Sci-Fi Dune

Oh yeah there's a big chance he will be working on the movie. But sometimes I think it's good to try other flavours of the spectrum you know.

We know they both make a top class pair and their movies look great. I mean if Roger works on DUNE, then what about the CLEOPATRA movie Denis is developing? I would think those epic shots, of that would look awesome with Roger behind the lens.

I'd rather see Deakins on Dune myself than Cleopatra :o

Haha, normally I'd agree with you but on this I have to be selfish...I want Deakins for Dune.

And yes a Deakins filmed Cleopatra would be gorgeous, though I'm more doubtful of that ever getting made than I am of this movie. It really just breaks down to who Denis finds right for the film, just a wait and see.

Doc old news my friend. We Duneners of the Hype have been aware of this for the couple weeks or so.

And a new suggestion for Princess Irulan. Elizabeth Debicki. She's described as tall, blonde and green-eyed and Debicki, minus the eye colour, does look the part to me. Although, given that she's 6'2" could she be a little too tall?! She's definitely an up and coming actress so this role could work in her favour...

I want this cause i love the director's works and perfect to make a Dune 2 parter film since it's the kind of book to film adaptation that should be done like Lord of the Rings in a way just like how Jackson brought those novels to life as a 3 part trilogy.

I disliked both the David Lynch monstrosity and the mini-series as the books i enjoyed since i was 12 when i first read them and been a huge sci-fi fan.

I could see that choice.

Saoirse Ronan is currently at the top of my list for Irulan.

Yeah, Saoirse Ronan would be a great choice as well. :)

It depends on what age they want to depict the characters. At the start of Dune, Paul is 15 years old. Irulan is probably a comparable age.

According to the Dune Timeline, Irulan is 13 years older than Paul, which is why I suggested Debicki. Ronan isn't far off either though.

Well movies always play around with the ages and timelines. Previous adaptations always seem to make them a similar age.

Yeah, I'd cast all three, Paul, Irulan and Chani, at about the same age. Makes the most sense especially once the story moves into Messiah.

Really it all falls on the casting of Paul. It'll make or break the film to me.

Timothee Chalamet - Paul
Armie Hammer - Feyd-Rautha
Sean Bean - Gurney Halleck
Oscar Isaac - Duncan Idaho
Vincent D'Onofrio - Baron Harkonnen
Michael Pitt - Piter De Vries

I can live with the idea of Timothée Chalamet as Paul, but don't you think Armie Hammer is a little too old for Feyd?!

I'd pick Tom Holland as Paul. He's already capable of doing the OP fighting abilities that Paul gets later on.

Probably, but you the chemistry is too good to pass up.

A few adjustments.

Dr. Yueh - Benicio Del Toro (think about it) ;)
Thufir Hawat - Bill Nighy
Gurney Halleck - Liam Neeson
Duncan Idaho - Christian Bale (though he appears to have filled out lately so I'm sure he'll get into shape given the opportunity)
Duke Leto Atreides - Richard Armitage (he has some gravitas and intensity which would lend to the character quite nicely)
Count Hasimir Fenring - Terence Stamp
Piter De Vries - Cilian Murphy

I also thought about Pedro Pascal as Duncan too after seeing his Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones a few seasons back.

Denis who's at the moment in Cannes as a jury member has said they've completed the first draft of a script and pre production will begin shortly. My guess is in the fall.

I'm pretty excited for this, hopefully they don't have to play it so secret like they did with BR. As it's an adaptation not exactly a new story that has spoiler potential. Hoping he gets Deakins involved cause at least then you know the movie will at the very least be stunning.
