Sci-Fi Dune

The only thing I wasn't crazy about with this trailer was the song choice, but the rest of it looked awesome to me, especially The Worms which look every bit as terrifying and epic as I imagined them to be and damn do I love the look of this cast. I really missed that Hans Zimmer score not being in this trailer though and honestly those teaser clips yesterday got me way more excited for this movie than this trailer did.

Denis is going to kill it regardless though, because I'm sure the movie is going to be great.

The reason Eclipse by Pink Floyd was used was because it's a nod to Jodorosky's Dune where Jodorosky wanted to have the band score the movie at one point. I wouldn't be too surprised if that song choice her was Denis' idea. Also, if you look up the meaning of the song's lyrics as explained by Roger Walters, it's obvious foreshadowing for what becomes of Paul later on in the series. It's honestly REALLY brilliant once you know all this.

Definitely my most anticipated movie, whenever it does end up coming out, but I wasn't completely "wowed" by the trailer. Still looks great and I'm sure it will be.

Just really looking forward to it

I’m surprised they still have it slated for release this year. This movie is going to have a very difficult time being profitable in these pandemic times especially since Villeneuve isn’t as big a name as Chris Nolan, and doesn’t have nearly as strong a box office record(Blade Runner 2049 flopped for example.

Timothy fanboys/girls > Gosling fanboys/girls, it’s as easy as that.

Edited, sorry for assuming.

Trailer is very impressive. I could already see that Villeneuve made a close adaptation of Herbert's book. I haven't read it in a long time but some of the scenes in the trailer already brought back some memories of the book passages. Although Lynch's film is fine, it's never a close adaptation. Mostly, I like the opening narratation by Princess Irulan:

The Harkonnens do look pretty damn menacing, especially Bautista who is already a scary looking dude without all the makeup. At least he has always been to me anyways.

I didnt know the book or the first movie of Dune. Cinematography looks on point here, visuals are impressive.

I just fear a little bit it would be too epic and big for my taste, but if I trust only one directer, its Villeneuve.

He definitely can be. And Stellan Skarsgard to me has always been creepy, at least when he wants to be.

Great reaction gif.

So it ends up being a flop like Blade Runner 2049?

Not sure if you’re implying Blade Runner 2049 was a flop because of its marketing or you mentioned it because of the other sci-fi flops I referenced. Either way, Blade Runner 2049 didn’t flop nearly as badly as the other two films I mentioned. I just worry that Dune will follow a similar track with Denis wishing to continue the story but not being able to.

Nothing wowed me in the trailer except for the worm and the color grading is dull, like the early brown/gray generation of PS3 and Xbox 360 video games.

As a fan of Villeneuve's work it has a good chance that I'll end up liking it regardless.

There's also the issue that this movie is also half a story just like Alita: Battle Angel and if it flops another won't be made and the current theatrical environment is not good in the world and especially the U.S. right now.

Not sure the general audience will like how serious the movie is if the trailer and the rest of Villeneuve's filmography is anything to go by.

Yet it did little for the movie's BO.

IIRC BR2049 did basically the same as Blade Runner adjusted for inflation.

New Dune probably would have done the same adjusted as old Dune, but in pandemic world it's even more difficult.

already some calling for 'boycott' because wrong people were 'casted' lol
