status is, methinks, dubious.)

Curse words don't offend me, but, there are places and times one can excercise their free speech, and times they really shouldn't, like around kids, the boss, or in a professional setting. They can do it, but there could also be repercussions, like being asked to leave a resturaunt or a bus for disorderly conduct.

I wonder... how do the guys feel about their woman, or ANY women, for that matter, when THEY curse up a storm sometimes?... is that a turnoff for you, even moreso than from another guy?... or don't you give a s**t either way?

I could MAYBE understand the family friendly thing if it was only applied to the film sections, but the community section is not family friendly at all. Is a 12 year old kid really going to venture in here and talk about the Charleston shooting? Or look for relationship advice?

I don't give a f*** if ladies curse
