Sci-Fi Dune

Welles was Jodorowsky‘s pick for the Barón as well (he was going to pay him with fine dining).

My pick for Villeneuve’s film is Stellan Skarsgard.

Whats this?

About halfway through Children of Dune, Farad'n brought up Duncan Idaho's death on Arrakis where he took down 19 Sardaukar before his eventual demise. It would be awesome if Denis or Eric Roth acknowledges that for the movie.

Brian Herbert
@DuneAuthor

We have the first draft of the DUNE screenplay from Eric Roth. I am working on it day and night, consulting closely with Kevin. We expect to send our comments to Legendary by this weekend. Lots of good stuff in the script, and things to be tweaked. I'm happy to be involved.

sigh

While their work on Dune has certainly gotten better, I would rather not have Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson actively involved in the script.

Well you probably couldn't find two people alive who are more knowledgeable in Dune than Brian and Kevin, whether you like their writing or not.
I'm happy they are involved...it doesn't sound like they are doing the actual writing of the script but more consulting on it.

In a way, I don't mind them acting as consultants too I suppose, much like how Douglas Gresham, C.S. Lewis' stepson has been involved in the Narnia films of late. Fingers crossed The Silver Chair will be a return to form for that franchise.

Denis wants to shoot with IMAX cameras. :wow:

DV: I don’t like 3-D. I do love the Dolby Atmos Systems, I think it’s fantastic. I would love to shoot a movie in IMAX, because that’s where the future is, with those big screens. You don’t have the impact of a screen like that in your living room. To have the power of that vision is something that I’m really attracted to because I love to shoot for the big screen.

I’ve read that you’re working on doing a Dune movie next. Is that something that you want to shoot in IMAX or in VR?

DV: Dune will definitely be made for IMAX. I think that it will be insane to shoot that movie in that technology. That’s my dream right now. I’m totally focused on Dune right now. Obsessed — I dream about it all the time. I don’t know if it’s going to be possible, I don’t know if I will make the movie. I don’t know if we will all agree on the screenplay, I don’t know. Maybe in six months I will be unemployed, but for now I’m dreaming about Dune.

ugg those last three sentences though...

Well he's right to be cautious. The script is being written. If he doesn't like the script, he ain't gonna be working on it. We have to remember they're working from the ground up. Everything that was on the table before LEGENDARY came on board was scrapped.

He's also done some storyboards and has began early pre production. Safe to say he's not expecting script he doesn't like.

I'd love to see an expansion of 70mm IMAX screens, and more utilization of 70mm IMAX cameras for Hollywood films.

If they are able to produce a quieter camera, all bets are off.

I'd love that too.
If they **** this up and cause Denis to leave this project someone or someones needs a swift ass beating.
Absolutely.

Dune is not a simple and easy to make. Also, the material is NOT audience friendly. And what I mean by that is that it's not friendly to a mainstream moviegoing audience that likes to generally go to the movies over the weekend to watch superhero or Pixar films.

Just saying. Blade Runner 2049, very good film, but audiences didn't really care for it.

I'd say just go for it. I want to see more movies like Blade Runner 2049 in theaters. Sure it could be made for TV because there's less risk, but even if it's impractical, these movies should still exist. Take a chance. Granted, play it smart. Maybe there is a way to lower the budget and not have it cost so much as BR did. But we wouldn't have had movies like LOTR if they didn't take that risk in the first place. LOTR didn't cost $200 million. Villenueve can match Jackson in his passion and filmmaking, so I think it can happen.

I think they should reuse the old cast.
