Another little tidbit for the idiot with the culinary knowledge of a dog, Ketchup is not always made with tomatoes, in fact originally it was made with mushrooms and mushroom ketchup is still available in many shops today, but numerous other varieties including pumpkin ketchup and banana ketchup are also available.

I'm getting this now. In the UK, there's a vast difference between ketchup and tomato sauce. But isn't what is called tomato sauce in the UK is called ketchup in the US?

You're pretty much there, globally, there is a major difference between Ketchup and tomato sauce for the reasons I explained earlier, however some ill informed people call Ketchup tomato sauce and vice versa it's like when people confuse dolphins for fish, it's quite irritating really, I hate it when things get called the wrong name, all forms of general ignorance must be irradicated!

You're an idiot, I'm English (a Hampshirite to be precise) so don't be condescending like that especially when you're wrong, Ketchup is the name of a condiment, Tomato sauce is part of the dish, now just because you call Ketchup Tomato sauce doesn't mean you are correct, in fact almost any fool could tell you the difference, so get you're facts right and don't make yourself look like a ****, you're really letting the side down.

"Tomato sauce" is merely the generic term for all tomato based sauces, i get my "ketchup" from a bottle labeled tomato sauce - i've had stuff from bottles labeled "ketchup" and there really wasn't much difference. and obviously i realise it's a condiment otherwise i wouldn't be putting it on my hot dogs. Furthermore, there are pretty strong arguments to show that both terms are may be equally valid in describing the tomato based sauce in question.

I can show this fairly simply, whereas i'm sure you'll have difficulty trying to argue that "ketchup" is not a sauce as you have just asserted above.

Although i'm very glad to read what you just found on google, i wondering whether, seeing that you are now arguing that ketchup, although the specific term for a type of tomato sauce, also referr to non tomato based product, does this mean you acknowledge Ketchup is an anglicized term for an earlier malay sauce,(arguably referring to either eggplant, or fish, sauce) popular before the tomato was even eaten in Asia....

This reference to the etymology of "ketchup" clearly shows it is a sauce, although not necessarily a tomato based one.

Can you see know why i prefer the term "tomato sauce" sure it's generic, but it does not indicate the misuse of a foreign term merely to describe the difference between a condiment and a base sauce, which most people don't seem to have the same trouble you do in identifying.

Eitherway, whatever you wish to call it, that red stuff in the little packets is filthy and wrong!
