Sci-Fi Dune

Daang, Bautista's good, but with the projects he's getting, he must have the best agent in town. When Dwayne Johnson first started out, he was in so many crappy movies. Whereas Bautista's got into the MCU, into James Bond, and now into a Villeneuve film based on the best science fiction novel in history.

Well, this will be his second Villeneuve film. Must’ve liked working together.

*Gets in time machine, visits Denis Villeneuve when he's making artistic indy films in Quebec*

"Denis, one day this man will be your muse."

Because Dave is a much better actor. The Rock is not a bad actor, he’s okay; but I have been really impressed with Dave’s acting. He’s a really, really good actor with outstanding range.

If you like him more, that’s fine, but I wonder how much the quality of the movies he’s been involved in affect how others rate his acting abilities.

I think both are wrestling tier acting-wise.

But I'm happy for Bautista, because he's a great human bean.

Hes not just a good actor, but also charismatic and can convey emotion and vulnerability well. I've enjoyed his presence in every film I've ever seen him in

This is his best performance, but it went under the radar, of course.

He was also really good in Blade Runner 2049

If Villenueve is casting some of his regulars then I wouldn't mind seeing David Dastmalchian in this. He randomly popped up in Birdbox.

Often in wrestling, he was paired up with an outspoken alpha like Ric Flair, Triple H or Eddie Guerrero. I think that helped teach Dave how to be an understated performer, the guy who lets the lead character get all emotional and then chimes in with the right line to steal the entire scene.

I don't know how great of an actor Bautista is or how much range he has, but he's been fine in everything I've seen him in (GOTG, Blade Runner 2049, Spectre), which granted aren't super-challenging roles but he's still effective and I'm sure Villeneuve will play to his strengths here as well.

Agreed. He's playing Rabban...it ain't too deep of a character.

It's like the Evolution stable he was in:

Vladimir Harkonnen: Triple H
Pieter De Vries: Ric Flair
Feyd: Randy Orton
Beast Rabban: Dave Batista

Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ Gets Editor Joe Walker (Exclusive) – IndieWire

“I was deeply familiar with ‘Arrival’ and ‘Blade Runner’ before they were made, sitting next to Denis in the cutting room when he formulated them, but, on this one, I’ve rather enjoyed being kept in the dark,” said Walker, who’s also cut four films for director Steve McQueen and has been nominated twice for Oscars (“Arrival,” “12 Years a Slave”).

Walker even recalled Villeneuve telling him why he’s been passionately drawn to “Dune” since childhood. “The one thing he said to me was that it’s almost like an aficionado writing it,” Walker said. “It’s not necessarily a super-polished piece of fiction, but it taps into two things that are fascinating: oil and religion.”

And therein lies the timeless appeal of “Dune,” which could be rebooted as a compelling Middle East allegory:” What’s tantalizing about it is there’s a wealth of material there,” Walker said. “Having to encounter other cultures and create stability out of unrest.”

Yeah....right.... /facepalm

Stellan Skarsgård to Play Villain in Legendary's 'Dune'

Skarsgård will play one of the villains of the piece, Baron Harkonnen, whose family previously ruled Arrakis and has a long hatred of the Atreides family, plotting with the galactic emperor to destroy it. He is also the uncle to the brutish character to be played by Bautista.

and another excellent casting choice.
