Is the third one confirmed? If so I might just get the inevitable trilogy boxed set.

I loved Fry's butler.

Stanley where are you going?!

haha this film is just a whole barrell of fun. If you go through this film without chuckling once you are some kind of misanthrope. And I thought the editing was great. As was the production design, SFX and action scenes. RDJ and Law are like brothers from another mother. Jared Harris is utterly brilliant as Moriarty.

I just thought it was a bit erratic in the first hour, things seemed to jump from place to place a bit quickly, didnt effect the overall movie though.

This has taken forever to come out on disc.

^Came out in the UK on Monday, longer than it took MI4 and Dragon Tattoo to come which were out around the same time.

Has there been any news on a 3rd movie at all, or do you guys think they are waiting for the release of the BD/DVD?

Warners signed Ritchie to direct the third movie in January and there has been no news since. I'm guessing a script is being hammered out.

Well, Drew Pearce is writing a third SH film but he's also working with Shane Black on Iron Man 3. (And either way, WB and Ritchie have to wait for RDJ to finish up with IM3.)

I'll be honest, I just want RDJ to do a smaller type film at this point, like Paul Thomas Anderson's next after 'The Master'.

Good news, as long as its confirmed I can wait for more news, didnt know they had already signed up Ritchie though so thats a good thing.

I'm glad it's still happening. And I thought I missed the release of the second film on DVD. The first one came out in March.

I was a bit unfair with SH2 when I saw it in the cinema. While the story was definitely inferior to SH1 and I didn't really love Moriarty's portrayal, it was better than I remembered it and I do want a 3rd one.

^Personally after only seeing the 2nd one last week for the first time, I thought it was at the very least on par with the 1st movie. I think the lesser reviews came from the 'no longer a surprise' factor, the first was a surprise in the way it was presented, the 2nd movie didnt have that luxary, but it definately wasnt a worse movie and in a lot of ways for me it was the better of the 2.

Direction was better. Chemistry between RDJ and Law was better. The script was a bloody mess, imo, though. Shimza's (sp?) character was utterly useless beside her 1st scene.

I thought Sherlock's battle of wits with Moriarty made the movie in some ways better, as SH1's villain was rather weak and felt more like a Scooby-Doo villain. So, their scenes together really worked. Also, I think Noomi Rapace played off RDJ much better than Rachel McAdams, however Sim is a pretty useless character while Irene Adler should have been amazing (see BBC's Season 2 to see how it's done). Ultimately, the biggest problem I have with SH2 is there is no mystery (other than arbitrary reason that Moriarty would want to start a world war). It's a series of action set-piecees that while it has a better legitimate threat, doesn't feel very much like Sherlock Holmes. And I thought that sequence in the woods went on way too long.

So, both have different weaknesses and make entertaining ovies, but given how good Downey and Law are as Holmes and Watson (and how great the art direction is on both films), they could be much better. Just my opinion.

I thought the motive of Moriarty was the mystery of the whole film that Sherlock was trying to figure out. It plays like a big chess game and Holmes is trying to deduce Moriarty's plan as he goes along.

You pretty much summed it up. On closer inspection, SH2 didn't have the surprise factor (aka the new approach to the mythos) its predecessor had. Hopefully they'll try harder for SH3.

As much as I kinda liked Sherlock Holmes 2, because I know that there's a better 'Sherlock' out here, by the way of the BBC, this series doesn't resonate with me.

Also, the story is only as smart as the writer, and I felt that Sherlock Holmes 2 was trying to be clever but lacks any sort of real wit. (Besides the banter). RDJ's Holmes method of solving mysteries are all internal. We as an audience can't follow along, and go 'aha!' at any point, because no real clues are planted throughout the movie. Especially when they go back and reveal stuff in flashbacks.

This franchise's timing was unfortunate because of the BBC series, I have to agree. Season 2 blew SH2 out of this dimension (I'm only comparing because they handled the same general story and adversary).

Yeah after watching the 2nd season of Sherlock, I lost a ton of interest in the film series. Still haven't seen the first season.

Well yeah, the only things worse in the 2nd movie was the script and the mystery, we couldnt go along with the mystery this time, we had to have Holmes tell us instead. I thought generally the 2nd movie was more entertaning though.

See, I wouldn't associate the script and the mystery of a Holmes movie with the word "only". I would also agree that SH2 could've been more entertaining if it hadn't been that unnecessarily long. Still, I liked it better on second viewing.

I agree nearly completely.

The thing is, I don't consider these Sherlock Holmes stories. More like a new age Indy. Not as good as Raiders or ToD of course, but a ton of fun. I love the idea of watching these two films back to back on a Sat afternoon.

That's the way to go to fully enjoy them probably, I agree. But even then something's off, can't quite put my finger on it, though.
