E3 2009

Part of the game list

MW2
ODST
Alan Wake
Ghostbusters
Final Fantasy - 13
Gears 2 - All Fronts
Turtles In Time - XBLA (Hopefully)

Yeah, I was caught off guard by that. I was expecting an expansion, but not a full out sequel

Man, I hate having to wait until I go home to watch all this stuff.

Was there any actual footage of L4D2? I was content to wait until I heard about that. :csad:

While left4dead 2 is great and all Left4dead hasn't even been out a year, where the hell is episode 3?
Good point, but I still can't help being excited for anything Valve offers my unworthy self.

MS's show was alright. Beginning was boring. Left4dead 2, SC, MW, and MGS saved it. Motion control, Twitter, Facebook, and everything else....ZZZZZZZZ.

That said, new MGS woot!! We all new it was coming from the teaser, and a lot of us thought it'd be multiplat, just nice to hear it announced. Tho part of me hates that Kojima announced it at the MS conference, the other part isn't nowhere near as shocked as with FFXIII.

Plus, now Sony has so many great exclusives losing a future one doesn't hurt like it did with DMC or FFXIII.

Well done MS.

SC: Conviction, Halo:ODST, and possibly MGS:R are the exclusives that look good.

My only piece of skepticism is Natal. After the whole Wii fiasco, I've decided not to get to caught up in the hype and am still not sold.

Now that it's over, and I talked about the games....MS sure was arrogant. Probably shouldn't say this, just annoyed me the whole show. "Our competition doesn't have the power to do this!!!" Or, "Never has a game been so immersive, you don't just sit on your couch flicking a stick. We're motion control pioneers!!!"

....Ok, last part I added a bit too. I also understand that all the big 3 do this. It's just that MS's shows are always so arrogant it's offputting IMO. The PSEye was doing full body control awhile back as was the PS2 Eye. The Wii announced motion upgrades last year. How is this revolutionary? The PSEye had an interactive pet that reacted to what you drew last year so how is that kid a new an unseen tech?

Anyway, not ranting to be anti MS. I think their show was better than last years. It just makes it painful to watch when they do that, or claim like last year that they topped the Wii sales.

The in-game footage was kind of disappointing.
It looks more like a re-skinned expansion pack than left4dead 2.
Alot of the animations are the exact same.

Not sure how I feel about the incendiary ammo, since part of L4D's charm for me is its back-to-basics approach--just you, perfectly standard firearms, and a ton of zombies in need of reminding that they're dead. But the gameplay still looks great and I'm looking forward to learning about the new setting and characters.

I wish I knew. :csad:

Other than Project Natal and the social networking BS, I felt Microsoft's presser was very good.

Pros
  • Modern Warfare 2 looked awesome. If people are still *****ing about the graphics after that gameplay footage, then they're hopeless.
  • The new Splinter Cell Conviction looks so much better than the older version Ubi was working on. I've been converted and I can't wait to get my hands on this game.
  • The Beatles: Rock Band is going to be a blast.
  • It's great that Konami is bringing back the "Metal Gear Franchise" to Xbox.
  • Crackdown 2. No explanation needed.
  • Epic's XBLA title looked fun.
  • Project Natal seems to be further out than I thought it would be.
Cons
  • Paul and Ringo acting like a couple of grade A pricks.
  • As previously mentioned, the social networking BS that no sane person cares about.
  • Spielberg's combover
  • As expected Project Natal looked more like a toy than anything else. And as feared it seems like Microsoft is taking it pretty seriously.

Hah, I loved when that happened. The speaker was like, 'Here's Epic!' and it's a game that wasn't even developed by them. It looked like a good game and all, don't get me wrong, but I just thought it was funny because I'm sure everyone was thinking 'Gears 3'

Gotta admit I'm envious of Alan Wake. I think they overhyped the graphics with all of the, "now brace yourselves, this is all in game" stuff. It looked really solid tho, and the story looked top notch.

All I want out of Sony's conference is a price drop so I can buy a PS3.
