pider-Man's adventure begins once again, but this time Drake Bell steps up to the plate as the voice of the Webslinger in "Ultimate Spider-Man," coming to Disney XD in 2012! Spider-Man has seen many different kinds of worlds and powers, so you may wonder what this new Spider-Man has to bring to the plate. You wouldn't be alone since it was only last week, at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, that Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb introduced Bell as the new voice of Spider-Man. We spoke with Bell to ask him about what fans can expect from "Ultimate Spider-Man" and his experience with voicing Spidey!

See Spidey in "Ultimate Spider-Man" coming in 2012! Marvel.com: Spider-Man’s had a number of animated incarnations over the years, but how would you describe the Peter Parker we meet in this series?
Drake Bell: I like that in this one, he's a little closer to the original...a total science geek. So instead of the webs coming out of his wrists like some of the more recent [versions of Spider-Man], he actually builds a mechanism to shoot webbing. He's really inventive.
Marvel.com: How familiar were you with Spider-Man before taking on this role?
Drake Bell: Very! I always loved comic books when I was growing up, and Spider-Man was definately a character I gravitated towards because I loved the story of an average teenager having super powers. Usually people my age were portrayed as the sidekick, but Spider-Man wasn't the sidekick--he was the hero!
Marvel.com: Were there any particular comic series or stories you read in preparation for this role?
Drake Bell: None specifically. I just went back and re-read a lot of the Spider Man comics I grew up on.
Marvel.com: What have the recording sessions been like so far? What’s it been like collaborating with the rest of the cast and producers?
Drake Bell: The sessions have been amazing. I've been able to work with some incredible voice talent, most of whom I grew up hearing in my favorite cartoons. Working with the writers, director, and producers has been very helpful with bringing the cartoon to life when you're just standing in a vocal booth.
Marvel.com: What would you say is your favorite aspect of the series?
Drake Bell: I'm just incredibly excited about seeing all the voices put to picture.
Marvel.com: Which of Spider-Man’s powers would you most like to have in real life?
Drake Bell: Definitely super strength! It would be nice to not worry about going to the gym anymore!
"Ultimate Spider-Man" swings onto Disney XD in 2012. Stay tuned to Marvel.com for more on the series in the coming months!

One episode has a portal opens up and a alien from another world comes through and fights spidey. This alien is named Darth Maul.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1722512/

according to IMDb, Drake Bell, Vincent Martella, and Josh Keaton are voicing Spider-Man. Anyone got any info on the reason to have multiple Spider-Man voices? Eddie shouldn't be voiced by Topher Grace either...

It's seriously doubtful he read that many Spider-Man comics in preparation. I'd be surprised if he'd read more than one, to be honest.

I don't see why he would read what ever he can find on spidey to get a feel for the role better. Heck keaton did it I believe same did tobey when he was sign as spiderman.

As for the imdb page it probably hasn't been corrected. Vincent we all thought was playing the role. Which we now know isn't true and bell is the lead. And same with keaton rumors he was in the show but wasn't true. Imdb is usually wrong with castings to upcoming projects.

If he's smart, which he is, he'll read Ultimate Spider-Man. It's possible to read all of those in a week or two, unlike TAS which is hundreds of issues.

Or he could just buy all the essentials/complications books of every series.

It'd be pointless as preparation to read hundreds of stories, since he's doing Ultimate Spider-Man.

Seesh doesn't mean bell can be well rounded on the character as a whole. Like I said before who's to say this show will end up totally 100% just pre death of peter usm. They will probably be like tssm, take the best stuff from usm/616 and other takes, add in there own twists and there you go.

Drake Bell as in Drake & Josh? o_O The hell....

To think they didn't get some Disney fellow to do it...

He's only doing voice-acting so being super familiar with the character isn't that big of a deal when you get down to it. But if he wants to read all of TAS and US-M, more power to him.

His answers could mean anything....

like i said ya he is only doing vo work, doesnt mean he doesnt have a love of the character or wanted to be more well verse on the character as a whole. Nothing is wrong with him researching and learning everything there is about the character. So if like i said the show adapted storys or traits from any number of books. He would already have a feel for it and be able to play off the story points better.

I hope the same voice of TSSM in USM...Because im from Argentina, i hope...

It sounded like they got Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb) to voice him in the test footage.

Well vincent was propably hired for test footage and when series was given full production status they decided on another actor.

Why is everybody they have doing Spidey's voice from shows that I watch all the time, usually on Nick or Disney?

That's what I'm thinking, because it really sounded like Vincent Martella in the test footage.

which it likely was, and like i said either vincent decided not to do series, or producers decided to go in another direction. Maybe we can ask them some time in the future.

its already been said that Drake is a fan of Spidey and when the hell r ppl gonna learn to stop using IMDB for info on stuff? gawd...

It doesn't matter if he's never laid eyes on a Spider-Man comic in his life. If that was a pre-requisite to give a good performance, then the history of casting in comic book movies and cartoons would be radically different.

True. And an actor familiarizing themselves too much with a character before taking on that role can be detrimental. Not only does it hinder someone's ability to bring their own interpretation, but it confuses matters as a whole.

With voice-acting it doesn't matter so much, though.
