The reason I ask is because they are new characters and usually new characters created for a specific project are more likely to die than classic/main characters.

First Jason. While I'm not sure how much I like the idea of Superman having a son, it made for a good story in this film. However, it's hard to say where they can go from here, and Jason's death at the hands of someone like Darkseid would make for a incredibley dramatic, intense climactic fight scene.

Now Richard. Short of making him a super villian, or a wife/girlfriend beater, I don't know how the writers can make it satisfying for the audience to see Clark and Lois hook up at his expense. I hope they don't go that route though. It was refreshing to see the opposite of a protagonist in a love triangle not be a straight up jerk. I like his character, but I think the best way to bring Supes and Lois together is to kill him off in the 2nd film and bring the inevitable lovers together in a 3rd.

I think that Jason will die in one of the sequels but just like in STM where Lois dies, Superman will defy the laws of Nature and bring him back to life.

For the sequel, I'd like one of three things to happen. 1. Kill the kid with Braniac and have Supes go ballistic in an all out battle with him.
2. (Villain?) Kidnap the kid, clone the kid ( a fast growing clone) and have him fight supes.
3. De-power the kid from experiments trying to clone him (villain?) and have Supes go nuts on whoever does that.

Whatever the case, just make the kid insignificant in terms of a third movie.

How is Richard going to take it that he is not Jasons Biologicle Father ?

I think Richard will die, but not Jason, they cant make him die, it wouldnt be the "Superman spirit" to make kids die...

That's true. One doesn't normally see kids die in an action film, and definitely not in a PG film. Unfortunately, it looks like we're stuck with Jason, which is really kind of sad, IMO because having him rules out any possibility for Kara, as well as it creates a subplot with the kid in every successive sequel that we'll have to see.

I'm pretty sure Richard is going to die... but honestly, I wouldn't count it in until the third one... in fact, I wouldn't even count out the idea of Clark having an alternate love interest for number two.

As far as Jason, no, he is not going to die... he is going to be a problem... he may even turn Richard into an antagonist once the guy finds out... he's Superman's legacy... and superman needs a legacy... again, Jason is designed TO BE A PROBLEM, and to force Superman from falling into the comfortable, beat Lex, love Lois, rinse lather repeat storylines...

They can't kill Jason!!!!!!!!!!!! no, not him. There are so many ways to explore him, now that he is superman's son....with richard.....that's gonna break my heart...if i have to decide between the two to die, it will be richard.....

I wish the kid would end up dying or become depowered. I think the idea of Superman's son would have actually been a good ENDING to a trilogy of films, not a BEGINING. I just can't forsee a decent plot that would involve the kid.

i really hope that the kid will die so supes can go crazy, i want to see him beat the holy booboo out of someone, but that wont happen, i think the best way for richard to die is in a plane crash and superman doesnt get there in time. but hey if a little boys parents can get shot right in front of him in a PG movie then i think a kid can die that jus dont have to make it violent or gorey.

Maybe Jason is really Zod's kid??
Or maybe Jason's real surname is Todd and...eh,forget it!!

:supes: Well, I have to admit I have not read or followed the comic for some time, but when I realized that Jason was SM's son I was shocked. There are a lot of unanswered questions. But to address your question, no one will die. Not yet at least. I think Richard is being set up to become a villain. I think that Jason is presented to create future situations with kidnappings or attempts to murder him. Jason is also a way to carry on the tradition of SM, for SM will die. I think this is interesting but it could be very convuluted if the next sequel does not tie things up.

I don't think Richard is going to die or turn to villainy. Either would be too convenient, and Singer has already shown he doesn't go for the easy resolutions by A) making Richard almost as heroic as Superman and B) even introducing Jason in the first place.

I think Richard is eventually going to do what any "too-good-to-be-true" man does in that situation. He'll realize that Lois really loves Superman, and he will step aside and let them be together, or at least just leave her alone to sort out her feelings, etc.

Of course, as a "reward" Singer will probably hook him up with Lori Lemaris, Kara Zor-L or Cat Grant at the end of Superman 2.

Jason must live!!! c'mon is about time that superman became a daddy, for me that was a smart move!!! Singer you are Genius!!!!

I don't think Jason will die, as someone said before, it's not the spirit of Superman, and I would not want to see his son or any child succumb to that kind of an end. I go to watch these kinds of movies because of that feeling that most of everyone will live. I'm not one for the depressing film.

Richard now, I can see him sacrificing himself for Superman/Clarke, Lois, Jason or even Perry and Jimmy, but if they were to do something of that extreme, I'd wait till like the third time. I'd like to see the character of Richard explored more first.

Richard leaving his relationship is possible but I don't think that it would be easy. How can Lois ever have a life with Superman. Wait she can't unless she knows who he really is and she has almost no relationship with Clark at this point. Richard can't just leave his son and Jason is his son he has been there from the start and loves him period as such he is Jason's father in every way that matters. Making him a villian is a cop out and one that destroys the character they created. It would make no sense in the context of what we have been shown. Will he be angry, hurt when he finds out but will he still love Jason, yes definitely if he is really the human Superman then no matter what he would love Jason as his kid period.

I think if Jason died it could add alot of emotion, but if they did that they should wait until at least the third film.

See the thing is Jason is going to be alive. But the thing is he uses his power for bad and then Superman removes his power with gold kryptonite. But then Jason will realize his responsibility. So he takes over Superman's job when he gets to old. well thats what I read somewere.

When or if superman dies, then the whole franchise should go with it because theres noway in hell that i wanna see a new superman going by the name of jason white-lane-kent or whateva.
