E3 2010

I really liked AC2 and GRAW so they satisfied me with Brotherhood and GR Future Soldier.

Ha ha the metal gear solid rising footage was great especially the watermellon.

Those were the only good parts besides the host. EA should of got that guy, would of made theirs even better.

Really hope Battlefront 3 is announced, that'll make up for Ubisoft's, Micro$oft's & probably $ony's bull s***.

The thing I liked about the old xbox was that no finger prints were left on the console (which the ps3 fixed with the slim), but it's a small price to pay.

am i the only one that thinks the 360 S (official name) is fugly? very unimaginative...it looks like someone kicked a thin trash can across the room.

Well you've been dogging MS since the day started, so ppl prob just ignored you.

I dont think its any more unimaginative than say the PS3 or Wii.

I'm just trying to figure out how I'd transfer my saves. Maybe since I work there I could transfer my saves in store?

Possible...

This E3 is off to a depressing start lol. I couldn't watch the live conference earlier so had to catch a replay on Ustream. I dunno, really don't have much to say (about the MS conference, haven't watched the Ubisoft one). Personally, I just found it dull. As much as I dislike MS's usual smug and almost arrogant approach...it's actually entertaining. Despite not having any intention of getting a 360, I still watch MS's conference because they typically make the internet melt down with a megaton each year. This year was meh, and kinda sucked my enthusiasm out a bit. It's like someone else said in this thread, E3 is kinda like gamers Christmas, and this year we got a neck tie (so far).

In fact, I ended up just skipping around the conference because it was just boring. The COD demo was soooo slow up until the helicopter part. Gears doesn't interest me, and definitely doesn't after that demo. Rising (IMO) was the highlight, the watermellon chopping was hilarious. Past that, Kinectimals, the dancing, the annoyingly high pitched lady doing the video conference, the Wii sports knock off, it was all so cringe worthy I ended up just skipping the video ahead in 2 min increments hoping I'd land on something interesting.

Even what would normally be the biggest announcement in their show was pretty muted. The Slim X-box design was leaked on the net 2 days ago. Even tho it could easily have been a photoshop, it turns out it was an accurate pic. So it wasn't even surprising. Then they topped it off with an Oprah rip off, "You're all getting new Xbox's!!!". On top of that they didn't add the rumored price cut, they just ended it with a "The same price".

I think this year Microsoft became Nintendo in their E3 conference style. The sad thing is they had no reason to have been this boring. Their sales are slipping, and they kinda needed a home run in the same way Sony needed one a few years back. They had 2 entire conferences, a new peripheral that had a lot of buzz, a new Xbox model, Gears, Halo, and a COD to show off. Yet instead they put on one show that was described as an acid trip, and another that spent half of the show reshowing what they devoted an entire conference to the night before, and the other half reshowing games everyone knew about a year ago.

Sorry, not really ranting. Typed way more than I meant to lol. I just expected a fingertap heard round the world (which in all honesty I'm glad didn't happen), or a megaton to kick off E3...and nothing. Meh.

it's my first time asking about the 360S but i'm glad to see i didn't get ignored :) i just noticed a bunch of people liking the look and few people have disliked it. as a designer myself, i'm curious as to why people think it looks so cool.

well, i'd say the Wii is pretty unimaginative also. it's essentially just a skewed box. as for the PS3, i still don't like the initial model (which i own) but at least it's a unique shape and the Slim improved on the design while maintaining it's core look. the 360S pretty much ditches the 360's original, sleek design (which i thought was pretty neat) in favor for a more angular, abstract one.

I'm thinking Nintendo will end up wowing us. Sony has a classic roster that they could hit a home run if they really wanted to but instead they'll probably focus on 3D, Killzone and Resistance games that (I'm sorry) I just don't care about.

They'll probably talk about the PSP2 as well.

But with a classic line up like Legend of Dragoon, Parasite Eve, ect we should be wow'd. I just don't think we will be.

Unless they have Kevin Butler hosting their show...which they really should.

I think the reason that Halo, Gears, and COD are so disappointing is because we've seen it all before. I mean, hell, at this point it seems like they are all MS has to offer. 360 has been nothing but the same old **** since launch and it is catching up with them, I think.

Well, I didn't like it at first, but that was going off a small grainy-ass picture. However after seeing it in good lighting and having some sense of scale, I just think it looks really slick. I'm still a bit baffled that Microsoft didn't bow to the popular Apple aesthetic. Overall I just think it looks really neat.

I hate the Slim design. There is no reason for the USB ports to be so far back and under the part that comes out. Terrible idea.

Agreed. What I've really been disappointed with is Rare. It was one of the reasons I bought a 360 since I absolutely loved Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, moreso than SM64. Yet they've been a complete dud this generation. Perfect Dark Zero was garbage. Viva Pinata is a niche game I have no interest in. Nuts & Bolts was a complete 180 from what the original Banjo-Kazooie was (not to mention the hideous new designs). It's pretty pathetic that the only things I've liked of theirs are the XBLA ports of their N64 games. Do something with Conker, make a better Perfect Dark, make a true B-K sequel.

What about Metal Gear Rising? That looked really cool.
I didn´t named MG Rising because it´s multiplaform, and Fable III because the lack of a live demo made me forget about it.
So, Microsoft had 3 big games....and it´s a tie with Ubi

hmmm, i don't see it but i'll take that. thanks for the reply :)

It's optional.

Agreed. I'll be skipping it for quite a while tho. I'm not a fan of glasses, or the prices. Especially considering mainstream consumers are only more recently starting to convert to HD TV's. However I kinda look at it in the same way as Blu-ray or the Cell processor in concerns to the PS3 adopting it. They ate the development cost last time, now when the PS4 rolls around Blu-ray and the Cell will be dirt cheap to produce meaning a $300 PS4 off the bat with some good technical specs.

3D is the same, it's just that instead of eating development costs for the PS3, it's others who are making the TV's, and Sony themselves of course were making some as well regardless of the PS3. So they just tack on a feature, it doesn't hurt current owners, and it helps early 3D adopters. So in a way it's helping the 3D ball roll without forcing it in your face.

At the same time tho, it's all most 360 owners are buying anymore. Why push quality new franchises like Alan Wake and Metro 2025 when they struggle to sell more than a few 100 thousand copies when Halo, COD, and Gears sell inbetween 5-10 million each release. I agree with you, and I do think it'll bite MS in the butt in the long run, and that they aren't looking as far ahead into the future when building an exclusive library and instead flying by the seats of their pants and jumping on whatever sells well.

With the Wii they know their core games will sell like hotcakes, and that's more than enough for Nintendo. While Sony may not sell 5-10 million per huge title like the 360 does, their base is equally spread out. Microsoft sells Halo for 10 mill and Alan Wake for 300k, and Sony sells Heavy Rain for 2 million, Killzone for 2.5 million or so, and GOW for 3-4 million. I think MS runs the risk of pulling a Nintendo without having that lasting appeal. Nintendo can resell Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Pokemon 2+ times a gen and have that as their major pulls. I don't think Microsoft can keep up with that and rely solely on Gears, Halo, and Fable +2 times a gen in the same way.

There's a rumor a new DK game is being worked on. Last year we knew nothing of Other M, SMG2 or NSMBW. We'll probably see more on Zelda Wii and Other M. If the DK game is true, we may get one more. Maybe Star Fox, Kirby, Kid Icarus, or F-Zero.

I think new hardware is a stretch.

The 3DS is Nintendo's new hardware. I'm very excited to see what it is.

I think you're right about it being what their audience wants, and that really comes down to what the 360 is. Its essentially the console of frat boys who want FPSes. Its why 360 started off so strongly, but has floundered since. I think its time for Microsoft to redefine itself. They need to figure out the future of their consoles. Do they want to keep being the console of frat boys or try to reach broader audiences ala Nintendo and Sony?

Eh...I don't think that's accurate. I would wager that the 360 has a broader array of games than the PS3 or Wii, they just focus on marketing shooters because that's what sells.

Maybe you missed the 90% of their press conference where they focused on exactly that.
