With Spider-Man it's anything but a cliché. Not sure why you're so against this. :S

to be honest I'd rather the movie avoided the love interest cliché but if it is unavoidable then let's hope it is genuine and believeable.

It will be unavoidable alas. But I dont mind it as long as it's done right. Not many films pull it off convincingly.

because I want the movie to concentrate on the hero (any by this I mean spider-man) but leave enough for the villain.

in BB and TDK the love interest is barely an after thought so why does the love interest have to be cenrtral to spider-man. haven't we already seen that?

Final swing has nothing to do with romance
Blend the two since one picture says Gwen learns the truth and treats Peter's wounds, have Pete swinging with Gwen

I'd say Spidey has had more leading ladies in his life than Batman. This movie is called The Amazing Spider-Man, not Peter loves Gwen. But I want to see Gwen's story too, especially a certain tragedy involving her.

Has the plot synopsis, trailer, numerous interviews, set pics/vids and official stills indicated that they're focusing too much on the romantic part of the story? No.

So relax. :)

The pete/mj relationship on the Raimi films was terrible. Maguire and dust had no chemistry, the dialogue was awful, and the it felt like they where reading from a peice of paper... BADLY.

Was the Bruce/rachael relationship amazing? No. But it didn't suck me out of the film like pete and mj.

Yes, I do think the Nolan films in every aspect are better than the Raimi spidey films. And easily the worst hung from any of those films is the pete/mj relationship.

I disagree. Maguire and Dunst had great chemistry.

Exactly. This is a Spider-man movie and there WILL be a love story cause let's face it, Pete's life is very much a 'soap opera' of sorts. And just because that is part of the movie doesn't mean that's the main focus.

I am excited to see Gwen Stacy finally brought to the mix and I hope they really bring her character to life in the way it should be and not what we got with SM3. The Pete and Gwen relationship is something I am looking forward to and from what I've heard others say, that saw the CC footage, they seem to have excellent chemistry.

Spider-Man has always been about the melodrama of Peter's relationships as much or more than it has been about the action, which is not the case with Batman or almost any other superhero. Not depicting Peter's love life would be a mistake.

Webb is a much different director then Raimi. I think the relationships will have a much greater depth of emotion. More subtlty and nuance. It won't feel candy coated and melodramatic.

And you want to create a great emotional connection between the characters and with the audience. When Gwen is killed Peter's anguish will resonate all the more with us. Minimizing or pushing a major part of Peter's life into the background because it's been done before (and poorly) makes no sense.

they would of been better if they just got card boards cutouts of them to do their job for them. chemistry would of been much better

So ummm how did a thread for the final swing turn into a debate about romance? lol

Emma mentioned at comic-con that Gwen would swing with Peter.

Wow this my first time hearing of this. This should be an interesting thing to see! :woot: hope the swinging scenes are different from Raimi films. But I don't know how they can pull this off, making it different...

^I was thinking of that, too. lol Unless, of course, Gwen does find out that Peter is Spider-Man.

melodrama, angst angst, melodrama, angst.

My bad guys it was actually Andrew that mentioned it, but Emma talked about it too. Unless I'm totally misunderstanding them...

They talk about it at 10:20-ish.
