The Rise of Skywalker Does Kathleen Kennedy get fired after ROS?

Disney is still figuring out what they can do with SW. Its easy to look at TFA and conclude they can turn out a $2B movie each time as long as they make the right film, but that movie was under special circumstances and difficult to duplicate again.

I think given how TROS has performed moneywise, Kennedy won't be given the ax. Not saying she won't leave on her own, but i'm skeptical Iger will can her.

Then again, I think Iger has effectively taken alot of power away from her anyway so there probably isn't a need to fire her.

Ultimatley if TROS keeps performing good enough to make a billion , Disney will keep churning these films even as the quality of the story declines; as they have more drama behind the scenes, as the sw fandom is a dumpster fire of hardliners on both sides, and as the tomato scores go down.

Had TROS really kept underperforming as it looked like it might after the first weekend, then I think there would be a bigger shake up all around.

But , if this is another billion dollar hit film, regardless of how much a better film could make, I think Disney will settle for a " passable" film as opposed to a really good SW.

I agree with 100% of this. If anything, I called it earlier, KK might fall on the sword (or lightsaber) if for any reason to stave off the critics and get some of the heat off the franchise. I too believe full creative control has likely already been handed off to someone else, maybe a combination of Filoni, Hidalgo, and Favreau. Honestly she's a good executive and never really been much of a creator, but she does deserve the blame for not properly vetting the directors she hired to make sure everyone was on the same page.

If those leaks at saltierthancrait are true (not a subreddit I frequent but got linked to a post), it seems likely at yet apparently TRoS might not even be her fault, but melding from the higher ups at Disney.

Its made $800M worldwide already, should make at least a billion. She's not getting fired.

She'll be (casually forced) to step down for "wanting to move onto new things" soon (because of her lack of control on direction/directors/etc. these last 5 years). I'm guessing by June/July, and then a soft announcement for the next steps, more tv/a new trilogy/etc. with a 2023-2025 timeframe.

With Favreau [at worse Feige] stepping up alongside Filoni. Both sharing a dual "overseeing" position of all Star Wars film/tv media...

It'll be a good move for Jon [heading into his latter half of his career] with his Mandalorian/MCU/Disney remake game. And, it'll be a huge flex for them to respect Filoni's success as the actual torch carrier for George Lucas.

This will please the common folk and us logical/normal fans.

They can oversee each other while also stepping up for each other when the other has something else to do on the side.

hidalgo needs to be tossed down a reactor shaft as well. don't need his petty ass either :oldrazz:

as much as i like favreau, i don't know if he's the right caretaker for this. i liked mando a lot, but some of the weaker parts were still just as bad as the ST in terms of tonal shifts

There's no reason for Kennedy to step down right now. She re-upped until 2021 as I recall. She will stay at least through that time. Rise of Skywalker is at $830 million worldwide now and still going. We aren't at Justice League level numbers here. That's all that matters at the end of the day. Financial results.

Despite all the stupid YouTube videos and fan debates, Kennedy has achieved strong results.

we don't know how much RoS cost yet+reshoots

and contract reups mean nothing

I mean when all the rage YouTubers were asking for her to step down she still re-upped when everyone said she was getting fired. She re-upped for another three years. So that means nothing as far as I know.

As for the budget, the number I'm seeing reported is $275 million. So let's say, about a $400 million cost at least with marketing and what not.

So right now, the film has $450 million in the US and $930 million worldwide. It seems fairly reasonable to say it will break $1 billion worldwide and start becoming profitable at some point. I'd say $550 million domestic is fairly likely.

If the reshoots are as extensive as rumoured that number is probably further north than $275m. Half a billion budget for this film is not an unrealistic figure IMO.

$275 million is already pretty high. Why is it unreasonable to consider that includes reshoots?

It's not, but it's equally not unreasonable to suggest a lot more was spent on this than $275m considering Disney more or less paid for Solo twice.

Variety reported that Solo due to its extended reshoots ended up costing more than $250 million. So $275 million would put this maybe around the same as Solo, and the movie going to more than double SOLO's US box office, and perhaps even triple it.

Solo only made $392 million worldwide, so worldwide is easily going to surpass possibly by four times.

Oh Solo...man say what you want but i do kind of wish we get a second one.
The potential is there but they were so scared to fail that they made decision that did exactly that.

Let's say a conservative figure is $425m in total (production + marketing) for this film, and stick to the general rule of thumb that the film needs to earn twice it's budget to become profitable. Whatever profit the film gets from the box office is going to be small compared to the other films.

After reading a synopsis of Trevorrow's original script, yeah, she should absolutely be fired. Trevorrow's "Duel of Fates" version of EP9 was very cool, head and shoulders above that ROS
abomination.

The only two movies in the last 5 that Kathleen did NOT screw up were TFA and R1. Her tenure has been a disaster, plain and simple.

I agree. The Trevorrow version would have been way better than the crap fest we got

It's not like they actually tried to duplicate it though.

To be fair, wasn't it rumored that Trevorrow was also acted an ass? And that's part of why he was let go?

I tend to think that was Disney spin at this point.

In other news:
And this is coming after her statements last August, where she said the scripts were good and they'd be filmed as soon as possible. She's just so bad at keeping things on schedule.

Has the Obi-Wan news been confirmed anywhere other than the original article?
