Sci-Fi Dune

Science ficiton, science fantasy, or alien movies.
Denis is really looking to stack this thing with A-listers.

Good news. Pugh going places.

Some sites are saying it's a done deal, while others are just suggesting talks.

UGH.

I'm assuming it's happening if there's this much noise around it. Aside from the chance to work with Denis on a sequel to a Best Picture nominated film, she's also friends with Chalamet.

Irulan is supposed to be around 14. No way the Emperor would have an eligible unmarried daughter Puhg's age.

What?

1. She is supposed to be Paul's age, if not older.
2. That is a complete misreading of the political situation. Irulan and her sisters could have been in their 50s, and he would not have had them married off. Marriage to Irulan especially wasn't some simple alliance between a Great House and the Emperor. It was the path to the Lion Throne. Which was why Shaddam's Bene Gesserit wife specifically only had daughters.

The only weird thing is that this will be the second movie in which Pugh marries Timmy C.

I double checked and she is 16 during the events of Dune. Despite Tim's age I think he's meant to be playing Paul in his teens which I can believe due to Tim's lanky build. With Pugh I just dont see her being a convincing teenage girl. Anya Taylor Joy might have been better.

She pulled it off in Little Women. Euphoria and The Dropout show that dressing down these late 20's actresses is easy to make look 14-18.

I thought Chalemet was playing his age in Dune. He’s in his mid 20s right? I didn’t really think he was a teenager in the movie (if he was, I missed where they stated it).

They don’t state it, but he’s definitely supposed to be pre-18 (aka not a man). Called a boy a few times. That plays into the next one where we should actually see a physical difference as he becomes a man. So Chalamet hopefully will bulk up for it. Villeneuve has said he has a plan in place for that.

She's in Nolan film (Oppenheimer) and will be in Villeneuve's film. Good on her.

I watched Little Women (2019) for the first time today. Pugh and Chalamet definitely have the chemistry.

FYI, Paul is 15 years old at the start of the first book. His age in the film is never stated as far as I recall.

He's 18 after the timeskip. Also, he and Irulan never make sex.

Pugh is the same age as Chalamet; I don’t see a problem. I know he looks younger than his age but he doesn’t really look like a 15-year-old so I don’t think we have to be too strict about actors’ ages here.
This, especially since they are aging up Chalamet for the sequel. Really like this (potential) casting!

I can't tell if some of you have read the books?

She's not actually his "lady" or anything.

Irulan is essentially Paul's "beard" - while she's not exactly happy with the situation, initially... she figures out how to take advantage of it. And, Paul comes around to her for political help. She ends up having a really interesting and neat arc. Especially when it comes to Children Of Dune, seeing how important and loyal she becomes for House Atreides.

She's not exactly his beard. She's his legal "wife." It's a political marriage out of circumstance because he doesn't love her. He marries Irulan to assume the throne and become Emperor.

Sorry, couldn't think of another term for a Fake Wife.

The conversation was more about them being the same age and chemistry between actors, I didn't see anything about her being his "lady". :)
