Transformers Don Murphy is a bit pissed.. well very

and you can honestly say all this without seeing this movie?????

Of course I can. That's the point of these idiotic boards right? No one has seen the movie... that's a given... but I can tell you this:

I have no idea who half the characters are (the list is official now ain't it?), the alt-modes are insanely different, the storyline (from the leaked scripts) is completely idiotic and doesn't have the same undertones as Transformers (unless that has been changed???... energy crisis? fossil fuel dependence? environmental stuff?).... so my affinity to this movie is the same as the affinity to Godzilla 97. Meaning zero.

Of course, I haven't seen it.... and I'm sure it'll be a great "robots" movie with fantastic special effects. Godzilla had fantastic (and as Dean Devlin likes to point- groundbreaking) effects too.

Just my 2c. But, I guess I'm a hater... as Don Murphy would say.
Or just a lover of Transformers.

P.S. Plus Don Murphy is a lunatic.

you dont know half of the characters???? I pretty much know the Autobots and some of the Decepticons....and that is from the G1 cartoon.....and since when is knowing the characters the end all judge of how well a movie does.....what did you know about the Matrix before you saw it?????
Altmodes different??????
Is Optimus a truck, is bumble bee a yellow car?????
other changes were made due to the nature of Hasbro owning the rights. Back in 89 you could make a toy gun and no one look at you twice...now adays it's frowned on.
Did every episode of Transformers have anything to do with environmental stuff????? If it was Captain Planet with robots i would agree with you but this is not the case. How much of the conservation message came thru in the Transformers:the movie???????

We've been through this before... and I can't believe you're still on these forums. Yeesh.

As for everything else.... I specifically said it could very well be a good movie (like you mention The Matrix). A great "robots" movie. Judged on its own, Godzilla 97 was probably a better Jurassic Park sequel than Jurassic Park II. All I'm saying is that I have no AFFINTY for this movie. And, that'll probably translate (for me at least) as a "wait-for-DVD" thing.

And, that's all. I'm glad you're excited.

yeah im hard headed like that:up:

But let’s talk Transformers shall we? There has been a lot of leaks of photos, scripts, tidbits both true and false. Roberto and Alex spoke on a webcast this week. Lots of things coming out which are costing people their jobs. Good stuff, bad stuff.

Man this sounds a bit harsh doesn't it?:(

I don't know why people assume Murphy should be above arguing with his fans. He's basically getting down on our level so to speak to converse with us, and we act the same way towards others that he did in that message.
Oh, wow - The great and mighty Hollywood god-being has descended from the heavens to enlighten us with his divine knowledge. Be still, my heart !

So long as Starscream attempts to usurp Megatron as leader throughout the movie, whether in a subtle or blatant fashion, I don't give a **** what he looks like.
Surprise: He won't. He doesn't even have any real speaking part.

Creature SH you're not going to see this movie so why even post here anymore?

I'm trying to get a little boycott going. I know that it's a war I'm ultimately going to lose, but I feel like at least have to try.

I say we should all protest starscream's robot mode until it is changed. The robot mode reminds of something from a bad B movie sci-fi horror film!!! I can tolerate some change when I comic book or cartoon is translated to film but, this is unforgivable. I will consider not seeing the movie if that robot mode is not changed.

So, what? Like your, um gonna spend more money buying or renting the DVD then you would spend seeing it in theaters?

Thats real intelligent.

I have to be honest: What is Don Murphy suppose to say? Of course he'll defend his own movie. It's his right. He even admits that he doesn't agree on every decision on this movie.

AND BTW, he's always been outspoken, so I wasn't surprised that he even made his statement.

Their alt-modes were tied into their personalities. Optimus was commanding and in charge, and his big ass truck mode reflected that. Jazz was a rocker and free spirit, his alt mode reflected that. Bumblebee was the little guy who related to the little guys. His alt mode reflected that. There were like a dozen other cars on the market that would have been a better choice than a muscle car for his alt mode. Pretty much every company makes a little hatchback. Any one of those would have been a better choice. The fanbase accepted long ago that VW were going to be pricks and not let them make him a bug.

I have no problem with Prime being a long nosed truck. He's still a semi. I have no problem with Ironhide being a pickup. Heck, I like it more than him being a van. I have no problem with Ratchet being a S&R vehicle. I just don't understand some of the asthetic decisions involved. There are plenty of red and white S&R vehicles out there, so there was no reason not to make Ratchet his original colors. There are plenty of red pickups out there, so there was no reason not to make Ironhide his original colors. There was absolutely no reason to give Prime that horrible flame scheme. I mean next thing you know Jazz is going to be blue. These are simple things that are hard to get wrong, yet it seems like the design team for this movie is trying their hardest to do just that.

I just don't understand why they think alternator-style TF designs are so much more unrealistic than a robot that looks like a space wasp/gorilla/chicken. Look at all the fan made stuff thats come out over the years. It looks great, there was no good reason for all the drastic changes. None whatsoever.

That said, I can accept Prime's gay paint job and wierd robot/reptile looking design because he still looks like prime. I can accept Bumblebee's Bionicle design because he still somewhat looks like Bumblebee. I can accept Blackout's design because he's a new character and isn't going completely against our memories of a beloved character. In fact he looks badass. Just don't like his bug head. But Starscream is just the result of people in charge just not caring about the property and we have a right to be pissed off.

Though I have a theory, that starscream won't look anything like that. I think they released that pic alongside the others so we look at it and go "Holy ****, thats just so ****ing horrible I can't believe it. I don't care about the others as long as they just change that!" If thats whats happened, it worked. Much like some filmmakers do when it comes to the ratings board. They film some horrible scene in hopes that it distracts the board from another scene so they can keep it.

Spoken like a guy that goes to movies alone.

If you've got friends, a girlfriend, a wife or a fiance...
I dunno about anywhere else, but in New York City it costs like $22 for two people to go see a movie.

Whereas $3.00 (prob less if you Netflix) for a rent where you ALL can watch it makes it a lot more enjoyable (esp if you have a nice plasma and surround sound setup). I enjoyed Fantastic Four at home- for what it was. But, I know I would have been totally upset if we paid full price at the theater. Blah!

I have a question for the group. How many of you, when you were a 16-year-old boy, would have wanted a VW bug as your 1st car?? In the early '80's they cool for guys to drive, hell Kevin Bacon drove one in "Footloose", but now, let's face it, they're chick-cars. And since Bumblebee is supposed to be Spike's guardian, the Camaro would work better if he was trying to get Spike to pick him.

I have to agree with you on FF. Hell, almost felt like I wasted a spot on my Netflix queue on that one.

Old school bugs are still cool. Its new bugs that are chick cars. And we're not *****ing that he's not a bug. Volkswagen screwed up on that one, we accept it. Its that after a VW bug they went with a muscle car instead of a little hatchback. Wrong choice. Sure a camaro is cool and all, but not for Bumblebee.

Cars that would have made a better Bumblebee:

And heck, if Volkswagen came around and let them use their cars, and you were still worried about BB being a chick car, then this would have been fine:

And the r32 would have been great for chase scenes too, as its a beast under the hood. But yeah, VW screwed up.

Aside from the Cooper and the r32, would you have chosen any of the others as your 1st car? Just a question.

I probably wouldn't of had 10 grand to throw around at 16 (Heck, I don't now). There's a difference between choosing your first car and choosing within your means.

Although if he can't be an equally iconic small car like the Mini I'm not too bothered with his "upgrade", since a generic small car would've been slightly uninspiring for my tastes.

When Bumblebee was still cool.... so were Trans-Ams (Knight Rider!!!) and Deloreans (Back to the Future) and concept cars like the Dodge(?) Interceptor (The Wraith).... and many many more.

Bumblebee was made a bug for a reason IMO. I grew up knowing I didn't have to have a "cool car" like Arnie in Christine in order to be cool and my own person. Walk down any college campus.... do you REALLY see a bunch of Muscle Car nowadays? Perhaps. I dunno (I'm literally asking). I know I barely see them....

Quote from New York Magazine the other week:
"Chevrolet is bringing back the Camaro; New Jersey cheers."
(That's a dig on NJ Sopranos-style wiseguys who love to drive old Camaro IROC's.... it's a cliche).

all of these statements are based on your perceptions. If you told me there was gonna be a new Transformer cartoon and Prime was gonna be an ape I would say the same thing...before I saw the show.As DM mentioned this movie or any movie isnt a democracy. You have to pick and choose your battles...especially one like this movie that has so many hands tied into it. Hasbro has signed off on all these designs...if they didnt come up with them on their own. From what I have seen and heard it still seems to me that BumbleBee is still the little guy looking after little guys.

Great! Tanks, pal! I had almost forgotten Beast Wars! Damn, gotta start repressing the memories again.

You know, DM is kinda loony, but I totally agree with him in one thing: the haters shouldn't freak out so badly about that toy prototype of Starscream. Because, you know, it's a goddam toy prototype.

I mean, jesus.
