In the meantime, I hope Olivia Taylor Dudley gets to make more movies.

the dad has a glorious mustache. I'm not sure either of us are capable of such a feat.

Seriously... I always thought that the show was essentially DC's NEW GODS.

Huge hulking dad has two sons. One is as capable and skilled as the father but they clash all the time. The other is a frigging moron but he's totally loyal to poppa.

Darkseid.

Orion.

Kalibak.

They're basically giving her the guilt trip over bringing this stuff up "now that John Hughes is dead" ("now" being being almost nine years ago) and whining about progressivism.

Started reading some articles and then the comment sections. Yeah.... yeah.

She's not wrong. Sixteen Candles, and to a lesser extent, The Breakfast Club haven't aged well at all. I'm just glad my favorite one of his, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, is relatively innocent and free of cringey racist stereotypes and rapey vibes. Apart from the fact that Ed Rooney was a pedophile in real life, of course. :o

Well there is Ferris bullying someone so depressed they are suicidal and being a beacon of white privilege at times, but outside of that, we are good. :o

What I never understand about these arguments is why discussing how a film looks in the context of now turns into an indictment of those who watch them. Like people become personally offended, like you are attacking them.

Maybe it's just been too long since I've watched The Breakfast Club or maybe I just got desensitized to it from seeing it at such a young age, but I don't recall anything overly horrible in play, other than Judd Nelson treating Ringwald terribly, doing almost nothing redemptive and yet having her fall for him anyway.

But watching Sixteen Candles for the first time a few years ago was ****ing WILD.

I don't remember much about The Breakfast Club, but I have never watched it proper. Mostly as a kid on cable. Sixteen Candles, yeah. That one is pretty obvious. Ferris was the John Hughes film of my youth and well adulthood as well I guess.

Ehhh...you say bullying, I say peer pressure. I guess there's a thin line there.

But the big question I have from that movie is what was up with Cameron and Sloane holding hands during the parade scene when Ferris is up on that float? Were they just afraid of getting separated in the crowd? John Hughes left us with so many questions...
