Sci-Fi Dune

Please Gawd...

Arrakis presented by Roger Deakins would be awesome.

Until I see something that convinces me this will work, not going to start drooling over the results. Even if Villeneuve signs on.

After ARRIVAL... I trust this director to deliver what a DUNE film needs as I see it. I can see for sure some expanded battle scenes not necessarily from the books but I can also see the tone and plot intricacies kept mostly intact as well. All throughout watching ARRIVAL I really was thinking to myself "If for nothing else than from a production values standpoint I would love to see what this guy could do with DUNE".

And now... Here we are. There is a "matter of fact ness" to his work that I think could possibly "elevate" an adaptation of DUNE. Lynch seemed more interested in making what was already a trippy and somewhat off putting story even more trippy and off putting to a mass audience. The SyFy series was hamstrung by issues of castin and budget and again seemed to want to push the un-relatable aspects. DUNE needs to be both trippy and indeed somewhat un-relatable but I don't think that pushing those aspects has done adaptations any good in the past. ARRIVAL and other fiwlms by Denis also have sort of "remove" to them but it seems appropriate given the circumstances in this film's. I hope he could tamp down that aspect of his work for DUNE, as I find that turning the trippiness to an already out there story hasn't helped past adaptations.

Denis is so great I kinda don't want him to just keep doing the member berries thing...Blade Runner is enough, Dune would be too much

"Member berries" is sort of baked into the very nature of our pop culture and that isn't recent. It's how it's always been.

But does one of the greatest directors we have now have to spend time on doing a sequel/reboot to not one but two films?

Eh... I'm the wrong guy to even make that argument to, no offense. I have no strong feelings against reboots/remakes/ reimagining sect. Some GREAT films, from The Maltese Falcon to The Ben-Hur would fall into the category of "been there, done that" frankly. I see nothing inherently bad about such film or do I look down on something that is a retread or remake. That's me though.

Just get Patrick Stewart again! He probably fits the role better now, anyways.

it's official -- Legendary Pictures has signed the very talented Denis Villeneuve to direct the exciting new DUNE series film project.

Nice! Denis is sure up and coming and of course Dune is a classic, never cared for Lynch's version of it.

Hype thrusters activated.

I refuse to get excited until filming has begun. We've been here twice already with Berg and Morel, neither of which was half as exciting as Villeneuve, though I still have my reservations.

Wow. I wanted him to direct Dune. Excitement!!!

It's quite a time for the director too. Directing Blade Runner and Dune - his favorites.

It could be a while. They've just started developing it and Legendary got the rights at the end of last year. I think we can rule out a 2017 start date. Not to mention Denis is developing "The Son" which is smaller in scale and closer to how Prisoners is as a movie. So that's most likely to come first if I was betting.

Who kept saying he wasn't gonna do it? I'm like Trump, I'm taking names. :argh:
