DUI Advice.

When they say "State your name" say "I AM BATMAN!!!" and laugh maniacally.

As funny and awesome as that would be. I'd surely be back infiltrating the criminal facility.

I have been to jail, it was fun.

As for the DUI'er...I have no sympathy for you and you deserve whatever you get. Thank God that you didn't kill anybody or yourself. I hate people that drink and drive. Hope things work out for the best but I don't feel sad.

Oh yeah. I agree 110%. I never meant for anyone to feel sad. Sorry if that is how I came across. This thread was all just for me to hear some personal experiences.

Holy ****. I can go back to jail?

Now I'm freakin' a little bit.

Thanks though Majic.
Generally (talking in Australia) jail time is thrown in as an "option" addition to the actual punishment, say a fine, bond or licence disqualification in a "payment for costs" kind of way.

I.E. "and $500 or 5 days in prison" or something along those lines.

* THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE, PARTICUALRLY NOT FOR OUTSIDE OF AUSTRALIA.

Well, like most people here, I have no sympathy for you being a drunk driver.

But, I am also glad that you seem to genuinely know what you did was wrong, and that you will be taking steps to better yourself.

1. No matter who you are, it never hurts to better yourself.

2. You seem to understand the severity of the situation.

If you are genuine in your posts, then I really do hope the best for you. With your car and license, but even more so with your drinking.

I've always been of the belief that there is nothing wrong with responsible drinking. But if drinking responsibly is just something that you cannot do, then I do hope that you are able to get it under control.

You are blessed to have not harmed anyone, or yourself.

I am blessed that I have never been a drunk driver, nor have I ever been endangered by one. I am of strong enough mind that I am able to know when I can't drive, and I am able to give up the keys.

Not everyone is like that, but I hope you are able to get your drinking issues dealt with.

I got one when I was like 19. I had to go to 20 weeks of DUI classes pay a buncha fines plus the DUI classes were $20 a pop. Your gonna be out a nice chunk a change plus I had my license suspended for 3 months and then I caught a driving on suspended charge lol. But this was back in '03. Where you from anyways?

I spent the night in jail for lying about my age. We were drinking outside of our apartment and a bike cop pulled up and asked to see our id. I didn't have mine on me and I was freaking out. The cop asked my friend how old he was and his name first. He lied and so being drunk, I thought I could get away with it too! He asked me and I said I was 21 and I said the name that I go by and I even gave him my SSN. Well, we were carted off to jail and spent about 10 hours, the night, there and were bailed out by the parents. We got a lawyer that didn't do ****, I hate that rat bastard, and ended up doing 10 hours for the MIP and 40 for the class B false ID. It sucked to be on probabtion for 6 months, had to attend classes and seminars, and do those 40 hours. This is part of the reason I hate cops because not once did that *** hole say to tell him the truth or we would be in bigger trouble. I could have gotten away with an MIP and be done with it but it costed me about 2 grand more in court fees, bailing out, and probation fees. I hate that cop and I hate most cops. They think their power is an extension of their penis and they get off on it. Not all cops are like that but I have seen too many.

I drove drunk earlier. I wasnt to drunk to where I didnt know what was going on and it was only like a 2 mile drive plus my parents were driving behind me the whole time. I can tell when Im too drunk to drive and if I am then I dont drive but if I have a small buzz going and Im not that impaired then Ill drive as long as its a relatively short distance

Believe it or not I got very drunk Saturday night down in a small town called Norman. We were at a more sophisticated party than usual and I decided to start drinking as much as possible. Not knowing my limit has always been my main problem.

I decide to leave to meet up with this girl and sure enough I got pulled over. I don't remember much but they took me to jail. As much as I was trying to say to myself, "You're a goodfella now!" and make the situation seem cool, it wasn't at all.

I spent about a day in jail before finally getting bailed out. I missed work but luckily they were really cool about, "No problem man, that happens sometimes." That's good, but my car is in the impound, I'm really trying to get the cash to get that out.

What I'm mainly worried about is my driver's license. I've never had a DUI before so I'm pretty sure that after court they'll take my license away right? If so is there anyway I can cut a deal so I can still drive to work? I really don't want to lose my job. I was hoping someone here has had a similar experience.

I'm feeling really weird about all this. Normally I'd just brag about being "A bad ass" or whatever. But I easily...EASILY, could have killed someone that night. Someone with a family maybe.

I'm gonna' try my best not to drink at all anymore. I think I might be one of those people who always thinks one beer won't hurt and then after that beer all previous resolutions are thrown out the window.

Anyways, yes, so if anyone would mind sharing some experiences in this matter it would be much appreciated and maybe help me get all of this organized.

Thank you.

(This should mean the end of the stupid drunk threads I post sometimes as well.)

I'm glad that you saw the error of your ways before you injured or killed yourself or someone else. Good luck.

I'm from Oklahoma. I don't mind the fines or a suspended license as long as I can still get to and from work. That's all I'm worried about.

That does suck. Most of the cops I had to deal with were kids I went to highschool with. We're no older than 21. It's really lame because they act like they don't know who I am.

Not saying I want special privilages, but they will be more mean on purpose. And when I was walking out of the station after being set free I asked an old friend about his mother (who loved me) and he just said, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Haha some people man.

That's what you're pissed about? You didn't know that you would be in trouble for lying?

Find out what your BAC was. That will have some influence on how things happen. Also, sign up for an alcohol awareness class, even before the judge orders you to. When he sees you took the initiative it will make you look better to the court and he'll go easier on you.

If you took or refused the breathalyzer either on the side of the road or in the department will also influence whether or not and how badly your driving privileges are revoked.

honestly man... your a jackass... you don't drink and drive... I never do, never will.... girl I knew, killed a man, with a family, while driving drunk.... she got no time in jail, and a fine... which was BS, she killed a man....

your lucky that's all that happened... and next time you think about driving drunk, just lay in the road.... guys like you kill so many people, families, kids a year because your are irresposbile... and if you were my kid, brother, friend... I would kick the **** out of you....

I have a friend here in Ohio who was driving with three or four beers in him over, oh, a three or four hour period. He ended up being the fifth car in a five car pile up on his way home late that night. He tells a story about helicopters arriving on the scene while two cars are on fire, and he's helping a police officer pull a man out of a burning car. He then, because he panicked, refused a breathalyzer, was assumed guilty by the court, and lost his license for a year, paid about $5,000 in court and fines, and was restricted to driving to and from work before he lost his license. He lawyered up, tried to fight it, because the department LOST the video of the encounter, lawyered up again with his own guy, and ended up wasting a lot of money (over $5,000 in just lawyer fees). I really think you can expect to lose your license for at least a year, mandatory alchohol classes, and some serious fines. They may also throw some jail time in there.

I was sympathyzing with you getting busting by a bike cops, until you said you're soured on cops because he didn't tell you lying would get you in more trouble. Now I have no sympathy for what happened and actually laugh at you getting busted by a bike cop. Did you really think getting caught in a lie would help your situation? Here's a hint, next time you get pulled over, don't lay a finger on a cop, that will get you assaulting an officier, just wanted to warn you in case he doesn't.

I didn't know that you would be carted off to jail for lying about my age. I gave him my ssn, he can look up anything he wanted. I didn't have my id on me and I didn't have my license number memorized. The dude could have said, you don't look 21, tell me the truth and save your self a trip to jail. No, he said okay, hold on a sec and he called a squad car. ****ing ***hole that guy was.

HAHA people don't get pulled over by bike cops. I was at a party and I was sitting outside. Also, I was drunk and my friend lied, being drunk makes you do some stupid stuff. But, he still could have said to not lie.

His job is not to help you get out of trouble though, his job is to enforce the law. I dig that it would've been nice to know what was going to happen before you made a choice but... and I hate to sound like a *****e, you should've known better.

Its not a cops job to keep people out of trouble but that guy was an *******, and it has nothing to do with you telling the truth or not.

Why the hell would you give him your real Social Security Number, but a fake name? You were the f'ing a'hole, not him.

It's funny I got caught in a somewhat similar situations two or three times during college and never got so much as a ticket because I did tell the truth.

I was outside my old apartment once and was drinking when I was still underage with a friend. A cop drives through and steps out of his car and walks up to us, he says, "Hey put that inside your apartment, I'd hate to have to arrest you for drinking in public."

I said okay and was so nervous he was going to ask my age next I started trying to talk to him about TDK. At which point you could tell he really wanted to see it and he said, "No not yet," smiled and walked away.

I go to the first court thing tomorrow. I don't think I have time to sign up for AA meeting before hand to show the court I'm serious about all this muck.

You wont be sentenced tomorrow though. Thats not going to be for a while. Sign up for and complete the classes (not AA meetings - alcohol classes) before your sentencing. The judge will make you do it anyway so this way you get it over with and it also shows remorse and initiative. Also, find out what your bac was.

lol'd at you panicking and talking about the dark knight

You won't go to jail unless someone was hurt or you caused property damage or something. You'll likely get either a 3 month suspension or 6-7 month license suspension depending on where you live and what you BAC is. You also have to pay fines which amount to something like 1000 a year for three years as well as increase in insurance(which usually last 3-5 years).

You generally cannot plea down a DUI to a normal traffic offense. So whatever the general guideline is sentence wise is what you will probably get (fine and License suspension).

They will postpone your court date generally for a month later.

Yea your going to be going to court alot. Here in KY at least where Im at youll go to court over and over and over. When I caught my felony like 4 years ago it was 8 months before I got my final sentencing and actually went to jail. The court system is a slow mofo

I didn't give him a fake name...read what I said. I lied about my age.

What!!! You never got a ticket for telling the truth!!! Who woulda thunk:dry: I like cops that are straight with you. Not everyone, especially a teenage freshman, knows every law on the books. I never knew lying to a cop about your age would get you thrown in jail and he could have been nice and informed us about that. Lying is bad and I am sure cops need to do everything they can to find the truth, but being mum to cart of two teenagers to jail is being an ***. We were sitting in lawn chairs in our front yard...not running from the cops or in a bar. So, I think he was too harsh but I did deserve the MIP.
