E3 2009

So, I give...

Micrososft a C+
Sony a C-
and Nintendo a D+

I don't think Sony should have used the word Megaton as I didn't see any of those as a super-mega-awesome announcement that will set the gaming world on fire.

IMO tho Sony had the best conference of E3 (so far, Konami and Square tomorrow). Other than the chart stuff, and lingering a bit on GT for PSP, everything else was non stop content.

Despite thinking we knew all the main titles coming out, they still showed off Modracers, The last Guardian, and FFXIV. They showed off tons of good PSP titles. They kept some humor in the show. Plus all of the PS3 titles we knew about got new and better playable videos.

GOW3 and Uncharted 2 are my games of E3, they just looked phenomenal there. The Big Boss game for PSP also is up there.

The motion controller, I can take or leave. I thought the tech demo looked fun, but I'm not too much more excited for it than I was the PS Eye, I'll just have to wait for more on it. Tho at least it didn't have a pedofile esque video, or a crazy jumping lady attached to it lol.

I think Microsoft scored more points. Sony was great, but Microsoft's was better I think. Ninteno sucked in comparison to both.

So,....Microsoft: B+
Sony: B
Nintendo: C+

They are doing the Heavy Rain demo now on G4. They really should have had this at the Sony conference. I really do not understand why they did not

microsoft wins e3 for me:

microsoft: B
sony: C+
nintendo: D

Yeah, if I were them, I would have cut out the talk about how well Playstation as a brand was doing. Cut down the GT PSP segment a bit. Then cut out the beginning presentation video, and replace it with the superior, and nearly identical, video shown later on. Then put Heavy Rain in place of all of that.

Does G4 keep an archive of their videos from the event or do they just have the live streams?

I think they are keeping them on their website, so you may want to keep checking it periodically.

Okay, I have to look up the Heavy Rain thing. It's the game that will probably make me buy a PS3, after all. :)

It's also one of the games that Sony should have showed off at their conference. I hate to dwell, we got GOWIII and Trico, but I think it was a big mistake to cut that demo from the conference

Nobody, it was just one of several demos G4 is going to have. They sat down with one of the producers and talked to him while another played the demo

Oh. Weird, you'd think there'd be more of a fuss over it. Isn't it the first time we're seeing actual gameplay other than that one QTE/cutscene hybrid thing?

No, they had playable stuff on an episode of GTTV about a month ago

Ah, I missed that. Oh well, I'm going home to start looking up all the stuff I missed. :)

I think all three of them had pretty solid B to B minus shows. All of them seemed to bring their A game with some slight hiccups.

I can see the lesser score you guys give Nintendo considering the majority of you guys dislike Nintendo.

so the only things that Sony showed that i could care less about were Gran Turismo and the PSP stuff. everything else held my attention. even the hosts/presenters (normally boring and lame) were somewhat fun to watch. the audience was louder than the previous conferences and Sony showed more meat (footage) from the games they talked about often letting the footage speak for itself with little to no explanation. after they got done with the PSP portion, it was almost back to back footage and they ended it on a high note with footage from one of their most anticipated games. Kojima showed some MGS:PM footage, they showed the first gameplay footage of Assassin's Creed 2, heart-stopping Uncharted footage, a beefed up trailer for Trico, and what looked to basically be LittleBigKarting. they didn't dwell on their motion capture product and rightfully so. they even made it a point to interact more with the audience by throwing fun jabs at the press and pointing out how some things they showed actually haven't been leaked. Sony didn't bring down the house, but i definitely thought they were the most entertaining and impressive of the 3 major conferences.

My E3 report card thus far:

Sony: B+
Microsoft: B-
EA: B-
Nintendo: D
Ubisoft: F
