Sci-Fi Dune

The story is hard to adapt so I hope it delivers. The trailer looks good.

A bit better than Tenet's quality is enough, and Tenet's quality at worst is ok.

I was hoping for dynamic color grading and a more fantastical look, but it seems they've went for a mundane earth desert look.

True. It looks more like Nevada than Arrakis.

I wonder if Deakins has something to do with Blade Runner’s beauty. I like Frasier, but Deakins he isn’t.

I'll say, it looks very good, but not quite blown away by this trailer. I'm not sure that quite enough was done to sell it as a "must see" that's going to be different than any sci-fi/fantasy movie you've ever seen before. The scale looks awesome, but it didn't do enough to get me interested in the story as someone who's never read the book.

My ticket is already sold, but I'm just looking at it in terms of hoping this isn't another "cult classic bomb" for Denis after BR 2049.

Timothy is also not wowing me so far as a lead, unfortunately.

Before Lynch, there was to be Dune by Alejandro Jodorowsky in '77 which was in development since '71. Also, Ridley Scott tried to do it and was working on it in the early '80s before switching to adaptating Philip K Dick's 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' - Blade Runner.

Jodorowsky had this cast: Salvador Dalí, Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, David Carradine, Mick Jagger, Udo Kier & Amanda Lear.

He had music by Pink Floyd & Magma.
Set design & effects by HR Giger (Alien designer), Chris Foss (sc-fi illustrator) and Jean Giraud (Alien, The Abyss, Tron & The 5th Element).
Special effects by Dan O'Bannon (Alien writer).

After spending nearly 2 millions in pre-production, it went nowhere. Hebert said of Jodorowsky's script: "It was the size of a phone book". lol

Eventually, the film right lapsed and Dino De Laurentiis brought it and you have the Lynch version.

That's.....not the most promising cast.

I think this is the best trailer of the year for me, and considering the last few weeks, that’s saying something.

It's my most anticipated movie of the last few years, but I'm not really blown away by the trailer. I, too, believe that while there are some beautiful shots in it, the cinematography for the most part looks either kind of dull and bleached or extremely dark to the point where I can't see clearly what's happening. Fraser is generally fine but I'd have loved to see Deakins's take on this. I'm sure it would have been a visual masterpiece.

I would have also preferred they'd show more politics and schemes rather than focus on epic battles. I get the argument of wanting to sell it to blockbuster audience but I don't want it to look like a better version of Star Wars. Didn't much care for the music either.

That being said, Villeneuve is my second favourite director working today and if someone can do it I'm sure it's him. It's all about the story and characters, anyway, and I'm very much looking forward to the film itself. I'm just not as impressed as I wanted and expected to be.

Zendaya ain't really great tbh. I'm interested in seeing Brolin as he was solid in Sicario and as Thanos.

I didn't say she was great, I just said she's more of a "name" than David Dastmalchian.

I agree Brolin looks bad-ass in this. I'm also curious to see Isaac, Ferguson, and Skarsgard.

Yea, I remember some people expected Blade Runner 2049 to have more action and more Harrison Ford than it actually did, because the trailers heavily featured both. And understandably so, but it left some people disappointed when it was a very slow investigative story and Ford didn't show up for a long time.

This looks interesting. Grand, weird fantasy world... I don’t have much knowledge of the source material but I do appreciate Denis Villeneuve a lot, he has made some of my favorite movies of the last couple of years, Sicario, Arrival and Blade Runner where all great.

I couldn't figure out how he got Salvador Dalí for this kind of outing, not to mention Jagger. lmao

Welles, Swanson & Carradine were all well known in the 1970s. Swanson was in her mid-70s, I have no idea why she was cast while Welles was in his early 60s & winding down his acting career.

If it actually happened, the Jodo version of Dune would have been such an abomination it would make the Lynch version look like Lord Of The Rings.

Yeah, Brolin is a pretty good actor, i forgot that he was in No Country For Old Man which is excellent.

Isaac and Momoa have to prove me that they can actually act, after their respective performances in Justice League and X-Men: Apocalypse.

I agree that she's more of a "name" but while playing a small role, the dude played an important character to Prisoners story and was in TDK, and i would consider either of them to be better than any other movie a member of the cast starred.

You're right and I was the opposite. It was a similar situation where I was not very keen on the idea of a more action packed sequel to the original film which I adore, so I was relieved to see that it wasn't the case with the movie after all. That's why I'm not saying the movie will be like that and I understand the reasons behind it but that's not what I wanted to see from the trailer.

Isaac has done plenty apart from X-Men and Star Wars. I don't think Momoa is a good actor. He pretty much just does his "Jason Momoa" thing, which Duncan Idaho looks like he's been adjusted to fit. In context though, his performance will probably be fine for what it is. People pretty much just hire Momoa to do his one thing.

...watch Euphoria.

I might, the score and story seems interesting tbh.

He was solid only in Aquaman, due to the movie being a lot colorful and light hearted compared to JL which is straight up garbage. I think he will be fine here, but who knows?

He does have only one movie that i like and BvS, if you call that "acting".

I only remember Isaac from Ex Machina which was great and Drive which is amazing but he had a small role in it, anyways i am convinced that he's a good actor but i don't think he will be great since there's a lot of characters and he has a small role.

It looks well made that’s for sure. But like the directors other films I’m failing to see this have any mainstream appeal. Villeneuve is a great director but he’s yet to really capture regular movie goers.
