The movie is scheduled to be released at the beginning of the summer in 2010. With that said, do the filmmakers have enough time for a proper pre-production period, filming period, and post-production period in the 21 months or so until the release? I just hope this movie is not rushed. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Pre production, or most of it was handled in the pre production time for IM1, wasn't it?
Designs for War Machine (like the one seen in the credit sequence, and the one on these boards) already done. All that needs to be done is the script by the awesome Justin Theroux finished (even though the script wasn't finished when IM1 started) There's ample time to knock this thing out.
I'm expecting big things - I never much liked the character of Iron Man but now he's my favorite Marvel character!

I think they do. They already started writing it a while ago.

Keep in mind that Spider-man 2 came out only two years after Spider-man, and people see that as the best movie. But they pretty much knew where they wanted to go with Spider-man 2 after Spider-man came out, namely Doc Ock since he was cut out of Spider-man, and they were able to start doing the train sequence really early into production.

Spider-man 3 came out three years after Spider-man 2. Definitely didn't rush it, and well . . . it's not always about length. Fox definitely mishandled X-men 3 for not locking up Singer and everyone asap after X-men 2.

They already have the cast, crew, and what not, and hopefully outside of Don Cheadle, there won't be too many other drastic changes. I think they could use a better music composer IMHO. Wouldn't mind a change in the music.

I mean the Rhodey thing is disappointing more than anything, but it could've been worse. Losing Favreau or Robert Downey Jr. would've been a lot worse.

Can/do they do pre-production (i.e. artwork, pre-vis, etc.) while they are still writing?

Well yeah because a movie's basically constantly being re-written well into principal and post production.

So it's safe to assume that designs and pre-production work has already begun for IRON MAN 2?
(Sorry, I don't mean to be an annoyance).

Well if they are writing it then pre-production has definitely already begun :) .

Haha, you're right! :D Thank you for being so patient with me. I just really, really, really want this movie to be good and I want to make sure that the filmmakers have ample amount of time to complete it, ya know?

I think it has a good amount of time before it's release date.

Especially with Favreau on board who seems to have some passion for the character. I think he will push himself hard to make sure it's done in time and with quality.

I am actually worried more about the timing for an Avengers or Cap Film. This crew worked fast the first time they should be fatser this time since they are all in sync with each other now.

I say yes. They start shooting in January and it comes out almost a year and a half later - if I recall that's about the same amount of time the first one had and a lot of the design work and such has been done.

It does feel like they are cutting it close. I hope the quality isn't hurt by the rushed schedule.

How? They've got two years, that's more than enough time, Spidey 2 and X2 both came out 2 years after the first movie. Dark Knight only came out 3 years later cause Nolan did the Prestige in between. He spent the entire summer of '07 shooting the movie and delivered it on time, Iron Man will start shooting before that. Plus the biggest challenge of special effects is already done, getting the suit working in the digital world
