Hey, I searched and couldn't find if anybody made another thread of this topic.

I was wondering what anybody here thought of the new "Lone Ranger" comic out there.

Personally, I love it. It reads like a western, it fleshes out the character of John Reid, Tanto's a bad@$$ It's like the writer, Brett Matthews, gave the Lone Ranger the Batman Begins treatment. I really can't wait for the fourth issue.

I was gonna check it out, but considerin' I ain't been too thrilled with DE thus far and get far too many books, I passed on it.

I buy too many comics already, so I can't even think of picking it up, but I really hope it comes out in trade.

Darthphere apparently loves it.

And I didn't even know about it! x.x

An old west comic!! Damn!! >.<

Yeah, I first heard of it through Wizard magazine a month or two back and was interested, and it wasn't until I noticed the third issue on the "New" shelf last week, and I picked up the other two with it.

Is it good? The only thing I remember from Dynamite was Bomb Queen, and that pretty much turned me off to Dynamite.

I like it. And it is written like a good western, so even more points in its favor (for me at least :woot: ). It's more than just "hi-yo silver!" It's about a man who witnesses his family's death, and also comes back from the brink of death (thanks to Tonto) and how he comes to be the Lone Ranger. I love the villain, Black Bart, who
does some pretty devious stuff to the corpses of the Ranger's family members.
There are also these nice little references to the older material in some pages.

I should start looking into Jonah Hex as well. I've heard good things, but I have to keep saving for college...well, there's always the trade paperbacks, I guess.

Oh, definitely do. The one thing about Jonah Hex is, though, until about two issues ago, all of the stories were one shots, so it's like the perfect format to pick up in single issue-form. :o

I'll be grabing the trade when it comes out.

The story is tight, the art is awesome, I just wish there was more dialogue.

yeah, same here. But then again, the visuals do tell the story where dialogue isn't necessarily needed. I mean, we know what's going on. Although, I'd like to see some more thought bubbles to see the characters' reasoning behind their actions and such, but I love this book all the same.

I loved Tonto's entrance, it was great. and then in #2 the full page with him saying "How" and then the very next page "How did you survive?" that was nice nod to the fans and keeping it respectful, I can't wait to see him rdiing Silver.

Yeah, and with the first issue, his brother shouting "Hi-Yo!" while they were riding was great. The little nods are fantastic. And I love Tonto's characterization in this. He seems bitter and lonely, and when you make him mad, you better run.

I loved Silver's story at the end of the third issue, how the dealer found Silver, and then John just says "I'll take him" looking all wide-eyed.

I feel like an old man reminiscing about those old Lone Ranger radio shows. Kind of unrelated but I heard Dynamite might be getting the rights to Green Hornet.

Really? :wow:

I remember both programs from old TV. Working at a library has many advantages at finding the old good stuff. I just found out that we have a lot of old Green Hornet VHS tapes.

Awesome. Really, when i read this book all I can think about how cool this would be as a movie.

Yeah, it really would. We need more good westerns in film now.

btw, love the Colbert avatar.
