We don't know the whole story. That's all. Baldwin is known for being quirky and nuts obviously, but none of knows what Basinger has been doing behind the scenes with this girl, or vice versa.

I've heard she can be quite the basket case herself.

Leave it to you to bring politics into this. Leave it to you to 'read my mind' and tell me exactly what I'm thinking and what my motivations are . And you wonder why many people on this board consider you beyond being able to have a rational conversation with. Using your logic, I could claim anyone defending him must agree with him politically, right? Yeah, but I'm not so much of an *ss that I would make such a ridiculous claim.

Plain and simple, no one should talk to their kids that way, period. I have a teenager FULL TIME whose own mother behaves much the same way Mr. Baldwin did in that phone message. Hot temper, arrogant and selfish. She takes it out on her kids, which is why they don't want to be around her, and which is also why they DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE when she calls. Who in the hell wants to be put through that?

Point being, how do you know this isn't standard operating procedure for Mr. Baldwin? You don't! All that we have to go on is a) Basinger's claims of his verbal abuse (long before now) and b) the evidence of his verbal abuse as demonstrated in this message. Conclusion? The guy's a jerk.

But hey, defend him all you like DESPITE what you see right in front of your face.

hehe. what took you so long to respond, sweetcheeks? anywhozzles, the only reason i'm bringing politics into this is because i know how you operate and this smacks of your anti-liberal bias. i doubt the outrage would have been as bad if it was bruce willis who was caught acting like an ass to his kid. yes, baldwin sounded like kind of a jerk, but neither you nor i have any idea what the other side of the story is. maybe basinger and the kid are ****ing with him and that was the last straw. it's not like he used profanity or threatened to kill her. he was pissed because the kid he doesn't get a chance to see as much as he'd like didn't answer the phone at the time they both agreed on. by the sound of it it wasn't the first time that had happened. there's no way it's any of our business, though. that's a private family issue. it's nice to see you stick to your right-wing, morally superior schtick, that's what you guys are good at, right? get right in there and tell him how to raise a kid because you're so enlightened when it comes to parenting.

...It sounds like Mr. Baldwin is slowly coming to realize, his 12 year-old is a conceited little hellspawn. It can be astounding that a being that horrible came from your own loins.

he should sit her down a calmly outline his points and thought process to her, because lord knows that 12 year olds are known for being rational about things.
and I'm sure she's not being manipulated at all by her mother because hey, it's not like that happens in divorced couples, only "hollywood" couples right?
