Looks like I'll probably catch this sometime during the week. It being fresh and it being the Rock keeps me in it, despite him not being a full blown demigod.

Is it me, or were some scenes in the trailer not in the movie or were redone?

Supernatural ish scenes and a dream scene where his dead family is in Heaven?

Misleading ish trailer, but damn, it's a good movie anyway.

The other Hercules has a 3% rating on rotten tomatoes... Compared to the fresh and full of good reviews for Dwayne's movie.... clearly it was successful. It did exactly what it wanted to accomplish, it not fitting the stereotypical Hercules( which all the recent movies have tried and failed at mind you) doesn't make it a bad movie

I like this new take on the story & the invention of shaking it up and not definitively showing Hercules as a full blown demi-God until the climax. It's a different route to take it, because even with the 12 labors behind him Hercules has to again prove himself.

And the Brett Ratner hate is ridiculous, it's mostly just bandwagon hate though, which means over time it'll dissipate and surface when it becomes "cool" to hate on somebody else. He did fine with this movie just like he did with the Rush Hour films & Money Talks.

All in all, I'm hoping this movie will end up making more as time goes on because it's a great take on the story & is a definitive version for this generation, which was Dwayne's goal. And he came through in spades.

To be fair they told us from the beginning of production on this film that the mythological aspects of Hercules were not going to play a big part in this film. I was so surprised by the trailers because they marketed the film as a film that had gods and mythical beast throughout, but in the end they stuck to what they said they would do.

I feel like this movie is taking on what "Noah" did earlier this year. People are just not going to see it because it's not the "norm" so they are missing out on a great/fun movie. Go watch it for yourselves.

**edit** I'm not comparing the Quality of Hercules to Noah btw haha two TOTALLY different beasts, the online reaction is similar

I think it'll ultimately do fairly good, or at least good enough to not be a box office flop like the first Hercules movie released this year.

I think fanboys want Ratner to stay in his zone of wacky comedies. No one can deny the first Rush Hour is one of the most classic buddy comedies ever filmed.

Hell yes, and if they do deny it they're just purebred haters.

I actually thought Red Dragon was pretty good.

Well, with the actual numbers in I'm happy to see that this made $8.8 million more domestically than was projected for its opening weekend. Along with Lucy, its gonna have to churn in as much business as possible before Friday. GOTG is about to smash.

Oh look I was right...movie is bad and it bombed. Now hopefully Brett Ratner goes away forever.

And yet, magically, Brett Ratner is still doing Beverly Hills Cop 4.

That will bomb too.

I like how you're everywhere where there's something pertaining to Dwayne or Ratner to say how much you hate them and how much you want them to fail. :o

We get it...you're a hater. But it's annoying so stop it. There are directors and actors I dislike but I'm not all through their threads spewing hatred towards them.

I tried reading through this thread but couldn't make it far because of how annoying your comments became. Opinions are fine, but Jesus Christ man, give it a rest already.

Thank you

I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I think it's a 6 or 7/10 movie, but what sucks for an European like me, it came the same weekend as GOTG.

GOTG is the Summer movie, it was a blast of fun. This movie? Not so much.

While not quite on the level of GOTG, I do think Hercules is a hell of a film that manages to be better than a lot of other recent Greek Mythology movies and it does so without flashing a million creatures.

With everything that's been Greek Mythology based from God of War to Clash of the Titans, I think this was a nice change of pace.

I quite enjoyed this.

Didn't take itself too seriously. Not too heavy or slow. Action was quite visceral and fun, enhanced quite a bit by the 3d.

Story was actually more engaging than I thought it would be. The 'real world' take on the mythology was an interesting hook, and I'm a bit surprised they didn't play that up more in the trailers, instead of trying to sell it on hydra fights and lion fights (which imo were the worst parts of the trailer/movie, with its subpar cgi. Those short scenes do play better in the movie though, knowing that it's not supposed to be real anyways).

The Rock does a good job of being entertaining in his ridiculous presence and over-the-top figure, but at the same time, his serious moments are pulled off just enough for you to actually buy into his plight, and when the movie tries to go for the occasional triumphant or emotional moment, it kind of works.

The thing that holds this movie back, though at the same time gives it its appeal in a sense, is how 'early 2000s' it feels, with its tone, its simple plot turns, and with the choice of some of cast members. I feel like this movie could have been truly been exceptional if they matched the 'real world' take with a less cheesy family-friendly blockbuster tone, but at the same time I do welcome it. As dated and generic as it may feel in some aspects, it was sort of refreshing to see that kind of movie again.

7.5/10 for me. This is the kind of movie I could see myself buying on blu-ray, just to have it on in the background on a Sunday afternoon.

As much as I disliked the fact they just played up his legend as lies even until the very end, I had fun with it. Just simply dumb fun.

I like how the one mythology film that downplays mythological aspects ends up being way better than all the other mythology films of the past 5 years. Honestly, this one blows them all out of the water.

And I like how a good portion of the vehement Ratner haters are eating crow. Even if this film wasn't the most exciting film to watch, you can't say this was a poorly made film.

Well it's hard to say how does one define the word poorly.

Spoilers:
For example, i thought it was poorly played how they sort of "twist" how John Hurt's character is a megalomaniac and that Rheusus is actually a freedom fighter as twists, the movie first tries to show Thrace as this honorable city, with Hera as their goddess and everything. Don't even get me started on them worshipping Hera, but my point is:

Why did they go the "Hollywood" route? Why not just show Thracians as these savages, with Rhesus as a freedom fighter and Hercules simply not giving a damn? In the comic (yeah look at me, i'm so elitist, using the source material as an argument) John Hurt's character betrays Hercules when Hercules learns of John Hurt's character's plans to attack Mount Olympus.

I also didn't like the fight with the tattooed people's conclusion, with them using the cavalry at the last moment with those really cartoonish blades. I thought it was poorly done and it was a miracle it didn't have any accidently friendly fire going on.

I guess I'll check it out at the dollar theater chain in a few months.
