Sci-Fi Dune

I agree. And I think one person who will probably be a bigger name is Leto.

I would have said Timothy Spall, but he's really slimmed down.

Yea he lost all his weight when he had cancer a while back.

Could still fatten him up a la Oldman as Churchill though, Oldman's no bigger than Spall. And I could see Spall being a good choice. Plus he's more a character actor than a "name".

Shame, didn't know he had cancer. Hopefully he beat it. He would be good in the role.

Other than him...

Maybe Robbie Coltrane?

He's in remission, supposedly. Hopefully that's true, he looks awfully thin sometimes. He had acute leukemia :csad:.

D'Onofrio isn't a bad idea. If you could bulk up Keaton, that might be fun. Brolin or Del Toro could both work well, and have worked with Denis before.

Cate Blanchett as Lady Jessica :D

This is the only choice. You know it is.

Blanchett and Villeneuve were on the Cannes jury together in May, he had plenty of time to schmooze her into a role. :woot:

Chalamet is good casting as Paul, I've only read the first book though so my knowledge of the characters isn't vast. Definitely keeping my eye on this film, knowing Villeneuve it will be something special even if it's not mega-successful, financially.

Blade Runner 2049 already had Gosling and Ford. Two very well known names. So they could afford to cast lesser or unknown female supports. Chalamet is very well known in the awards circuit but he is not a well known name like the two male leads in 2049. Lady Jessica is an import role. I think Blanchett and Kidman would be good suggestions. They are also age appropriate. I think Amy Adams is slightly younger for the role.

Jessica is 37 when the first Dune takes place. Spice also gives human body longevity and slows down aging.

Someone like Brolin seems, for lack of a better word, too masculine/"tough guy" for Baron Harkonnen.

No they don't, but when people say Amy Adams is too young, I'm just pointing out Jessica's ACTUAL age in the original book.

Amy Adams looks good for her age, but she's also 43.

Julianne Moore would be another suggestion but I think her pecking order is behind Blanchett and Kidman unless the director demands the role to be hers.

Brian Cox a few years ago, I could see as Baron Harkonnen. He's getting kind of old and has slimmed down a lot though.

Just use prosthetics. Fat make-up looks very convincing. I also think they need to cast someone younger than Cox.

On the plus side, the spice gives an excuse to mess around with age of actors.

I would dig Mads Mikkelsen as Duke Leto.

Why would Jared Leto be in this movie? Last time he was in 2049 was because of WB. I doubt they Villeneuve would cast Leto again consider his reputation.
