I agree he isn't just black but he sure plays up that side of himself in the media. I just saw him on the cover of Essence Magazine a few weeks ago. He acknowledges that part of him as well as his other parts. The reason some just identify him as black (I don't) is because he plays black characters sometimes and people like to put people and certain actors in boxes.

I never really saw him as black, or white (didn't know his heritage either). I never really thought about it. He does the roles he plays well and it's never been an issue of ethnicity. His skin tone is such he can play a lot of ethnicities and it not matter.

Yeah i actually think more people associate him as being samoan or "miscellaneous" than just being black. In his last movie i think his son was actually white? I know he played a full on samoan in the get shorty sequel.

The rock falls in that vin diesel category of not being pigeon holed to one ethnic group in term of roles.

We claim everybody that has some black ancestry. Otherwise all we have is the dude that invented peanut butter. :o

Yeah, Vin is cut from the same cloth, if you follow Vin's career and his short film about his struggles as an actor. Diesel used to get 'You're not black enough' or 'white enough' back in the day.

In the Rock's film roles that Ive seen, I dont think his race has ever been mentioned. Ive never seen him referred to as black, Polynesian, Hawaiian etc. In real life he definitely is in touch with his Polynesian roots what with the tattoos and such.

Correct me if Im wrong, but Im pretty sure that many ancient Greeks had similar skin tone to the Rock's so its all good. Even if they didnt and they were pale, so what? Its the friggin Rock!

No supernatural in this take. ummm, no thanks from me. I'll need enormous conformation it good before I see it. Mythological character in non mythological world not my style.

New picture of Rock looking like a mountain.

These back shots are such a tease.

He hasn't yet revealed the full look. I think the full look should be out soon.

This is the first I've heard about a Hercules movie but every time I hear about any I keep getting flashbacks to this one.

Has anyone else seen it? It's amazing[BLACKOUT]ly terrible.[/BLACKOUT]

In that shot, I think he could play that one dude in RR's Fire and Ice...I forgot his name, but you know the one I mean.

woow, he got big. i mean........he got gear haha

He should change his moniker to The Boulder.

Right?

He was absolutely his biggest yet in Pain and Gain, even bigger than he looks now for Hercules. It's the same deal as when Arnold played Conan they want you to lean down a bit for the part, a pure bodybuilder physique would be out of place in the film, and the era the film takes place in.

I think the rock got his arguable biggest during pain and gain.

I read a health magazine feature recently and it said he trained for 2 months for Pain and Gain and 6 months for Hercules. And he said it was the biggest role of his career and his dream role, so he might bring his best physique ever for Hercules.

But at WrestleMania, he suffered a terrible injruy that pretty much put him out of working out for about ~2 months

As this Hercules isn't apparently mythical it's possible he could be a little too big though for the role. It would be better if he didn't try to go for a "body-builder" pain and gain type of look but a more "natural" looking strong physique.

I think Jason Mamoa as both Conan and Khal Drogo had the right type of physique for that.

In regards to the Rock's race....in the WWE he is acknowledged mainly as a Samoan wrestler and therefore is not considered in the history of the WWE as the first African American WWE Champion.

The real Hercules was black.

Hercules/Heracles' family history is quite broad and wouldn't be white, black or middle eastern though he'd be a likely mix of different ethnicities ranging from Grecian (Greek) to possibly Ethiopia or Egyptian and whatever you want to call Zeus.

Whatever his ethnicity was, real or mythical, he was described as dark skinned which is still a vaguely open term from being a really tan caucasian to someone in a deep black skin tone of African descent (Ethopian or Egyptian, their skin tones aren't the same).

Trying to unwind the mess of his family ancestry is complicated by the amount of fooling around these people did. And looking at the number of children Hercules had by so many women (and the number of men he was purpoted to sleep with), the man was a ****e like no other.

Anyways, short of it is Dwayne Johnson is fine or the role since no one can definitively claim what the man looked like besides being "dark skinned."
