Dr. Gordon Returns to Saw 7

I also am at a complete loss as to why Dr Gordon made some of the decisions he made over the past 6 films. What was his motivation besides "hey, let's make him an important character"?

The only best guess(es) would be Stockholm Syndrome (ala Amanda) and/or Dr. Gordon's family moved on without him.

Well, its official, the writers stated in their commentary that the two helpers are
Brad and Ryan, the guys from the opening trap!

Although the two things from the script I wish they used in the film:

During the bathroom scene

Hoffman: "You don't know what you're doing! John left this to me! This is mine! This is my legacy!"

Gordon: "No. You broke the rules. You took the test, but never learned the lesson."

and

At the end of the opening trap, the camera goes to the back of the dispersing crowd and reveals Jigsaw to be standing there, watching. It also means this trap is a flashback! At the end of the film during Gordon's montage, he is revealed to have been standing next to Jigsaw, this being the first trap they worked on together!

Its also confirms that
Gordon is indeed a true apprentice that will carry on Jigsaw's legacy, but a lot of important dialogue between him and Jigsaw
was cut out to create the illusion of closure to the series.

as a die-hard fan of everything leading up to the 7th film (but not including) and after hearing the main things about what could have been for the final chapter is almost depressing

the fact that these movies apparently have been declining in sales since part 3 is the reason why the studio wouldnt green light there to be an 8th film. based on the commentaries in the new film, there were so many things left out that werent filmed and summed up whereas if they were left as 2 films the original way the story was intended as, we would have gotten so much more information and closure.

how a studio can justify screwing over the fanbase created over the past 6 plus years and throw the last installment out the window in terms of the intelligence the previous chapters maintained is such a slap in the face BUT they had the money to fund this being in 3d?? and it was crappy 3d at that. at least resident evil and avatar didnt do the whole 'object coming at you' like most films in 3d do. thats such a gimmick and whats worse is when you get it on dvd it ends up looking so tacky.

the writers knew what they wanted for the last 2 and how they wanted to end the franchise, and if they would have been allowed to have it that way then the series would have been stellar. instead we get a mediocre fumbling of a film that never really creates much other than a simple slasher film. theres no depth and its rushed terribly. they could have at least made this a 2 hour film much like the directors cut of saw 3 and put more of what would have made this film better into it, but they didnt. if this is guna be the lsat chapter they could have broken the mold a little bit more and put more story into this one instead of just more traps. things like the dream sequence trap shouldnt have been in the film and important scenes and lines from the original script should have been better and fully realized on screen. david hackle should have been allowed to make this film because i believe he would have had more heart about the story instead of them dragging a director who already left the franchise back into something he wasnt passionate about.

its hard to kno that the last film wasnt all that good for a multitude of reason, but whats worse now is we kno what it could have been and its just a really really sad day for something that somebody like me hsa been so drawn into storywise and after years of waiting and wondering, to just get the most lame movie, not just for a saw movie but for a movie in general. it felt like a stupid direct to dvd film that nobody really cared enough about to make a huge event like it should have been

i can accept this as the last entry, because it is, and i intend to make my own version of it with inhanced blood and more dramatic colors as well as better editing and put some of the deleted footage back in. its just sad that i feel the need to have to do this because i cant trick myself into thinking saw 6 is the last one just cuz its the last good one.

gordon and his fellow pigmask people and the reason why it was them should have been made clear to the people watching the film instead of it being a tossed away idea. why would they even film two others unless they intended to explain their presence? what a waste of an idea. the survivors could have become what they were intended to be if the film was allowed to breath more. the blind trap was gunna have bobby wearing night vision goggles and that was how we were going to see that trap, that should have been used.

This "last" installment was so sloppy and half ass that I cant believe it was even greenlit by the studios. None of the actors could act there way out of a shoebox with the cover off and the acting was on the level of a soap opera at 1 pm on a weekday. Nothing made sense in the movie and most of the kills had nothing to do with the overall plot, just random traps. Was jigsaw even in this movie? The ending was so random too that it felt like fanboy dreams that were just thrown in. I saw videos on youtube 3 years ago that were self made endings that were almost identical to that ending and too obvious. Just a mess and clearly this series should have ended with part 3.

actually i thoroughly enjoyed every movie since 3, altho just recently the director of the last 2 movies gave insight into what the script for the 5th movie was like, and, for whatever reasons, they were omitted and theres things that would have made that one better but i still enjoy it (its more like a place holder in-between chapters). but 3d was so sloppy because they half-ass threw the 2 scripts together that were intended as parts 7 and 8. it was never supposed to end with one film the way it did. the writers and director explained what exactly the 2 films would have been comprised of and if they were made that way it would have been so good and a fitting end to the series.

gordon wasnt going to be revealed until the end of 7. bobby was going to be in a hospital after his girlfriends death and gordon was going to walk up to him and offer help. the movie was to start with the garage trap and hoffman was going to be mia the whole film for the same reason he went missing in 3d.
the 8th film would have started with the public trap and at he end of the scene you were going to see john standing in the crowd (to show it was in the past) and the survivors were going to be united to carry on the legacy by gordon. and the pigmask people at the end capturing hoffman would have been the 2 guys who survived the public trap because it would have been revealed that gordon helped john set that trap up as his assistant.

This wasn't all that bad. I mean I just got the answer to my only real question about who the 2 were with Gordon. I hate that they didnt get to put in some of the scenes they wanted and that we didnt get one more film to fully explore Gordon but I liked this movie. These were the first traps to really make me cringe' plus that opening trap, the one in public, was BY FAR my favorite trap of the whole series! Screw that 2 timing ****! I was sooooo glad that both the dudes decided to save themselves instead of turning on each other

I am glad we got to see somebody's jaw ripped open FINALLY after teasing it since the first movie. Too bad Mirrors beat em to the punch on that though

I went ahead and saw it...

Some of the acting was atrocious, especially from the lead cop guy.

The worst part of the film is the lead cop IMO. The script didn't help him much either , especially the crazy line . Also the subplot about Hoffman killing the bum was too forced. It would of been better if Hoffman shot the bum while he was still holding the knife.

I couldnt stand him ethier, If I was him audtioning for other roles I would hope the studios dont use this movie for reference. Also what was with the blood looking so fake? I can see why this was the worst rated on rottentomatoes. My main problems with the film are:

- None of the actors outside elwes were good, acting was on the level of all my children.
- The story was terrible and uninspired.
- None of the traps had anything in common like the previous movies.
- The sets, props and blood were horrible and cheesey. Seriously I almost laughed when the jigsaw puppet in the cage came bursting through the glass to play a tape, just reminded me of some haunted house.
- The ending was so shoehorned in to the point to where there was nothing that led up to it, just felt like an ending from another movie they tacked on.
- Im feel bad for the ones who paid to see this in 3D, there were only 2 shots that maybe called for 3D and thats it.

the blood was so pink because the film had to be lighted differently for the 3d cameras. the whole film is basically too bright. they ended up hiring a new dp (director of photography) so it wasnt the same colors and lighting as the previous 6.

the director was pulled back in so it was in his hands to make the actors perform well. i dont think he really cared too much and the goofy undertones really hurt the film because the 7th and last film is no time to make funny remarks. there was always funny lines but it was the context of the situations, we didnt get that this time

there were too many traps and not very inventive. plus if the only reason you get a trap was to see somebody die, thats not a good enough reason to have one present. there should always be a meaning for the traps or a greater purpose for the story. i actually liked billy crashing through the window cuz i wasnt expecting that, too bad the rest of the film didnt continue with not being so predictable

the 3d was horribly used, it looks so lame in 2d and there should have been versions of those scenes made without the 3d-coming at ya effects for the regular dvd/blu ray releases. i really wish the producers didnt decide to put their money into the 3d gimmick so late in the game or at all and put that money and time it took to use the new equipment towards making a better story and filling in some more gaps

i understand the studio must have felt like green lighting 2 last films would have been hard money-wise but they could have at least made this film a good 2 hours. another half hour of story and pacing with scenes that made sense to be included would have done this film some serious good. the ending does feel tacked on. gordons reveal is spoiled in the first scene in the film and theres no suspense about it. more like 'i knew it', even tho you really didnt suspect it in the other films. the actual story shouldnt have been about following bobby through a building (something we've seen already) where nobody survives their games and his wife dies (that wasnt right). in the original script at leas they had bobby mourning about how he couldnt save anybody, in this, as soon as shes dead, we dont see him anymore and its just not right. theres no meaning to it. the main story wasnt focused on with hoffman trying to get to jill enough. that felt tacked on and not as important as it should have been (i blame gibsons character for that).

if this film was allowed to breath more on disc (i understand the studio wants as many showing in the cinema as possible so they would ultimately cut it down) much like saw 3 where there was an extended ending and more scenes (not just gore), it would have been better. i dismissed the theatrical viewing in 3d much like i saw the others cuz there was typically something more to expect from the commercial release and i really thought the studio cared more about this series then to just toss it away the way they did. but i was wrong. i dont understand the need to not allow these films to go past that 90 minute mark to begin with, but the others it worked for.

for the last piece, gordon should have been fleshed out more, and john should have been present more if not just to aid in the explanation of dr gordons return. instead of using what would most likely have been 2 good last sequels from the writiers that have been keeping me interested for the past few years, the studio crammed all the wrong parts of 2 good scripts into one lame one that leaves a sour flavor on my tongue about the whole series now. i feel like it was pointless to have been so into them for years. and instead of getting a really satisfying ending that made me feel the way i did when saw 6 ended, we get a throwaway ending that feels cheap and rushed

well I dug it... didn't see it in theaters... but I took it for what it was.. and I liked it.

That makes sense, but also did you notice that it made the sets look fake like in the police studio?

My problem was the traps just werent interesting and the people in them were even less. Like you said in the past movies the traps and victums had meaning and pushed to the ultimate conclusion, in this there was nothing, it went no where.

I would have felt so cheated if I saw that in 3D at the movies. I could maybe 3 shots that used the effect but outside of that it was totally unneeded. Maybe they sould have used the 3D money and put it towards a writer who could come up with a good story.

Im actually surprised that jigsaws screen time went down more in this one seeing it was the last one. I know there might be a better story layign around but its all coulda shoulda woulda because this is the finished product. The ending just didnt add up to what came before it and even gordon helping jigsaw made no sense, there was no reason for gordon to help him.

So, um...

Is there any survivor in this series that didn't start helping Jigsaw besides Crash from Crash and the Boys?

eric matthews' son survived, technically corbett (jefss daughter) survived even tho she wasnt in a trap and everybody else died.

I actually thought they were going to show that it was him and somebody else helping Gordon at the end. In the support group you could see him sitting there being quiet quite clearly. I couldnt place that black woman though, not the one from scream queens, the other one she started arguing with. But every other character at the group I recognized immediately

Saw this a couple days ago. It was cool seeing Dr. Gordon come back, and I didn't even mind that he was the apprentice (kind of expecting that) but he should have at least been in it more. Sean Patrick Flanery and Costas Mandylor did what they could to carry the film, but that internal affairs cop was dead weight. One of the worst performances I've ever seen on film. That scene where's he's talking to Jigsaw's wife was so laughably bad it almost felt like a joke. "YEAH! I KNOW YOU! YOU CRAZY!" or whatever the f**k he said. When a decent actor like Cary Elwes shows up to help out (because, let's face it, he needs the work) you should use him more. The best scenes of the film were the ones he was in, few though they were.

Yeah, that IA cop got on my nerves.

I'm glad he got smoked.

I wish they would have explained more, but VI didn't make enough money, although it should have.
