Sci-Fi Dune

That worm at the end seems small in diameter. Small for a sandworm. I wonder if thats a juvenile and they are saving
Shai-hulud's
reveal for the film?

The one that swallowed the harvester is bigger. They vary in sizes.

Personal preference --I don't like Tarantino films very much. lol

Cameron IMO is in similar spot as Spielberg and he has done very little directing works -- dude is all about Avatar in the last 10 years lol. His films while very popular, are not that good.

Bong Joon Ho --Parasite, Okja, Snowpiercer & The Host, are all excellent modern films.

Had a look at the list, it should be:

Scorsese
Nolan
Fincher
Bong Joon Ho
Villenueve
PTA
Aronofonsky
Tarantino

Yeah Cameron has little but I enjoyed almost all of his films at the moment,

Yeah Cameron has little but I enjoyed almost all of his films at the moment, and Spielberg has a lot of great films but his lastest aren't that great probably.

I might check some of these films and I would agree with that list.

I like Villenueve but since I really liked Interstellar and TDKR, I think Nolan is better.

Stronger and more films, better characters (I mean Joker and Cobb are better than any Villenueve character), more genre and interesting concepts and far higher rewatch ability, but it's debatable as Cameron's work being better than Nolan or Denis so I won't tag you for that xD

Tenet vs Dune will close the gap if the latter is better,

Atreides culture feels very Oriental. Costumes feel inspired by Imperial Japan. Fish motifs, some interiors, Thufir having a Japanese paper umbrella...

Though here Jessica wears something mid-Eastern:

Freaking gorgeous.

Quinn is the hypest Dune fan on internet. The first I watched after the trailer was his reaction.

I’m quite intrigued by how close to the vest they seem to be playing with Harkonnen. I’d have figured he would be all over this first trailer.

They're hiding Piter. I think he's the only character in the movie we didn't see yet. Even Jamis got in the frame.

I think the reason they didn't give us much of opposing forces (the Emperor and Harkonnens) is because they didn't want to overcrowd the promo. It's already was quite busy. They just focused on Atreides and their goals. No spice, no detail on political intrigue. I think future promos might focus on opposition.

What is with the endless Nolan vs. Villeneuve comparisons in here? Very different filmmakers with very different filmographies, different strengths and weaknesses.

I think this looks too dour and depressing like Blade Runner for the general public

That's a debate that's being going on since years, the majority prefers Nolan but some like Villenueve more. I think that people who hate TDKR will say villenueve probably, the rest Nolan?

Also, X being better than Y doesn't mean that Y is bad, both are great.

I think Villeneuve is better in general. Much more emotionally engaging to me and I feel that he handles characters and delivers messages better. For example, there is a message about love in Interstellar and Blade Runner 2049 but I think the latter has a more subtle and nuanced way of doing it through K's relationships with Joi, Luv and Joshi and I think it's more effective. Of course it's more central to Interstellar while it's just an aspect of the overall theme of 2049, but I think that speaks to my point even more.

I find Nolan to often be technically great (I think he was uncharacteristically sloppy in the Batman films) and he has had some intellectually interesting ideas, but I don't think he manages to make me feel the films as well as Villeneuve so sometimes my reaction is "that's interesting" instead of full immersion. He's certainly more mainstream than Denis now and even if Dune is a success I think that will remain the case.

I certainly agree that just because you think one is better than the other doesn't mean that the lesser one is bad at all. I'm just throwing an opinion out there as the subject was on the table.

Just reading the detailed script summary including paired artwork of Jodo’s Dune. Wow, while it would have been quite inaccurate to the book, the visuals would have been revolutionary. The scale looks so so incredible! I hope animated version can be made one day

Yeah. Every single one of those IP’s are popular with the general public. Every single one of those comparisons are terrible.

Despite what this forum seemingly thinks, Dune is not a brand like Batman and Star Wars.
And it wasn't the point of comparison. Dour or not dour - it has little to do with what people end up liking or being interested in.
