So it seems like every other day we're hearing remakes being announced. So in your opinion which movies should never be remade?

And if they're already a remake of an older movie then which movies should not have a second remake?

These are some of the movies I think should not be remade:

The Godfather
Goodfellas
Jaws
Back to the Future
The Shawshank Redemption
Apocalypse Now
The Matrix
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Titanic

Now I'm sure their are many more but i can't think of any others at the moment.

List yours guy's.

I pretty much agree with all of the ones you listed. The thing with these movies is that if you remake them... you lose them. The Back to the Future movies (for example) have a certain identity, and that identity is in EVERY aspect of the films. The cast, the story, the production design, the music. You can't recreate that, no matter how hard you try.

The most extreme example of this is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. It is IMPOSSIBLE to recreate what this movie did without extensively re-using parts from the original movie, and even then it's nearly impossible. You just can't do it without making an ass out of yourself.

The Pagemaster. :o

Alien/Aliens: Glad they haven't tried, the worst we've had so far are some bad sequels and a dubious prequel.

Amadeus: No point, really. It's not like modern film technology can make this any better.

The LOTR trilogy

The Godfather
Goodfellas
Jaws
Back to the Future
The Shawshank Redemption
Apocalypse Now
Raiders of the Lost Ark

These are the only ones I'd agree with then I'd put,

Star Wars
Gone With the Wind
Casablanca

I would say 12 Angry Men, and Seven Samurai but they actually have had decent remakes.

Blade Runner

Jaws

Close encounters of the third kind

E.T American Graffiti

Dr. No

Big Trouble in Little China would've been another one but The Rock is in going to remake it.

I'm glad because finally a white character is getting asian/black washed.

I luv me some FA... But I actually totally disagree brother. I am open to remakes on a case by case basis, yes, even some of those classics listed. I think Campea is 100% right on this. We will still have the classic film if a remake/re-boot isn't good. Our feelings toward the original won't change just because a mediocre or worse new version is made. We all talk about times now as if re-makes are this new blight in the world of entertainment but the "Golden Age" of Hollywood is filled with re-makes and some are considered classics. Ben-Hur, El Dorado, The Maltese Falcon... All re-Makes. Do I think that re-making a classic popular film is always a good idea? No. But until I actually see the finished product or at least something like a trailer I try to be opened minded.

Like with music, there can be multiple versions of popular hit songs. In an earlier time it wasn't uncommon to hear covers of popular songs even in the same time period that the original was being played on the radio. I love CCR's PROUD MARY but Tina Turner's version is also great. Simon and Garfunkel's version of BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER is timeless, but Aretha Franklin's version is a thing of beauty as well. Are there bad covers? Yeah. But that's never put me off hearing newer versions of classic songs. Yes, the analogy isn't precise since it's probably more like stage plays when it comes to song covers but my point still stands I believe.

Nothing is a sacred cow in entertainment. Nothing. The fact that they remade Psycho pretty much sealed it.

I had many suggestions, but I found that most have been remade or are being remade. :(

Nevertheless, Ghostbusters is something I hope is never dug up and violated.

Damn... Do you have some bad news to learn about brothaman.

Haha, I can't tell if regwec is beings serious or not for me to comment.

Pretty much the same here.

Only films that come to mind right now are:

Original (first) "Highlander", which was completely the product of eighties and would lose its charm entirely if set in different age.

"The Exorcist". Though, there are so many films that were very heavily influenced by it that they can be called remakes.

"2001: A Space Oddysey". For obvious reasons - remake would add nothing. Well it would add bunch of CGI which is exactly why classic SF films should not be remade.

"The Seventh Seal". One simply does not remake Ingmar Bergman.

Most of what I would have replied has already been mentioned, but I'll add Beetlejuice, The Princess Bride, and The Neverending Story

Ratner wants to remake Enter The Dragon.

I feel like they are going to remake every Carpenter film in his lifetime. There are certain remakes that work, but nothing is sacred.

With Rain in the lead right?

I thought this was about a remake of The Untouchables. :o

The Princess Bride

I wouldn't object to that so much, as the movie is adapted from a book anyway. It only really irritates me when a movie with an original screenplay is regurgitated.

As a matter of fact, I really thought so at first.
Fallen doesn't always make threads, but when he does he screws up the title. :o

Oh, and I remembered two more films: "The Green Mile" and "Forrest Gump".

Well, probably any film with Tom Hanks from the 90's actually.
