Just more random. thoughts about this movie:

- Man Chalamet really showed up in this. When his character comes into his own he is HAUNTINGLY commanding.
- Austin Butler's character!! Lawd, one of my favorite movie bad guys in recent memory.
- Javier Bardem had my theater rolling with almost every line.
- Zendaya was incredible
- The action in this is epic.
- The score is even more epic.

You literally have to see this on a big ass screen.

bardem as stilgar was probably my favorite actor in the first film. so good. and such a great character.

i really look forward to seeing his performance in this one.

So, I rewatched Lynch's Dune as well as the miniseries from 2000 in anticipation for Part 2 and while I can finally say that I do enjoy and appreciate the Lynch movie I still do prefer the 2000 miniseries.

Outdated sfx and not so great acting aside I just enjoy the more sweeping and EPIC feel of the miniseries more than the cold, dark, atmospheric vibe of the Lynch film although the worm scenes are great.

I also appreciate the more fun, upbeat personality of the series too, but I get what Lynch was going for with the 80's aesthetic which definitely helps that movie when it comes to the more horror-oriented scenes. Alicia Witt's performance in that movie is still as terrifying and memorable as ever IMO.

Either way, I really can't wait for Part 2.

One thing i gotta hand it to Villaneuve and the screenwriters for is really doing a great job of streamlining this supposedly very complicated and convoluted source material into a REALLY straightforward story. Part 2 is even way more straightforward than part 1 and i would also argue just overall more palatable for general audiences.

Theres more humor in this one and more naturalistic acting from almost all of the actors as opposed to part 1 where it felt like everyone (except jason mamoa) was so stoic and talking in colloquialisms, the acting and dialogue in this part felt a little more…modern to me? To an extreme degree mind you, but subtly. I feel like that may have been a subtle change on Villaneuve’s part to make sure audiences had an easier time digesting this one.

To be fair to Lynch's adaptation, he was forced to cut the movie down and didn't get the option of splitting it into 2 movies. So they did have about 5.5 hrs to tell the story, which helps a lot in streamlining it.

This movie’s gonna be a big hit, i can feel it. Its still got the artsy vibe but i think audiences right now are of an appetite for something… different —i mean look at Oppenheimer. And this has just the right amount of blockbuster action and gravitas that i wouldnt be surprised if word of mouth shoots this thing past projections.

My reaction out of the theater after having just watched Dune 2.

I’ll start by saying that I really really liked the first Dune. I thought it was great and I was looking forward to taking a peek behind the curtain and get more of that world with the sequel. Unfortunately I was bewildered by some of the choices made in the sequel and I honestly think they bit more than they could chew.

The score, some epic visuals, some of the world building and other brilliant directing touches are my highlights.

On the other hand this thing could have easily been several movies or just make the whole thing as a TV series. At first I was confused because some characters where sort of behaving differently, then it was so messy, then it started to be good, then it was odd, then it was ridiculous, plus a ton of questionable choices throughout until the very end.

I haven’t read the books but from what some people said it was pretty accurate and with that I sort of get lost for words without knowing what to say other than being sort of perplexed by it all.

It’s a movie theater experience for sure though. The sound, visuals, action and scope will undoubtedly please many. I might be on the minority here but I was hoping for more or should I just say better.

I saw some people making comparisons with the LOTR but this ain’t it. Dune 1 I thought was pretty great while Dune 2 by being bigger/bolder was just fine.

The more nuanced takes are what I'm paying most attention to. Not because I don't believe the film is great, but because it seems like people want to so desperately call every new event film the next "lord of the rings, empire or dark knight". Obviously not saying it can't be that, but there's so much hyperbole out there. I hope I love it! I adore films like this. But I see people saying part 2 makes part 1 better similar to Two Towers with Fellowship. Again, I very much was a fan of dune part 1, but I still find fellowship of the ring to be a more engaging stand alone experience even without two towers.

I actually thought Villeneuve and the writers were the stars in the first film. Some great quotes in that first film and I just thought that script was pretty great. Now I actually went and checked and it seems that both Dune 1 and 2 had 3 writers but just not the same ones, for the sequel they changed 1 of them. Dune 2’s script didn’t stand out at all to me, on the contrary some parts weren’t great at all.

I 100% agree with you that there’s much more humor and I don’t think it particularly gells well with how the first was set up. And the acting also went from more of a prestigious feel to a more nonchalant one which again is definitely odd when you put the 2 parts together.
