Sci-Fi Dune

It is a character defining element. The reader and Jessica herself doesn't know her lineage before Paul prophetic vision told her so and this happens late in the book. Harkonnen or Jessica can have a Dutch accent but not both and she was not raised on Giedi Prime anyway.
Fair enough.

I know Denis said he will start pre production on this after he was done on BR2049 but he also said he's made 4 back to back movies(Prisoners,Sicario,ARRIVAL and BR2049) and want's a bit of rest. So my guess is that he won't start properly working on the movie maybe till the summer.

I thought Denis was gonna do another movie with Gyllenhaal first, also he's in talks for Cleopatra? I'm not sure where Dune fits into all of this scheduling. I have a feeling he may want to ground himself again after doing a sci fi and do something less strenuous.

Dune he's going to start working on it now he said. The movie is being written and Cleopatra will be re developed while hes' directing Dune. 'The Son" is maybe not ready, they still have no one attached to the screenplay.

Dune is like sci-fi Game of Thrones VV. Just imagine it like that.

Oh sorry! I meant the story.

Without spoiling anything. The far future, Earth is but forgotten, human race has spread on the universe and there was a war against the thinking machines ( computers ), therefore humans has to evolve to replace the computers, it is a feudal universe and the most precious substance is the spice ( it gives longevity and much more ) and it can only be found in one planet, Arrakis aka Dune.
Edit : and yes, like Got, there are Houses vs Houses conflict, mainly, the Atreides vs the Harkonnen and the Corino ( the ruling House) between them.

All I want to know if Villeneuve is gonna direct this, is there room for Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Gosling to star? Cos man I would explode if he directed those two in a film together.

Yes, Dune is an ensemble movie. Like I said imagine GOT. You can have numerous good actors in this universe. Also Legendary want to do TV spin offs and sequels. You can't fit Dune into ONE 2 hour movie.

Unless I'm mistaken, Legendary bought the rights to TV and movie adaptations, nothing is set about what they want or what they will do beside a movie(s).

Yes they did but that's why I said they want to do that. The first one has to be good though.

But my main point was you can have numerous good actors in this universe. There's room for all.

Agreed but so far my main concerns are how the story will be told, what the designs will be, what the visuals will be. The best actors in the world will not make do for a bad story adaptation of Dune or bad visuals/set/costumes.

The first movie had a lot of good actors but most people I know didn't like it. I enjoyed it but I like a few things others have panned.

I guess the people you know and didn't like it had read the book(s), didn't they ?

Myself, I saw the movie before reading the books. Retrospectively, I think I would not have liked the movie if I had read the book before but when the movie came out, I was still a kid, not mature enough to read such masterpiece ( unless you are one of those super kids to grasp the meaning of it when you are 10 y/o ).

I like Dune film, but not as a book adaptation, just on it's own. Like a unique piece of 80s cinema.

The book deserves better. No idea how they're going to adapt it, given the amount of characters and detail. Maybe as a 2-part epic. Each up to 3 hours long.

If Villeneuve has the will, power and heart to it as Jackson did for LotR, it's doable.
Nothing is impossible until someone do it.

I just have a hard time visualizing fantasy type worlds so seeing the movie first made the reading easier for me.

Dune isn't fantasy, it's pure science fiction, but this is an endless discussion for another thread I guess.
