Classic Movies That Should Never Be Remade Or Get A Sequel

Memento ? Heard a lot of rumours that Nolan was trying to remake it, but a long time has passed and there's no news about this project.

Of interesting to note... Nolan himself remade a well regarded film. It's foreign so in this country there wasn't the same connection to the original but, well... There it is. The God Saint of modern films to many is himself "guilty" of remaking.

To kill a Mockingbird
Keep Superman's favorite movie untouched as it is

The Untouchables
I still need to rewatch this one
Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Home Alone
I'm not against a remake of Home Alone, but that other movie will be awkward if remade.

The sinking of the Titanic already had multiple versions before Cameron's film though.

And given the origin of LoTR as books first, with animated adaptations that preceded Jackson's films it's too late on that end as well really.

In all honesty I am not against movies being remade. I just think that right now with this generation of actors and lazy writing we have now most classic movies shouldn't be remade. I mean for example if you could find me a writer who can remake classic movies without adding in their own political agenda and a group of actors who could just as good of a job if not better then the cast of The Godfather, Back To The Future , Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, etc then by all means go ahead and do the movie.

If the remakes are as good as "The Thing," "The Fly," "Scarface," or even the more recent "Fright Night" and "Evild Dead" go ahead.
Otherwise, don't bother. There's no need for half-assed attempts such as "Nightmare on Elm Street," "Total Recall" and "RoboCop".

Because movies and art in general only started having political points of view the last couple of years, right?

Oh, wait...

So... You can't know until you've seen them, but don't bother to even try?

You don't see the paradox in this at all?

And as hard as this might be to conceive with us fans taking these films so seriously... No one involved with the production of any film, remake or not, goes in with the attitude of "half assing" it.

They aren't intentionally going out of their way to make something you or anyone else finds underwhelming. Nothing is assured. It's always a crapshoot no matter how talented the creators are or their track record.

You're missing what I am saying. For the examples I added above if you are going to remake them stay true to the source material don't go changing things to add your own agenda. That's where people get upset.

What? Dude?
I'm just saying that there if you are going to remake a movie, you better have a good take on the material.

Exactly. For example Robocop I thought had a good take on the material. I thought Total Recall was good. Hell I even thought the new Ghostbusters was alright in some parts and was willing to give it a chance till the cast and director came out saying people want this movie to fail because they hate women.

Out of those three movies, the "RoboCop" remake is the one I liked the most. It has some good ideas, but ultimately ends up being way too 'shy' in its execution.
I don't think Paul Feig really had any particular take on the "Ghostbusters," aside from the protagonists being female. I didn't care about its style and take on the supernatural, and was utterly confused by the movie's own rules about how the girls' technology works. The humour fell flat for me, as well, aside from Chris Hemsworth's clumsy secretary. I could've lived with an all-female Ghostbusters team, and even with it being a reboot, if only the movie was any good.

I see RoboCop, Total Recall and Ghostbusters and they are classic examples of what NOT to do with a reboot.
