Sci-Fi Dune

No stress.
More than slim are the odds that God Emperor of Dune would be ever made as a movie.
Edit : lol at the pictures, it's a funny comparison :)

So what actors would or could have that kind of voice?

Roger Allam from Game Of Thrones, Speed Racer, The Thick Of It, V For Vendetta, Pirates Of The Caribbean, ect could be a good choice. Allam's voice is more commanding than booming but he is a actor I could see working well in the role.

Maybe Geoffrey Rush in a convincing fatsuit.

Yeah, I have no issues with that at all if true.

I was really hoping for Roger Deakins for either one of those two flicks.

This was peak Sci-fi Channel, though.

I loved the almost stage like presentation of the first mini-series. And hey, we got introduced to James McAvoy in the sequel.

Solid choice. I really enjoyed cinematography in Zero Dark Thirty, Lion, Killing Them Softly.

Middle Eastern, African, or Latin/Hispanic
Makes sense. But I don't remember how she's described in the books. I remember I imagined her as white.

Fremen are tanned, that's all. Edit : that can include European/Caucasian as well.

The article says "Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road) had previously shown interest in a Dune role, it seems like Chani could be something perfect for her."

As I have a fondness for her, I say yes. Edit : even if I don't think she has an elfin face as Chani does.

Another edit : I could see someone like Sofia Boutella as Chani, she has the physical ability required to play a Fremen or even Gal Gabot but neither are 18/23 y/o.

Boutella is 36 years old. So sort of old to play Chani in Dune when the character is supposed to be in her mid-to-late teens.

My recollection of Chani in the books is that she had elfin features. I forget if Herbert described her as having olive skin or not.

But the Fremen are a dessert dwelling people in Arakkis.

Also, Dune is set in humanity's far future by thousands of years. So I mean...African and American, Middle-Eastern, humanity would be well past that point. It would more be about what planet you hail from or what house you're a part of.

Yes, that is what I said more or less about Boutella/Gabot age for Chani (neither of them are 18/23 y/o) and Chani having an elfin face.
Herbert didn't give much details on the Fremen complexion besides being tanned and having a leathery skin.
Edit : in doubt, I am perfectly fine with the ethnicity casting call.

Hmmm Chani actually was a redhead, it’s where Ghanima got her red hair from.
Her father wasn’t completely Fremen her mother was but it makes sense that they would cast non white. Not a big deal to me really.

The Fremen having darker, tan skin makes sense since they live on Arakkis.

But I mean, Dune is set thousands of years into the future. While I wouldn't call it a post-racial society, racial lines would not be divided the way they are now.
