DUI Advice.

Thanks PAPA! Please raise my allowance.
Not for my sake, I don't have to put up with you, but for your own and for your parents who had to bail you out.

Particularly for your own sake, though.

WTF!? This already happened. I learned my lesson. Why do I need you telling me not to do it again?
Because I don't know that you did... instead of directing blame solely where it should have laid, you instead looked to deflect it and blame it on the police officer for not going into what possibly, theoretically, if-the-stars-all-aligned, could have happened if you were dumb enough to break the law again.

You're essentially blaming the officer for having more faith in your common sense than you have...

So it is common sense not to own more than 6 *****s here?

I paid for my mistake out of my own pocket, my parents made me pay them back so once again, you weren't in my situation so quit lecturing me on it. K thanks.

*Sigh*

Again. I'm not arguing that some officers go out of their way to stir up **** and be *******s.

I'm saying that that's not what seemed to be the case in your specific instance.

Again, I've even said that earlier myself in one of the first two posts that addressed you here...

Regardless of whether you paid them back or not, your actions still led to your parents having to go down and bail you out.

This "lecture" only happened because you chose to b#### and whine about a police officer who was doing his job, who you chose to lie to (despite knowing that in doing so you would be breaking another law on top of the one you had already broken).

I did not know that lying about your age was a jailable offense, which is analogous to the sex toy example. Had that clerk knew that it was a felony, she probably would have taken them down. Had I known that I would have went to jail on top of my MIP, I wouldn't have lied. That is it. It seems I cannot say that enough, which is why I tried to stop debating. Agree to disagree.

They didn't have to go anywhere. They made a call at 11 am on a Saturday. Once again, please quit acting like you know the situation. I am out of here....g'night.

I would say that had she known it was illegal she would have taken them down, rather than had she known the penalty regarding it.

Most people don't go out of their way to operate in spite of the law...

Which makes that a poor example. You knew there would be consequences, you'd just convinced yourself that they likely wouldn't have been serious enough for it to be a bad idea.

Fine. Then they had to make a call which they otherwise wouldn't have had to make and then be out of pocket until you paid them back.

Well...I'm not touchin' that.

Okay. Yeah every other tim ein my life when I got in trouble I always felt "bad ass" This was the first time I really felt like I belonged in jail. It's hard to imagine waking up in jail and hearing, "Mr. Babbit, you ran into a car last night and killed 3 people including a baby."

I Mos Def learned my lesson.

So after my final sentencing WHEN they do suspend my license. Is there any way to get a permit or something that will allow me to still drive to work?

I couldn't tell you that you WILL get one, but I know down here several people apply and CAN get them. They wind up with conditions such as "only to drive from [work address] to [home address]".

I can't say you'd necessarily get given one, but it can't hurt to ask. particularly since you've come across as someone who truly regrets his actions and for the right reasons.

* THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE.

Yeah but truly regretting and making a court believe that might prove to be more difficult. Espeically since I'm sure they get people everyday plastering on fake smiles and stories.

Pre-taking those classes is a good idea though.

It also depends on circumstance. Most folk who have obtained such privaleges down here HAVE TO DRIVE FOR work, and not just too there.

They may ask why you wouldn't be able to just take a bus.

* THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE.

Yeah that's true. Do busses run at night? Like when I got off work?
Heh. No idea. That's leg-work on your part, unless you at least want to narrow down as to where you live (even then I'd tell you to get off your slack arse and check yourself :cwink::oldrazz:)

Really depends on your area. The buses here basically stop dead around 9pm, but that's because it's LA and our public transportation system is utter crap.

Look up the bus systems in your area. Like, when you drive around (before your court date and license is suspended :funny: ), take a look at the bus signs and insignias. All of them should have a website that can tell you routes and timetables.

And even here in LA, the land of crap public transportation, I know what bus systems run here because I look around and see signs and stops and benches. And buses ever once in a while. :funny:

Dude, I'll just get a camera and camp outside the Pizza Hut and make a documentary.

There's a cat that lives around those parts who I have befriended. It only allows me to pet it.

I'm pretty ****ing nervous about that court date. I feel sick.

I CAN'T STAY IN A CAGE!

Some states do allow you to get a day license which allow you to drive during your work hours....not all states though.

Generally they'll suspend you license the day of your follow up court date and you will have to make arrangements to get home from the court house.

There are better things for officers to do than lock up kids with beer who lie about their age because they're scared of going to jail. Especially if they're just standing around and not doing anything. Thats like some dude jay-walking and getting thrown in the slammer. "You KNEW you werent supposed to be jaywalking!". Sure, but was the offense really worth the trouble. No, not really. Just give him a scare and a warning, or a citation, and go catch some real criminals to throw in prison.

They may or may not suspend your license. What was your BAC? Did you take the breathalyzer? These things will influence if its suspended and how badly. And if it does get suspended, you'll need a note from work explaining that you need your car to get there and do your job.

no, it WILL be suspended... never heard of one case where it hasn't been....

you will be allowed to have an occupancial license.... work and back, and school if needed...

but your looking a 6 month suspension, driving class, maybe an alcohol class, and major fines... plus increased insurnace coverage (may be dropped from your current one depending on other tickets)

I'm not sure what my BAC was. I remember taking the test and the guy telling me, but I can't remember what he said.

Chaseter,

Sounds to me like the cop gave you a chance to fess up, and probably would have let you off with a warning, had you simply told the truth. You were stupid and lied about your age, which he already obviously knew, so he taught you a lesson, which is what being arrested for breaking the law is designed to do.

Basically what you keep saying is "I did not know that I could get in trouble if I got caught lying about my underage drinking". Are you serious?

As for the ***** thing...people, the law is the law. If you operate a lingerie shop in Texas, you should darn well know the laws about ***** sales in Texas, the nature of which have pretty high profile over the years.

Better things to do like what?

It is an officer's job to uphold the law. Period. If an officer sees the law being broken, it is an officer's job to investigate, and then to take steps to ensure that it does not happen again.

I personally know of 2. In both the BAC wasn't that high and the cop made errors on the police report leading the magistrate to not suspend the license. The only way your license will be suspended without exception is if you refused a breathalyzer test. Otherwise its depends on a number of things. So no it will NOT always be suspended.

This is not counting the temporary license you get after they confiscate your license during the arrest, I mean the actual official ruling on your driving privileges.

I'm not sure what my BAC was. I remember taking the test and the guy telling me, but I can't remember what he said.

Find out. Its very important.

Better things to do like what?

Gee I don't know, arresting robbers, drug-dealers, rapists, killers, arsonists, etc. etc. etc. who are all 100x more dangerous to society than some scared kid sipping a beer outside his apartment.

haha

Yeah, ok, thats why 80% of people on the highway are 15 over the speed limit and never get stopped, because cops are supposed to uphold the law down to the letter, no matter the circumstance with no exception whatsoever.

I say use personal discretion. I this case, most NORMAL cops would decide that this guy was not worth throwing the slammer and hitting him with thousands of $ in court costs just because he lied about some underage drinking.

If he wanted to uphold the law so bad he could have given him a ticket. This was pretty excessive considering the 'severity' of the offense.
