If they are going to cast a big 40 year old wrestler, they are better off going with Dave Batista. At least he's Greek.

But the proper way to do things is cast a good young actor in the role, like what they did on Thor with Chris Hemsworth.

Dave covers even more ground because he's Greek and Asian!

BTW his daughter is hot.

why not get Joe Manganiello he kind of resembles Steve Reeves

Not true.

How so? And I mentioned that my theory excludes their cultural impact (tech, polititics, philosophy) on modern day society.

Let's take modern film depictions of Jesus. If they wanted an accurate depiction, then he would look more Middle Eastern and less Westernized.

Besides this most likely will be a crap movie anyway! ;)

Because modern day Greek do not look very different from the ancient ones.

That said, this movie will be a comic book movie, not really a real attempt at the old myths.

That was my point in my last post: we're going too deep into a movie starring The Rock in a Brett Ratner movie. I'm sure the soundtrack will feature 'Sabotage' and 'Me so H*rny'. It's absurd.

Yes, because the only notable thing in Hercules' myth is the 12 Trials.
Hmmm...I don't think he implied that. I think it was just a suggestion

First off, The Rock is also Samoan if that mattered. I just think he looks more Samoan than black but like what I said before that's irrelevant.

Also Kevin Sorbo doesnt look Greek and he played the character. In fact, many depictions of Greek characters are also done by Brits with British accents.

Hell are suppose to buy Sam Worthington as an ancient Greek? Anicent Greece and Rome are so divorce from modern day (bedsides their cultural influences) that we
can have some leeway with their depictions. Especially if they're mythological!

What's your point?
Okay but these actors are actually white. Thats the point. I didn't like it when they turned the Asian characters in Avatar:The Last Airbender white and I don't like it when they turn a character like Hercules black. Most of the time, it doesn't really matter if you change a character's race but with something like Hercules it does.

And what do you mean what is my point...I think I've made it quite clear :o whats yours?

My point is that Brett Ratner will have The Rock dance to 'Me So H*rny' in the film.

And that he's half Black, half Samoan.

We are over thinking a Brett Ratner film based on a comic that cares about that will most likely be stuck in Development Hell.

all of them lol sorry you dont need some independent drama to showcase acting skills my friend

he can be funny and also very good when serious he has screen presence and oozes charisma

Name his best starring role...seriously. What movie is his best movie?

But it's not this movie requires damn good acting. Until The Rock headlines a Terrance Malack film, to quote The Rock ...it doesn't matter!'

The Rock is a mediocre actor period. If he is such a talent besides a hammy action star then someone show me. That's why D-Wayne plus Hackner will equal an fawful movie. If someone wants to make a good Hercules movie, these two need to stay far far away. I don't want any more hammy Greek popcorn flicks with awful acting and pretty effects. Let's demand a good movie for a character that hasnt been on screen in decades.

Interesting that so many people know nothing of history and that the real Hercules was far from White- looking.

I haven't read this graphic novel, but all the reviews I can find of it make it sound a bit heavy on violence...maybe an approach similar to 300?

When you watch an Arnie, Sly, Diesel, or Rock movie, fans never looks for great acting. We look for badassery, charisma, manliness, violence and kick ass action.

When we want heavy drama and great acting, we look for Daniel Day Lewis, Sean Penn, Russel Crowe, Christian Bale, or Gary Oldman.

Yeah, I read some reviews of the comics. It's gonna be 300 style violence, i hope its rated R. Can we replace Ratner?

Rated R officially sold me on this film. Yeah this is an action film so all I care about is the action. The oscar worthy films I look for people like a Will Smith or Denzel Washington.

See Faster(2010). Also , there aren't many bodybuilder/thespians to choose from. I'd rather this than another Conan debacle.

Faster was an amazing old school chase/noir film. Sad that it didn't get more praise.

Name one great Dwayne the Rock Johnson movie in which he showcased his acting abilities.

Kane and bullets beat me to it, so I'm just going to hammer it in. Faster.

*sigh*

I'd actually like to see a serious Hercules movie with an actor that I could really see for Hercules and not The Rock. I love Johnson but I'd prefer to see someone else with a different vision. The Hercules story sounds like it has a lot of potential already.

Give the guy a chance. After all, in 1981 we all would have complained that Conan is being played by that doofus Mr. Universe who can't even speak English.

Faster is solid. The Rundown is fun. He was the best thing in Fast Five. And he basically stole the show in Be Cool. I love the Rock and his films have been getting good box office lately. I hope it continues with GI Joe and Hercules. We need more macho action films.

We're arguing over the race of an ancient Greek MYTHOLOGICAL character? This is gonna be a fun movie and that's it, nothing more and nothing less. Pretty much it. I'm excited personally.

The only thing Ratner should be directing is traffic.
