Sci-Fi Dune

That's not a particularly important scene right now though. They can easily establish that he was apprehended in the next film when it will be of relevance to the plot. I don't see any fault in making the audience wonder about the state of characters that we didn't see die. It's quite common to do that.

It is important if they maintain Thufir's subplot from the second half of the book.

I think at this point, I hope it does well and the sequel does even better, so they greenlight Dune Messiah and we can have his “trilogy”.

Still trying to wrap my head around a big budget, hyped up DUNE MESSIAH adaptation. Haha. Would love to see it, though. Brains would break.

Lastly, it’s funny that Bautista felt a need to call out Marvel for having him act like an idiot for most of his MCU appearances when all he does here is come off like a moron. He really didn’t do anything of significance (which is pretty much in line with Rabban in the book, lol) so either a lot of stuff was left on the cutting room floor or else he’s just overrating his own performance.

Lol I thought the same thing

I hope home release will have IMAX ratio. Similar to the recent Batman v Superman.
People are not going to like Dune Messiah :D
Not sure people will judge it on the same terms as LOTR or some other heroic fantasy of good vs. evil.

I'm pretty sure it will have the cropped (medium) Imax ratio but not the full one.

With Disney+ now releasing movie with the full Imax ratio, I'm sort of holding out hope for this movie, but it's likely just the cropped one, yeah. :(

None of the MCU films were filmed in the full 1.43:1 ratio though. The only home video release that has the 1.43:1 aspect ratio for Imax scenes is the BvS remastered edition that came out earlier this year.

Is that the theatrical or ultimate edition version?

I guess Bautista would rather be the dumbest character in a smart movie instead of being the dumbest character in an MCU movie.

I think also he’s the butt of the joke in the MCU, and in Dune he’s a threat.

Would be interesting to see James Gunn’s Dune and Denis Villeneuve’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Just a guess, one will be funnier than the other.

I went to an IMAX screening of Dune about 3 weeks ago. That was the first time I ever stepped into a cinema since early 2019 (I think) lol.

All I could say is that having first read Herbert’s Dune about four decades ago, it seems to capture the book vision and the latest big screen version has a clear story arc, the pacing was quite good & you can follow it without needing exposition.

Most fantastic of all - sound effects in the cinema, especially the near realistic looking ornithopters with that sounds & the feeling of the reverbnation that had me shook a bit with visceral reaction, all with Zimmer’s music emanating menace & suspense tension.

I was intrigued by the ornithopters which I read online were made by the British company BGI and two of them flew in the film. I am not sure how unless they were scale models as mechanical flying machines like the ornithopters which are essentially same as the dragonflies are too large to operate in Earth’s air density, I had to go back to my worst undergraduate subject, fluid dynamics to see that it’s dependent on the Reynolds number (see What is Reynolds Number? | SimWiki | SimScale). Actual dragonfly is very small and efficient, but in the past million of years ago Earth’s oxygen concentration was higher so dragonfly grew large with a wingspan of over 2 feet. But certainly not one as large as the one in Villeneuve’s Dune.

Villeneuve seems to have used mainly visual motifs to condense Herbert’s dense materials into 3 hrs, quite admirable but I feel devalued Herbert’s work a bit.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the second part!

I find it absurd that this movie still didnt cross $100M at domestic box office. $89M at this moment. And despite that it's still overall in top 10 box office releases this year. I dont get it. I mean it was clear after that first to 2nd week drop off it would have hard time climbing. And in following weeks it did kept being just behind Eternals which was recent release. But you wish it did better.

It will likely at the end overtake Halloween Kills for domestic box office ($90M), but i am not sure it will Godzilla vs King which is right on that $100M mark.

It will definitely cross the 100M mark.

Yeah maybe if you didn't keep flip flopping your position a discussion would be possible. But an immature person like me has better things to do than "stand" up for something so important as an argument on a comic book forum. :yay::D:cwink::word::wow::huh::oldrazz::cmad::whatever::csad:

I haven't flip flopped on anything. I said it's hard to admit something that isn't true, referring to your statement that there is no character development in the film. I proved it with an example and then you tried to flip flop your statement by saying that I only gave one example, where I pointed out that one example is enough to disprove the complete lack of it.

Then you decided that you wanted to try to blame others for what you write. As for having better things to do, why then did you decide to bring it up again after two weeks?

I don't get Batista's comments about his performance. Rabban is a big dumb, aggressive brute. That's not really a bad thing as Rabban is a big brute, but it was hardly this crazy nuanced performance or playing against type for Batista.

Uh, this is an odd take. This was a movie released on HBO MAX. The film's domestic gross is actually rather stunning. It's holds have been terrific and should be well on it's way to passing the 100m mark. Every analysis has it as a top performer, and the proof is in the pudding. Dune is getting a rare second run in IMAX in December. You only get that if you are producing.

What This, Godzilla and the Matrix will prove, is how dumb the HBO MAX releases were for Warner's box office. I can't imagine why someone lost their job. :o
