Sci-Fi Dune

The lack of Christopher Walken is the only thing that really stood out for me in the trailer, but that just means we have more to look forward to in the movie itself so that's not a bad thing at all.

Otherwise, its a great trailer IMO.
He was there, didn't you see him?

Yeah... think of them as little sagas / huge time jumps occur;

Frank Herbert
Dune
Dune - Messiah

Children Of Dune
God Emperor Of Dune

Heretics Of Dune
Chapterhouse - Dune

...he passed away and Brian, his son, wrote two books based on (with changes) Frank's Book 7 Floppy Disk;

Brian Herbert
Hunters Of Dune
Sandworms Of Dune

...there are also a 'main canon' prequel trilogy done by Brian and a co-writer, again sort of based on Frank's notes;

Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson
Dune - The Butlerian Jihad
Dune - The Machine Crusade
Dune - The Battle Of Corrin

I won't bother beyond there... everything I heard is not good or unnecessary.

I've only have read Frank's original 6 and intend to read the other 5 at some point.

I do read the comics from Boom!, they're not bad and engaging.
Children of Dune goes with Dune and it's coda imo. It's the bulk of the same characters in the same time period. It's the proper sequel, where as Messiah is the fourth "missing" book of Dune. God Emperor is more of it's own thing.

I could also see that...

I just feel like Paul's journey is essentially over with Messiah and Children starts off Leto II and Ghanima's story, the next arc of Arrakis.

One could also break them up as...

Dune
Dune - Messiah
Children Of Dune

God Emperor Of Dune
Heretics Of Dune
Chapterhouse - Dune

...or...

Dune
Dune - Messiah

Children Of Dune
God Emperor Of Dune
Heretics Of Dune
Chapterhouse - Dune

If we are to believe the bare essence of what Frank's boy wrote as his general intent, then one could say it's all Paul's story. His struggle to escape destiny and find time with the love of his life.

Here is the thing: Denis ain't doing every book, lol. He's already stated he wanted to do Messiah as a 3rd film in a trilogy. So that all said, handing it off at Children of Dune makes by far the most sense to whoever takes over. Children of Dune is also a more involved story that would require like 2 movies or a show to do justice for, so whoever takes over from there is gonna be busy for years. So looking it it from the perspective of

Dune
Dune Messiah

Children of Dune
God Emperor of Dune

Heretics of Dune
Chapterhouse Dune

Makes the most sense from a standpoint of how you want to adapt the stories for film purposes

...repetition and cycles, that's why those 6 books are so great.

It was going to end the same way it began.

Which makes a lot of sense, given what was going on his life at around that time.

Beverly Herbert died before Heretics and Chapterhouse came out. And would have definitely been a big part of his planning for Dune 7.
That would also explain Daniel and Marty.

I'm not gonna lie though, I am extremely curious about one thing in a potential Dune Messiah.

What kind of performance can Villenueve pull out of Momoa for Hayt. Do we expect miracles?

I didn't know Batista had the talent that he showcased in the opening of BR2049 until I saw it. So, possibly

Not sure of the reasoning behind it but the cinematography in that black and white gladiator scene looks fantastic.

I’m trying to figure that one out too. In the book, the gladiator sequence takes place around the same time as everything else, so it’s not a flashback. Though maybe they changed it to something that happened previously and did it in black and white to make that even more clear.

But if it’s not a flashback, then perhaps somehow the Harkonnens have found a way to remove color in the arena. That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but… neither does having a spider-human hybrid sex slave, lol.

One thing I've seen mentioned is that it might be an extention of the black and white knife quotes. Just showing how dreadful this place is, I guess. Absense of light and life.

There were also some people trying to analyze whether this might be shot in camera versus a B&W filter. Some of the artifacts present in the footage has made some lean towards it being at least partly in camera. I don't have the technical knowhow though.

Gosh so much dust.

looking forward to this. It’s lovely hearing that music again

Trailer wasn’t so spectacular…but I don’t needed a spectacular trailer.
This is the most anticipated movie of the next 3 years for me.
The colors and the music in the trailer *chefskiss
This will be good. No doubt about it
