Written by Brian Azzarello and drawn by Rags Morales. I'm excited.

Didio then revealed that DC would bring back the classic pulp hero Doc Savage via a monthly series to be written by Brian Azarello ("100 Bullets") and drawn by Rags Morales. Morales said that the series will bring Savage into the DCU, though it will take place in an alternate universe where he will work and interact alongside such classic characters as Blackhawk and Will Eisner's The Spirit. The world Savage lives in will also be a blend of our modern era and the classic ‘30s pulp era he comes from ("cell phones and tommy guns" as DiDio put it). No news was given about a release date yet.

Now if they can just include the Shadow, Tarzan, and the Phantom, DC could have its own awesome pulp universe.

where's C Lee? :D

About time they did another Doc Savage series

I was reading something about this a couple of weeks ago....I believe that the Shadow and the Phantom are involved with this, but didn't hear anything about Tarzan in the mix.

doc SAVAGE is back in action?i am there

This sounds really freakin' cool!!! There isn't a release date is there?

I would be all over a pulp-styled universe, and if DC had the rights to more of the classic characters that they could populate it with...all the better!!!!

Wow, the phantom is at three publishers now, how is that possible? No way can Dynamite, DC, and MoonStone get to release comics with the Phantom.

I belong to a Doc Savage web discussion group, and I've went back and looked through the archived stuff from last few months.....and this came up back at the first of May. At that time DC was keeping a major lid on it. It was said that Doc would team up with other non-superpower heroes from the 30's and 40's. There was a pre-production drawing that showed Doc with Rima the Jungle girl and Blackhawk....and talk of The Avenger, the Shadow, and The Phantom.

Lately the talk of the Avenger, Shadow, and Phantom have stopped. So I wouldn't count on them being in it at this time. But then again only the people at DC know what they are doing right now.

I thought I heard something about The Spirit being involved in this, if I'm not mistaken.

EDIT: Oh, duh, I missed that part in the OP.

Azzarello is over-rated. Everyone loves him and i just don't get it.

He's okay... Nothin' special.

I thought the whole Dynamite thing was debunked in favor of Moonstone. And since Moonstone has him, I doubt DC will get their hands on him.

I do hope DC gets The Shadow though.

The fanedit DOC SALVAGED: THE FANEDIT OF BRONZE improved it greatly. I took a copy of that and edited it down some more...I think it's a much better movie now.

So, I know next to nothing about Doc Savage. I skimmed his Wikipedia page, but I still didn't see any reason for him to be known as "the man of bronze." Is his skin really bronze-colored? If so, why? If not, why is he called that?

The way the story goes....Doc spends so much time out in tropical areas, that he has a deep "bronze like" tan. He his so perfectly muscled and has such good skin tone that he looks like a bronze statue.

There is also the theory that his mother was a Mayan (his father found a lost valley with a large population of them....this is also where he gets his fortune of gold to finance his adventures)....and so his skin coloring could come from that.

Other intersting facts for those who don't know;

Created in 1933
His first name is CLARK
Is called a "superman"
Is called THE MAN OF BRONZE
Has a fortress of solitude in the arctic circle

Heh, yeah, I read about the Fortress of Solitude on his Wiki page. I guess whoever brought it over to the Superman comics was a Doc Savage fan.

Thanks for explaining the bronze thing. I'll go with the explanation that his mother's a Mayan, since getting a bronze tan sounds kind of silly to me.

You ever look at George Hamilton?:woot:

God, I love Rags Morales' work. It's a shame he never stays on one comic for too long, though.

I can't wait for this. I love Doc Savage. This universe will have also Rima, The Spirit, The Avenger, and The Blackhawks and have a BTAS look. I would love to see The Phantom (although this maybe unlikely since he is at other publishers), but also The Shadow, Tarzan, The Spider. I wouldn't mind seeing The Rocketeer or Rocket Man (Jeff King- from the old 1940's serial) show up here, since it will be non-powered heroes.
Rags, also pointed out some other non-powered DC heroes could show up, hmmmmm.............Batman? Green Arrow? Sgt. Rock? The Human Target? King Faraday? The Vigilante? The Crimson Avenger/ Lee Travis? Sandman/ Wesley Dodds? Owlman/ Roy Raymond, Jr.? Rick Flagg? I don't know I am just thinking of non-powered heroes, any you guys got an idea????
Batman would need to be limited in his apprearances, Doc is suppossed to be center stage and not Bats.
