Bethesda Doom Eternal

The economics of the industry arent even hard. Video games are insanely profitable. GTA 5 is the most profitable single piece of entertainment...in human history. Since 2013 it has made $6 billion and $500 million of that is from microtransactions and GTA online. Ubi, EA, Activision, Bethesda etc have all made hundreds of millions from their microtransactions. In the fourth quarter of 2018 (October - December) Activision reported $2.4 billion in revenue. These publishers make even more money by splitting content up into store exclusives thus encouraging gamers to buy multiple copies of a game. They have multiple editions sold for most major games that cost ever increasing prices that bring in more profits. There are season passes which range from $30 - $100 depending on the game. Some games like Destiny have yearly season passes. These publishers are so profitable the executives at these game publishers get 6 and 7 and even 8 figure bonuses while laying off thousands of employees to cut costs even if it's a very profitable year. And now these publishers are all launching their own subscription based platforms on PC which will being in even more profits.

Game publishers arent struggling to make money. They dont need microtransactions to survive. They want microtransactions because they are absurdly greedy ****s that want to make all the money and top the previous years profits even if that business strategy isnt sustainable. The execs at these publishers are parasites feeding on the industry and when theyve burst the economic bubble and the industry crashes theyll jump ship looking for the next industry to bleed dry.

Yeah look, the profits are good but all it takes is one bomb and an entire studio can go down. I’m not saying there aren’t greedy people. We all know the executives and companies that are most greedy. But there’s also a lot of people who have to work insane hours for not great wages only to find the finished product just wasn’t worth it.

that’s why I’m glad indies have come back into fashion

I have less than zero faith in Bethesda or any developer they lord over. I think one of two things is happening. Either Bethesda is making id retool the game to increase microtransactions and grind in the game, or they are retooling the game to decrease microtransactions in reaction to Wolfenstein New Blood being a PR and sales disaster. Either way I dont think this delay has anything to do with quality assurance. Bethesda doesnt give a single **** about quality.

Well it can't be that they are decreasing MTs because there are none in the game. But the former is very much possible, can't put anything past any publisher these days.

Jesus, microtransactions in a Doom game. The fact we can even think of that is just sad.

Just saw the trailer for this. I loved the first one so much...this will be GLORIOUS.

I'm actually going to miss the multiplayer from Doom 2016 but having a straightforward monster shooter like this is definently great.

I will say, the new gameplay videos that have come out have been pretty crazy.

Yes, just give me the single player. That is what I play Doom for. No MP should also make the platinum a little less annoying... unless they do what they did with Wolfenstein 2. :argh:

I don't think I've pre-ordered a game since... Half-Life 2 back in 2004?

If I'm going to get a game on day 1 then might as well just pre order days before release. Especially since I go digitally

After a hit with pre-ordering Resident Evil 2 and a bit of a miss with Mortal Kombat 11, I am definitely pre-ordering this and Resident Evil 3 going by what I have seen from both in trailer footage.

This game looks amazing. They’re really taking Doom back to the top.

Sounds like 2 good calls there.

Playing the last one was a bizarre experience for me. I was never really a Doom guy, but I gave the last one a chance after the Wolfenstein reboot won me over. The last one was so, so good. One of the best shooters I have ever played.
