I thought Patrick Stewart was so good in this, I'm talking like Oscar good.

He reminded me of Sylvester Stallone in Creed, except obviously more crazy. And Stallone was nominated for best supporting actor in Creed (which is the seventh movie in the Rocky series).

Do you think Patrick Stewart has a chance of getting a nom, or am I just overhyping this?

I don't think you're overhyping, I just think it's too early to tell. I would certainly like for that to happen, but this year's Oscars just wrapped up. God knows what movies and roles will prove themselves in the following year. Sir Patrick gave a great performance, and when I look at this year's nominees, yes, I would nominate him, why not? But, I say, it's too early to tell.

I think it could happen - look at Alan Arkin in Little Miss Sunshine.

Without question, in all honesty it probably wont for various reasons, ie its a long way out from award season now, comic book movie stigma etc etc but he could not have given any more in the roll and had a great script to work with. What his character was going through and had been through was perfectly conveyed by Stewart, it demanded a lot and for me he delivered in every aspect. Its easily the best performance since Heath for me in a comic book movie, although I dont think Hugh was too far behind either.

Nah! Academy doesn't usually go for genre films, and being released in March, will do him no favors.

Both him an Keen are possibilities next year. Strongest performances in a superhero movie since Heath Ledger.

Stewart, Keen and Jackman were all absolutely fantastic. All showed their range, all showed depth of character, all felt natural and real, yet magnetic at the same time.

All will be ignored by every one of the major award ceremonies.

Yeah in my eyes all 3 deserve a nomination, 3 truly superb performances.

It makes me want to see what other superhero actors can do with these roles too given the chance to truly utilize the full extent of their god-given talents. Like, imagine the kind of work that RDJ or Chris Evans or ScarJo could do? Like Hugh and Patrick, the Avengers actors have been great in the films up until now, but it makes me wonder if there's more to be explored with these actors and characters.

Fox should definitely consider throwing some resources behind making it happen.

Which is understandable considering that nearly a year will have passed by the time the next Oscar nominations will be announced.

they do unfortully awards shows tend to snub genre projects.emmys are getting a little better with game of thrones and before that lost but truthfully besides
honoring heath ledger after his death they still post lord of the rings snub genre films.

With the amount of attention Deadpool got, despite being less well-received, I could see Fox deciding to throw their weight behind Jackman and Stewart getting nominations.

Definitely. I can also see them nominating Dafne Keane.

I think he definitely deserves one. He was amazing.

If Hugh and Patrick aren't BOTH nominated than I'm sticking to caring about Razzies only from there on out.

Seriously.

Gosh I think this movie is truly Oscar worthy. Ain't seen a movie quite like this. Not just for Patrick, but for Hugh and the little girl too. Maybe even for the whole movie. All Oscar worthy.

I'd be surprised if the actors get nominated.

First of all it's a bit harder to fit in when you're in genre film. Ledger got nominated and won, but as seen the few other times tragedy has struck between a performance and the awards that tends to play in a lot.

What the movie has going for it is that it's more "serious". That's the kind of movies that tend to get more recognition compared to comedy etc. On the other hand the smaller drama movies that get made are much tougher competition in emotional drama, compared to how the superhero genre stands when you compare big action movies to each other (the latter not being very relevant for the Oscars, but that's what the superhero genre excels at the most in comparisons).

There's certainly a chance it will happen, but I just think the odds lean towards it not happening. Then again I don't really care about awards for art.

I don't think Stewart was exectly special here. He's good, as always. The gut punch is helped the decade plus we've shared with his portrayal. Think Alan Rickman as Snape in Deathly Hollows.

I think the Oscars are too snobby for anyone in Logan to get a nomination, but I'm sure they'll get noticed for things like MTV Movie Awards or People's Choice Awards.

If there is a movie post-Dark Knight that could make it happen it is this one. That said I still find it unlikely that anyone in Logan will get nominated. Even if I believe they deserve it.

All I'm saying is if a highbrow outlet like NPR, yes I listen to NPR, can give it a glowing review then it definitely has a shot at something. Especially since it's the most unconventional superhero film in years. It's basically a Western/Science-Fiction mash-up with the dramatic weight of an indie film.

Let's not forget Teen Choice Awards and Saturn Awards.
