If so, what art are you in and what rank do you hold?

I use to I never made it past white belt, I hated it :o

2 of my friends are black belts.

I know basic self defence at least :)

I know Nightavenger has a black belt in taekwando

I take Brazilian jiujitsu, krav maga, and boxing classes.

lol, not rlly.

My friend takes hella martial arts and these kids knew that. So on halloween three kids tried ot gang up on him, he injured one, broke anothers arm and the other one ran away :yay:

i'm a shodan. i could have gone on further and got to the point where i could teach but then i got ill for along time. now getting the flexibility back would be a right pain.

I took Karate. I stopped because it was too much money. It was Kenpo Karate. I kicked a brown belt in the head when I had a yellow belt.

I took karate, then self-defense till I got a yellow belt and quit cuz lessons had to be paid for after that.

Wow. For some reason I thought there'd be more fellow martial artists here. I guess not, lol.

Well damn. Not single person is still IN training here?

I was surprised that nobody reached black belt either.

I never took TKD. Don't think I ever will either.

More defensive than offensive, for sure.

shodan is blackbelt. i did 8 years worth untill i was 15 it's like riding a bike you just have to stay in shape.

Didn't know that, lol, I apologize. I thought shodan was the name of the art.

Warhammer: What do you mean?

black belt in TKD, also training in muay thai, aikido, and american boxing, helped teach women's self defense class

I always looked at TKD was being more defensive as offensive.
More stationary and not as free flowing, I guess.

I was never a huge fan of TKD. I'm a very defensive fighter, and I always saw TKD as an offensive art.

Not to mention, just about every person I've ever met that takes TKD has been very cocky. In competitions they tend to have VERY sloppy footwork, they never look where they're swinging, and they're all over the place. I'm just not down for that kinda thing [a few months ago, a boy in TKD came to me asking me to teach him how to fight better, then threatened to kill me two days later- and he was seroius... That doesn't make any sense to me at all...]. No offense to you, however, as I don't know you and haven't seen you and how you train, but I'm speaking on personal experiences.

I have a Black belt in TKD

i said that in the photo album thread and they made karate kid jokes for a week

Yeah what really ticks me off is when you mention you have a black belt, the first thing people ask is, "can you kick so-and-so's ass?"

Or my favorite, "can you do a jump spinning triple back flip?"

Or the best: "Can you break boards with your hands?"

Stupid questions from stupid people.

that's because everything is missrepresented in media. but it discourages the immature from taking up the art.

I know. I can't stand the picture put on us. Especially when the martial arts instructor follows suit with that media image.

party pieces don't resolve conflict with minimum force.
